Thanks Gloeiwurmpie, I will go and have a look over the weekend. Did you use the Cariwell Pregnancy support band? Will I get it at babycity?

Ronel, I found it helped a lot. I was very fit when I had my first c-section (sadly I am one ball of flab right now...) and I believe that helps too. My doctor said that all his c-section patients were mobile a lot faster compared to other c-section patients from other doctors who don't prescribe the support band in the same hospital ward. I paid R150 for the support band. It was defnitely something to get used to, it feels like wearing a victorian corset the whole time but I found it helped me to focus on a good posture. Good luck with your c-section!

Thanks Gloeiwurmpie

Would you really recommend it and did it really help? I don't want to spend the money unnecessary. After my 1st c-section I couldn't get up on my own from a lying down position for the first two weeks as it was too painful. Wil the band help with this?

Hi ronel, I started wearing my support band once they removed the catheter and was allowed to get up. I wore it day and night for the first 6 weeks. It is washable.

Hi Ladies

My 2nd c-section is scheduled for the 4th of June. I was just wondering, the support band, do you start using it once you are home or in hospital directly after the c-section and also, do you sleep with it?

Thanks

Wow Shrew, I cant believe that the birth of your LG is fast approaching.

Im too lazy to read further to check if i have said this before but I bought a shower gel with a handle to hang in the shower. There is nothing worse than dropping the soap

Ok so been preparing for my 2nd c-section.

This time I know what my hospital provides (Netcare hospital so no clothes or blankets for baby at all only toiletries) I would suggest asking when you go for your free 4D scan or call them (if your hospital provides it).

Pain meds - I will be setting up reminders on my phone for each because last ime I forgot when I had taken it or not.

Probiotics helped me a lot.

If you are going to be breastfeeding, do a plan whereby you say no bottles or dummies, as a first time mom I was bullied a bit, but ha ha they dont know that this time will so be different. The nurses insisted we keep our son in the room with us, hell no first 2 nights they can bring my daughter to be breastfed then take her to the nursery. Last time they gave me a 1 hour break.

Last thing and this is more for home set up. I bought a shopping tote bag at Pick n Pay (open with one handle to carry all my essentials) In this I plan on packing the following so that no one has to run around after me looking for where I have put what (I have a big house):

Nursing pads
Water bottle
Snacks for me and something for my son too to reduce sibling rivalry apparently ;)
pain meds
breastfeeding book from La Leche League (my personal favourite)
iPod to listen to music to relax :)
Cellphone
burp cloths for baby
nappies
wetwipes
tissues
Lanolin cream

Imagine carrying all this and baba :)

I hope this helps all the first time and subsequent mamas.
