file Feeding your baby BLW style

@marijke. I was taught at uni that children dont develop hand preferences till much later (about 3), but recently I was watching discovery and thye are now saying that even in womb a baby shows a preference by mouthing the dominant hand. Going on that I think James is going to be a lefty because his left hand is ALWAYS in his mouth (the whole fist and it was even like that during my scans).

Zodwa I think it depends on the sugar content of the biscuits in question. But I still only give B one biscuit/cookie a day.

I asked the same question about left and right on our month and no one really felt that they saw a clear preference to left or right. I asked because I wondered if perhaps because B is so skilled in using both that she might be ambidextrous but I think even at 1 year of age it is still too early to tell. But yes B shows no preference.

Ruru uses his left hand to eat esp when he in the feeding chair. Sometimes he'll pick things up with the right hand. I was just wondering if he cld b left handed.....
Have u ladies noticed which hand ur baby uses the most?
B is such an inspiration Marijke, cant wait to get there.
Left him with a friends daughter today for a few hours, said she mustnt feed him coz I didnt want her to overeact incase he gags or whatever. Turns out she fed him biscuits  he liked them I hear. She also gave him mango shame.
How much is too much when it comes to giving a baby things like biscuits. When he's with me, he dsnt get junk though, not yet anyway

Marilu, it depends on her mood really. Last night I made her favourite food so she was so busy eating that she forgot to mess around. She has about 2 or 3 meals that she really enjoys, but those pictures are the exception in our house!

I just want to add that at her age sleeping though has absolutely nothing to do with how much she eats because after that plate of food and a day of eating very well, she also had about 2.5 bottles during the day she still woke up 3 times. She's currently cutting a tooth (number 6) and finished another bottle during the night. As I've said before, round 8 - 9 months whether she sleeps or not had more to do with her routine than eating.

I don't think I'm a typical BLW mom..I still give Mignione pureed food sometimes if she allows it :D Mignione LOVED pureed food in the beginning and then the teething started and she refused to let a spoon near her mouth. With Marijke's tips we started giving her whole pieces of food which didn't quite worked out in the beginning seen as vraatjie M tried to shove whole pieces into her mouth and gagged and of course paranoid me was too afraid of choking. Later on she realized the can bite off pieces :)

Now she eats whole pieces of food: chicken, mince, cooked veggies, pasta and she only somtimes eats yoghurt or Purity (if she's in a good mood). It's still a struggle to get her to eat porridge in the morning cause she tries to feed herself with the spoon.

Marijke, love the pics of B eating. She eats alot hey!! How do you get her to EAT the food and not throw most of it off the plate? I better get M a plate..I just put the food on the feeding chair tray. I tried putting it in a bowl but she throws the bowl (and food) on the ground.
