Well ladies...just a quick update.
We went for our newborn shoot - thank God he was so good so at least we'll be getting nice photos! Problem is he is so strong. He already holds his head up alone unsupported for minutes at a time and when you try to sit him on your lap, he pushes hard with his legs so that he's standing!! so she didnt manage to get all the positions she wanted as he isnt a 'floppy' baby. but anyway. very excited to get the pics
the last 24 hours of BF has been a nightmare to say the least. It went from one extreme to the other. He is screaming so much until he's red in the face and blue in the lips.
Sometimes it doesnt bother me when he performs so much and other times I just want to cry with him.
Last night I sat in his room pumping bawling my eyes out. This morning I sat and cried with DH that all Matt does is cry.
So...at the 5pm feed I made a decision while he sat there screaming and crying hysterically as I tried to "trick" him from bottle to boob. I just dont want to do this anymore. I feel the benefits of breastmilk are for a baby. but the benefits of breastfeeding are for the mom. so unfortunately I am going to be stopping my breastfeeding quest. I hate feeding times so much. (everyone in the house does). I am becoming exceptionally depressed about it. Initially I just wanted him to get breastmilk - that was the most important thing. But as time is passing, I am getting so depressed that he wont latch and I am actually starting to resent him (yes - I know that is horrible and yes I feel like a terrible mom).
So as I sat watching him screaming for over an hour and then watching how happy he was to finally be given the bottle, I just realised I am being too selfish. I have tried as hard as I can. It's just too much now.
So I will be stopping the torture to my child and just continue pumping for him so at least he still gets breast milk.
I am very sad about this decision. I am jealous of everyone who is BF successfully! I cant understand why I am the one who has to struggle so much and now give up. I am so sad I wont get that bonding experience like you all have. But I also cant keep on at it and get more and more depressed.
Another thing is that his tongue only needs to be cut in order for him to breastfeed. It may not have any affect on his speech or anything. So I also felt like I am putting him through a surgery so I can breastfeed...another selfish thing. I really wish he would just latch and feed - but I guess it's not meant to be for me
On a brighter note....He had his feed at 11pm last night and I set my alarm to feed him at 3am (apparently I must wake him...) but I slept through the alarm until 5am and he was still sleeping!!!! Lactation consultant called today to see how I am (was still certain about BF at this stage...) and she said if he sleeps at night, I must leave him. No need to wake him. So I hope we get another long stretch tonight. I was suppose to see lactation consultant on Monday but I will call her tomorrow and let her know my decision (I am sure she is going to try change my mind).
My nipples are cracked and bleeding from trying to force him to latch in his angered state - so at least I can get a bit of relief now...
sorry for the selfish post (seems the norm these days...)
Anje cant believe you are still going strong!!!!
and Lucy - she is just too precious for words
