Hi all you ladies!!!

KARLA IS 1 TODAY!!!! I can't believe it!!! She is so cute, and wonderful with all the new little things she does!!! She still doesn't walk on her own, just little steps and then plunges into one of us or the couch... hehehe.

Karla has a little dog/teddy bear thing and a material doll (lappop) that she adores, especially the lappop, she wants it with her at all times! she sleeps with the dog though!

Karla actually picked up 400grams in 1 week, that is quite odd as she has been weighing the same for the past 2 months... now it is 9,6kgs.

You guys must have a lovely day and weekend!!

Hi all, I finally got off my bum and moved onto this thread:)

About normal ages - most of my friends have child geniuses, so I felt quite sad when James only crawled at 9 and a 1/2 months despite the fact that 10 months is "normal" for crawling. The thing about normal is that all it means is that 50% of babies will be crawling by 10 months and that leaves 50% that arent:)with the vast majority at about the centre point of 10 months (so usually between 9 and 11 months). Its only late crawling after 15 months:)
As for walking, its normal between 13 and 14 months, but some babies start as early as 9 months and about 5% of normal babies will only walk at 2 years, so dont worry about it:)
James isnt walking yet either. He cruises well and stands on his own though. Honestly I think its better to be walking a little later, because then cognitively its easier on parents. At 9 months, their language and perception is so much poorer than at 14, so imagine having to run around after that???!!! I can already see a huge difference in James understanding of cause and effect and language now compared to 2 months okay. He is saying a few words (tree, ta, mama, dada, woof woof, roar) and understands when they are appropriate (point to a pic of a lion and he goes roar). He also understands a HECK of a lot.
He sits when he wants water or food and knows that it gets taken away if he starts to crawl around or move. He tries very hard to build towers out of his blocks and fit objects into containers. He waves byebye and knows what he is allowed to touch and not (although he tries to get away with touching when he thinks I'm not looking). I cant imagine having a walking child unable to do these tasks!!!!

His birthday plans are coming along nicely, and I'm getting very excited. We have ordered a jungle gym for a present and know that he is also getting a push bike, a rocking horse and a big set of duplo:) I've otherwise asked people not to do presents as I dont want him getting a whole lot of stuff that he probably wont play with:)

Cant believe that he'll be 1 is a weeks time!!!!!!!!!!

Have put his name on waiting lists for school this week. I'm going to send him in 2014 (the year he turns 4). Hes on a few, because waiting lists are long and children already in the baby groups get first preference. The only thing I'm concerned about is that they all supply food and cooldrink, which doesnt appeal to my food senses, but hopefully by the time he is 4 I have become less label conscious:)

@Scribblingal: Thanks for words of comfort about being a working mom. I guess there is a bright side to everything cos i can afford all these things for he because of my job. (Would still love to go to Moms&Tots with her though :( ) The compromise is for me to go to her 1st one and get a feel for what it's all about then I'll be more comfortable to let her go with nanny. I'll also pop-in on Thursdays when I'm not so busy...so maybe DH can drop them & I can pick them up.

@Bronz: I now agree with you about the walking ring...I guess it was just SO convenient for us at the time. you cut put her in it and carry on with whatever you're doinf while she scoots around freely and u know she's safe in it...we've taken it completely away now though so hopefully will speed up the walking :) 14/15 months!!!??? My mom says I started walking at 10 months& my younger brother at 12 months & we both had walking rings!!! Is it possible that whilst everything now happens earlier, faster and more advanced, that babies have somehow regressed and are now starting things later??? I hope not!!!

Bronz - sorry dashing off to The Shits, AKA Wits, so I'll reply later, but about the comfort object, sleep with it or carry it around for a while so it smells like you - that should help. And give it to him every nap time so he gets used to it. It you let him play with it in the beginning he'll associate it with fun times.

Hey Ladies

Babyshoes: There are a couple of ways you can do it... Either the cry method or the gentler approach but the latter takes much longer. I have been sleep training G at the mo, well as much as I can. It has been rough as I have to sleep with him while we dont have a cot (we are sleeping on a futon), so he has been going to sleep on his own and then I join him in bed - but he feeds off me when ever he wants, but its only about once or twice a night now.

I have started weaning him off me, so I give him his bottle just after his bath and finish dressing him while he drinks then turn off the lights and sit there till he falls asleep, I would leave but he can crawl right off the futon. The other night I sat there for about an hour. Will be much better when I can walk out with him in his cot. And then I will get him off me at night. Previously he would only let me put him to bed using me as a dummy, but the other night I had a cluster headache and passed out so DH put him to sleep with no probs!!!

Elamsmom: I haven't done the walking ring. I am very against them, but thats just me. I also believe in everything in moderation. Maybe rather get her one of those push along toys? G loved his (they are all in storage now), She will get used to walking more with that with out the full support that a walking ring offers.

I also wish G would walk now. He has been crawling for about 5 months. <I might regret this when he is walking every where and I am trying to study for exams>

Shazz: I am so happy to see you over here. :) Thread is so much busier joined up. Desiree also did a tubby theme. I want to know how to train a baby to watch tv, hehe. G will not watch it, too busy. I know I sound like a bad mommy, but 30 mins to study and I would not complain.

Jacadebra: Happy to hear the first week went well and that you have found a creche for you babies. I have to start the hunt soon. I am going to take G while I write exams to try it out and see how he copes. Then will take him full time when I do my teaching prac and then hopefully will carry on when I start work.

Scribbling: I must say well done for making her cake!! I wont have time to make G's as I will be studying for exams. So I will order.

AFM: Graeme is now pointing out everything, he can identify quiet a few things in a book and real life.
He is still obsessed with tick tocks (I swore never to use baby talk but my mom taught him tick tock and he loves it so will leave this one), the only problem being he calls it a cock - but shhh dont tell any one we can say he is say clock, hehe.
Oh day time naps are down to one long one. I find this better as its for about 2 hours - as opposed to 3 15 min ones, and then he goes down much better. But he must either fall asleep in the car or on the boob.
I have also started trying to introduce a comfort object, being a soft bunny. Any ideas on how to get him to take to it rather than me?

Ok I am going to go back to the books, Have a great week ahead if I dont catch up before then. :)
