Lol! Exactly my thoughts re the fridge/baby comparison!
I firmly believe they should send a nurse home with you for a week if it's your first baby. Part of an "all round service" medical aid's should offer standard.

1st Timer - I actually asked for the manual. I figured if I bought a fridge or a weedeater I would get some sort of paperwork, have a baby and nothing. I was a little concerned.

You know you are acting a bit "left the reservation" when your OBGYN comes to sit on the side of your bed on the day you are meant to be discharged and says: "Listen, would you like to stay another day? ... You know maybe it will be better ... it's no problem, I can arrange it with the medical aid ....why not stay another day."

You got to be pretty freaking out for your OGBYN to think it might be better to hang back on the maternity ward for another day than go home.

In retrospect, should have taken him up on his offer.

It all goes pretty pair shaped pretty quickly when you get home with the first one.

Oh good because I distinctly remember sitting in the floor in the nursery holding James and a box of tissues asking dh "WTF were we thinking?!?"

I'm still waiting for my manual. South African postal service is pretty shite...!

I think that's pretty normal to feel that way once you're home. I remember DH phoning the maternity ward that first night home because I was panicking that I thought Casandra hadn't had enough wet nappies that afternoon.

Thanks. Well I clearly think he's adorable but I'm biased. Mm dunno never actually noticed the chin (how cr@p am I!) will check dh tonight!

Yah I was definitely lucky as I know some people have had horrible experiences. In retrospect I would gave done better to leave the iPhone at home and just concentrate on baby. He lost too much weight in the hospital and when we got him home the first night I suddenly realised I was completely out of my depth!

This is wonderful that you were able to write this all down at the time 1st timer. I wish that I had been able to. Unfortunately I was far too much of a mess! And the amnesia has definitely kicked in for me. Alot of what you say sounds familiar but I actually can't remember it that clearly - could also be the drugs

Oh and James is a real cutie! Love the cleft in his chin. Does his Dad have this too?
