file My elective caesar - day by day account

The nurses tried to get me to stay another day as well. I actually started crying when they said that because I so desperately wanted to go home. I badly needed sleep. Could not sleep in hospital. Apparently there are something like 200 interruptions per day.

I begged to go home.

1st Timer - you are so right.

I often use the argument of "do you think because I have a uterus and mammary glands I know how to cure a nappy rash/bake muffins/order a wedding cake/stop a baby crying in the middle of the night .... you can see how you can add pretty much anything to the end of this argument.

It helps if you scream a bit, and raise your voice pitch just that little bit, and have spit flaying out the corners of your mouth.

Lol Tivania. If it makes you feel better I've already started making noises to dh that I want a second baba. Poor man nearly had a heart attack.

Julz I LOVE that tshirt! So apt!

RM: I remember the nurse came into the room and said ok let's change the nappy and was like "um sure, how?" Dh had been doing them! I love the way ppl say to me now "oh, only moms are able or comfortable holing newborns or doing xyz" I have to point out that there's actually no switch that suddenly gets flicked in as baba leaves your womb. We're just as clueless as we were 30 minutes before baby was born!

1st Timer - thank you for this! I have been wanting this sort of info since knowing I was pregnant and you helped enormously.

Having said that, I want to run for the hills now

Yip I think I sobbed every day for the first 4 months. Alone if I could or in the shower. Not quite normal baby blues hey.

Juls - I started crying on day 3 - not little tears, but huge crocodile tears where the snot is collecting on your top lip, and you are pretty much too distraught to eat jelly.

By day 4, I was beyond hope.

They were trying to do the bath demonstration prior to leaving, just to ensure I could at the very least keep the baby clean.

The nurses are so old hat, it takes them all of 6 minutes ... 45 minutes later and I am still standing there, no where near finished. Baby is in stage one hypothermia, I am so past sobbing, everyone else has left the room, except me ... dang it was sad.

I sort of feel sorry for me now even when I think back to it. I knew I was in over my head, and knew that the minute I move out beyond those doors away from the "red nurses button" things are really going to get difficult.

lol Rm Dr A. kept me in for another day. Sure I had had a bad run but felt okay by then. He must have seen the red eyes from all the constant sobbing which I though I had hidden quite well.

10 Days in hospital would have been brilliant. The building would have been finished.
