file Feeding your baby BLW style

I will be doing BLW as much as possible. So will be on here soon. :)

One question for now G turns 4 months tomorrow. Do you think its ok to give him some hard food to play with? Like a big piece of carrot or cucumber.

Even though the pead wants us to start on solids soon I am not keen until he has lost the reflex of spitting out to him taking in and chewing. (tongue thrust reflex) And I am keen to avoid rice cereal altogether.

The book mentions that babies who are offered food (as in placed in front of them and they are free to choose what to eat and what not) naturally shy away from things that they are allergic to. Have heard many stories of babies eating something once, getting a rash and never touching that particular food again or avoiding tomatoes (as example) only to find out later in life that the child is in fact allergic.

Kristan, and Marijke, regarding apple. I find that I get migraines when I eat or drink apples - took years of eliminating foods to find it out eventually, and it is still not medically diagnosed.

I also heard, and I am not a medical expert, that apple can aggrevate psoriasis.

Could it be that the little ones know their bodies better than we think?

Sarah dislikes cereals, and it makes her constipated, maybe she knows?

Kristin, honestly I've never come across a soft apple - I'm also not a huge fan. Perhaps leave the apple for a bit later and only go for juicy fruit for now.

Charlotte, I will write a list of things that B eat over the weekend and post it Monday or so and then you can see if there is anything you can use.

I kind of started doing BLW by instinct without kowing there was a term for it. I have a very determined and independent little girl.

Was worried that she never wants to eat with a spoon, and then just week she has started picking up a spoon and putting stuff in her mouth - when we are out mostly. So even as an adult, as long as she eats with a knife and fork in restaurants, she can eat with her hands at home! LOL.

Weren't hands made before utensils?

Wether I am cleaning from her messing with hands or from her hitting a spoon away with me spoon feeding her, I see no difference. My home is far from clean some days... but it takes two ticks to wipe up anyway!

The latest is that she crawls to her plate, nose dives, and eats WITHOUT hands, just her mouth to the plate... and we dont have dogs where she can pick this up from... as long as she doesn't do this in a restaurant... LOL

A long time ago, I stopped reading up too, analysing, critising and measuring. Yesterday she hardly touched her food or milk, but it as her first birthday - I would also rather open up presents and play than waste time eating...

Saying that, we do have a routine and do follow a good eating plan, Everything in moderation. And a bit of everything over a few days.

My natural instinct is still the best advisor, that and what works at the time!

Happy weekend Moomies

PS Love hearing what Marijke and family are up to! Like everything, take the advise you want and leave the rest.

:silly:

I have tried a couple of times to give Casandra a thick slice of apple. She WILL NOT put it anywhere near her mouth. Weird because everything else goes straight in the mouth. Even the cat's bowls. I just don't get it. Maybe she doesn't like apples? Maybe I should try a pear?

I honestly don't believe that Marijke is dictating anything to anyone. If you don't believe in BLW and you feel pressured by it (or any other method on anything for that matter) then don't read the thread. Don't ruin it for others. Disagree certainly, respectfully.
