Lori - Lorelai is 8 months and healthy. i dont think it will do her hard, just needed a way to cut down on 1400ml of formula a day.

I think once you start giving water or tea its also ok to water down milk bottles?? The whole idea of not giving water or watering down milk bottles is when your baby is still small (before 6 months of age) or when they are still only on a milk diet. So if you are still worried about the electrolyte balance, stay away from the water and tea.

Claudia, James is super cute..!

Hey, so I've started trying one food a day with James since the banana episode. he not always interested, but its fun to watch him play:)

Sunday was brocolli (didnt like that too much)
Yesterday was carrots which were okay
Today I was lazy and I gave him a bit of toast with unsalted butter (what I had for lunch), which je seemed to like because although he didnt swallow he was sucking on the bread like there was no tomorrow:)

Each day its been one selection of what hubby and I have had. I will start introducing the food that we eat as a whole when he is closer to the 6 month mark!

Juanita - My daughter gets her normal 3 bottles made correctly, but she will not drink tea, juice or water just as is (i have tried straws & sippy cups). so I basically give her water with a a couple of scoops of formula so that it can still taste like formula, but that she does not get over fed on the formula side, too much formula is also bad for them. it cannot cause any harm or malnutrition as it is as good as me just giving her water.

I have to disagree with watering down babies bottle! I have never read anything good that comes of it, and all formula manufacturers warn against watering formula down, even if it is just 1 or 2 bottles. Surely you can rather give baby water or tea before a meal if you dont want her to be "full" before her supper?? Maybe your baby is having a "growth spurt" out of the ordinary, and is looking for the extra nutrients, hence the change in her eating patterns??

"However, if the formula is not diluted properly, that can cause serious problems. "Too much water upsets the electrolyte balance in the body and can cause seizures, but beyond that a child needs a certain amount of calories, as well as fat, protein and carbohydrates," he says. "Diluting the formula dilutes those nutrients as well. That's what leads to malnutrition.""
