file Eight Medicines you should not give your children

Still on medical stuff, may I ask whether you ladies have first aid kits? If you do what's in it? I saw a nice kit at Dischem and have been meaning to buy it. The things that scare me most are poisoning and burns, esp burns. What do you keep for this? I've heard some people recommend colgate and this doesn't sound totally right to me.

As julz says, a good mom always listens to her instincts. :)

Charlene, I think you really are amazing. If my kids get sniffles, I tend to get so sad, but you get up and go on. Really an inspiration to many of us.

Julz, I think you guys will get a fright if you see what I have in my medicine cabinet, but I must say, I dont use them all. I just like to keep a back up just in case we get those midnight scares.

Thanks you ladies made me feel better about what I did. :)

Oh gosh Charlene I wouldn't know what to do if I were in your shoes. I am grateful to God that I seem to have it easy regarding LO's health. You are strong, that's why your kids are also strong cos they see it in you. They say as woman is a rock, and you are a fine example of that.

The only antibiotics I didn't finish was those I was given cos the doc kept saying LO has one thing or the other jus because LO had a runny tummy and was puking. Something in me told me that he was guessing. He even said LO is allergic to milk, was told to take him off dairy for good but that didn't feel right. My gut told me it was something else and that it would pass. We stopped all meds, briefly went off dairy, focused on rehydrating him and figured the problem was with the type of cereal. It took me a few days of listening to my gut for LO to become better, hence those antibiotics are laying there half finished waiting for me to spring clean. Antibiotics for his earache were finished and LO was better (even though others say earaches are not cured by antibiotics, but anyway....). I believe in my instincts and they have not let me down so far, I know that the day LO has something serious my gut will lead the way to the nearest pead/hospital and I will do as I'm told. For now I'm just grateful that all I've dealt with are a few sniffles here and there, and an earache and a mild case of eczema. I thank you Almighty cos I don't know if I'd have the same strenght as Charlene.

justine: what you did was not wrong i feel, you did what you needed to do at that moment and its not like you doing it everyday, i think this is more of a situation of everyday...

julz & rakker: thank you very much for the kind words, but i dont see myself in that way at all, i break quite easily, my eldest daughter has ADD and ODD and let me tell you its very very trying. there are days when i dont like myself much.

julz: you sounds like a very very wise woman, so oneday maybe you and i can sit and have a good long chat!!!

Justinek you did the right thing. There are times when we are clueless and helpless and it is heartbreaking to see a kid in that much pain.

Asprin is really not good for kids under 12 because it can be really harmful to a small handful of children, but it helped your son.

Maybe the next time you are at the doctor ask him for a script for safe good meds to keep at home. (he may even suggest asprin B) Our paed gave me ponstan supp to keep at home because kids always get sick after hours.
