Hi all,
I'm pregnant with my 3rd. I always said that one child is enough. Then suddenly a young friend of mine died tragically in a motorbike accident. She was 21 and an only child. Her mother said that her only reason for living had died, if she had more children she at least would have something to live for. That made me think. I decided to have another and after 2 miscarriages and fertility treatment, I had my son. My eldest was 13. I once again said, Ok, this is it. No more. God decided to bless me with another baby. A week before my 40th birthday, I suddenly found out that I was pregnant quite unexpectantly. I did not want to be pregnant. Not at my age. My boss, who also happens to be a friend, was in hospital at that stage, for an operation so that she can have children, as neither her, nor her husband can conceive naturally. And I had to tell her that I'm pregnant, while she was so desperate to have one baby. She cried so much the day I told her, that she went home early. I felt so guilty and did not enjoy being pregnant at all. Well, the good news is,in March she went for IVF, and she is now 7 weeks pregnant.
Like Julz said, e should appreciate what we have and be thankful for our blessings.

It is an interesting thread, and it would be nice for other moms to comment about how they came to thier decision that one/two/three is enough.

I also feel that we fiddle with our lives too much. Always trying to fix things when we should maybe just stop and enjoy what we already have.

Shame Julz. I can sort of understand what you mean. You need to be in the right frame of mind to adopt etc. I can't imagine myself loving an adopted child the way I love my own kids, but maybe a small baby would be different - if you get her / him just after birth and are 'part' of the surrogate's pregnancy. I personally would also not want the surrogate mom to be involved at all later, but then what happens when the child grows up and go look for his biological mom. Tricky situation.

RM it is devastating for these moms and I dont put myself in thier boat as I was so lucky to have my son against the odds.

I too was a reluctant mom and I put off having kids as I was so unsure. It was only when the fs said now or never that it got the ball rolling which was so scary.

Now that I have a child I can realte to you wanting more.

I have come across lots of women who don't want kids but when they do have their own it is remarkable how totally in love they are. Maybe becuase of the lack of expectation?
