file Feeding your baby BLW style

@ Morgan, Marijke is the resident expert, but if you are liking the sound of it then get the book.(Kalahari stocks it) Its called Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley. She is a dietician in the UK that did her masters on the very subject because she noticed more and more parents having problems with regard to children eating (especially stage 2 foods). The book is very informative and thee is also a section on who its not suitable for (premies, children with cleft palates etc..)

Your child gets plenty of food from your milk - its all they need for at least six months, although some children are "ready" to start trying solids earlier. Even if they are started earlier, milk is still the most important food that you can feed for the first year - its easily digestable and contains all the right nutrients. In fact Gill noticed that the babies eating solids only started dropping there milk feeds at about 9 months - around the time that their maternal stores of essential nutrients ran out and they started requiring more from their diet:)
My LB is 5 months next week and is still exclusively breastfeeding. He weighed 3.9 at birth and is gaining weight well on just milk so I know he doesnt need anything more at this stage.

What I did with my LG when she learnt to eat (I think I was doing the whole BLW thing anyway without knowing it really) Was to buy one of those plastic disposable tablecloths and I put it under her feeding chair. It works very well actually and then you just wipe up the mess and don't have to clean your floors. Also maybe buy some of those bibs with the arms or a plastic childrens Painting apron that has sleeves.

I think that the horrible manner in which that other person on the Jan thread is talking to you is so uncalled for. I also thought this was an open forum and I would have posted there thinking I was welcome as well. As far as I can tell that is what is intended of this forum.

Hi ladies

Have read up on BLW and all the comments here.... (after fridays outburst). The more I read the more I like the idea.

My LG (3 months) is still only on formula and she doesnt seem hungry, planning on staying on formula until I have a very hungry screaming baby. When and how can I start BLW?

Lol Charlotte! Trust me eventually she will eat with a spoon and fork.

I only learnt how to eat with a knife and fork at age 8 :) and now I can do both perfectly.

As long as baby is healthy and mommy is sane, then whatever you are doing is working :)

Thanks that make me feel much better... lol
but the mess is currently making me go insane.. but i just started with this, hopefully i learn to deal with it quickly.

Please Marijke, dont stop this thread. You have helped so many of us with eating and feeding problems and giving us LOADS of advise.

I love that we eat as a family now, doesnt matter what we eat.
Kyle's favorite food is now small peices of meat and baby carrots. For the first time last night, I gave him oxtail meat and he loved it. He held the bone in his hand and nibbled on the meat all the time. I know he had enough to eat cause when I offered him a bite of my food, he would take it.

Marijke, the only problem im having is fruit. He doesnt seem keen to eat it. I want to give him peaches and strawberries and things like that but he will take one bite and spit it out. Any advise?
