All I can say is that I managed to have an extremely positive actual surgery. I was on rescue tablets for quite a few days before hand, and I somehow just managed not to get anxious about the op (I am a very anxious person).
Maybe getting a relaxing cd and practicing good breathing techniques before hand will help keep you calm during the procedure.
The worst for me was waiting in recovery while they monitored my vitals so that I could go see my baby girl.
Jungle juice - and lots of it!
Oh and be certain where you want your drip to be, and that your veins can accommodate it.
I didnt want it in my hand as its too sore. So I heard they can put it in your arm just above your wrist. I told the anaethetist I didnt want it in my hand. But he couldnt find veins good enough in my wrist, so put it in the crease of my elbow - also called transpositional.
This was really sore, and you have to wear it for a day, and the problem is that you have to keep your arm straight for the drip to work. I almost overdosed on pethadine!
I started doing pilates this past week (baby was 9 weeks on yesterday) and although I didnt struggle with the exercise, the last 2 days I've had some pain around the wound, so still have to take it easy with too many ab exercises (this was an ab intensive class, which had I known before I would not have gone).
The first week was really rough for me as I had a stitch caught onto a nerve so I lived on the synape forte tablets - but remember they get into your milk too, so your babies will be drowsy and therefore you have to wake them up for their 3 hourly feeds, they wont necessarily wake you up while you're taking pain killers.
