Hi everyone, my name is Kerry and I'm new here. I found this site after a lot of google searching. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good doctor in Empangeni or Richards Bay that will support a vbac or at least allow me to go into labour before insisting on a caesarean. Looking forward to your replys. Take care. :cheer:

ScribblingAl, the doctor never measured my scar, I think it's just a bit of a scare tactic so take no notice!

keshiadelong, i had a vbac in Vincent Pallotti but with a private midwife which is no longer possible since they changed policy. My story is in the birth story section of moomie. I was with Dr. Searle but never saw her during delivery, only on morning rounds, a few friends are with Dr Dumbrill and swear by him.

Mowbray is the only hospital which allows vbac with private midwifes if I'm not mistaken but then you have to take the dr you get if an emergency occurs. Good luck!

The appointment with the midwife was very productive and very reassuring. She wasn't worried, she said, and she said if they gynae had been that worried he would have phoned her and scheduled a follow-up appointment - neither of which was done. So I feel like a bit of a drama queen for panicking like that. i have also enlisted the services of a wonderful doula, and I am going for a session to clear the last little mental niggles before this baby comes into this world in what I am positive will be a calm and beautiful environment. Thank you Hasie for the support and the kind words. i hope to return after the birth with a wonderful birth story - no matter how it happens.

You really can't predict what scar tissue is going to do when it is asked to stretch or contract during labour. Personally I don't think the thickness of the scar has that much to do with it. Actually to me (this is my personal view and not backed up by any research) scar tissue is not very flexible, so a thicker scar in my mind would mean even less flexibility.

Hasie, I am seeing Sue on Monday morning. She has told me not to get despondent and that we will chat about it then. Do you have any views on or experience with the whole scar thickness theory? He didn't rule out a successful VBAC - in fact he gave me a 60% chance of success (if all goes well during labour). But he did scare the bejeebers out of us. And the whole 0.29cm thing is weighing on my mind.

Scribbling, I'm sure your midwife will be able to make a call on whether she feels it is safe or not. I'm thinking of you and really hoping that all will go well and you will have a safe and positive birthing experience!!
