Hi ladies

Sorry I have been so busy and have not had time to log on.

I need to go back a month and read all the posts to catch up.

Congratulations to all on their beautiful blessings.

My little Zachary is 1 month and 4 days old. He is just a blessing. He only cries when he is hungry.
Im currently breastfeeding, and have my 6 weeks appointment next week. I need to enquire on going on formula. I want to breastfeed till December, want Zach to start the bottle and off the breast so that when I'm back at work in Feb all will be well.

Will go back and read all the posts now so that I'm updated.

Hi ladies!!!

How is everyone?

So Rei is here finally! CSec on Friday she was born at 1:55pm weighing 3.46KG and 49CM. I was 38w6d along.
She latched beautifully the first two feeds. I waited very long in recovery, and by the time I got there she was screaming away for milk. We managed to get a private room which was lovely we could have visitors any time and it meant I could sleep in until around 8am without anyone disturbing us.
Struggled a bit with the feeds for a couple of days but we seem to be coming right, getting to know each other too!

Day 3 was a bit stressful as the paed suspected jaundice. The tests came back clear, but I kept on wondering and second guessing if she was looking too yellow.
The tests came back negative though but she was still looking so yellow!
I found out from flowergirl that this paed is known for putting newborns under the uv lights for jaundice even before the test results come out so I'm really relieved he didnt do that!
It was rechecked again yesterday as she still seemed yellow to 'everyone', but the results were even better than the day before so she just seems to have a yellow undertone to her skin, like her mommy! (Kaylee will be jealous!)

We got home yesterday. Kaylee came with daddy to fetch us at the hospital. Was all very sweet and she is really good with Rei. Mostly goes on with her own thing but gives lots of hugs and keeps wanting to give Rei a dummy - which Rei isnt interested in whatsoever.

Today was a bit hectic as I am in a lot of pain, more so than the previous days after the csec. DH and I were not seeing eye to eye on priorities while he is off work which added to the strain. Kaylee was home when we bathed Rei, thought she would enjoy it. But with Rei crying so much during the bath it really upset her, and she even told me I was naughty. So that didnt go so well and all added to the stress. I eventually got hold of the gynae to discuss my pain. I told him the voltaren just wasnt lasting long enough and the stillpain is useless. Turns out they gave me the wrong dose of voltaren (or I am misunderstanding). The box says twice daily, to me that means every 12 hours. But apparently I can be taking it every 8 hours, that's a huge difference! So I will try that tomorrow but if it doesnt work, then he'll give me a script for something stronger than the stillpain. I really hope it works though, as I dont want meds that will make Rei sleepy!

She is feeding well. Last night she did cluster feeding though, from 5:30 - 7pm she fed 3 times. Then from 10:30pm till 12pm again 3 times, and then again from 2am - 4am. And then wanted milk again at 6am. I was pretty exhausted, but managed to then sleep until 9:30am after that. Thankfully DH got up with Kaylee and the inlaws are taking her to school this week. Hopefully tonight will go better. She sleeps through all the noise thankfully. Hope it'll stay that way. And we have one long awake time late afternoon which is when we bath her. The rest of the time she pretty much eats, sleeps and poops (sometimes 3 nappy changes with 1 feed / burp session!)

Shame poor baby has thrush. Think it might be cos of the antibiotics I was on last week. So at just 5 days old we had to get her a salf and oral medication cos she could get it on her tongue and then me on my nipples.

Anyway, I better get going. Got to find a little me time before bed, waiting for Rei to wake for her next feed within the next 30-60mins probably! (Edit to say she woke up as I finished this post lol!)

Grrrr my post just got lost too! Anyway let me try again! Robyn glad to hear baba is coming along so well. Eli had similar eating patterns till two days ago. Then he was restless, refused to settle unless in my arms and was feeding non stop, was so tiring, today tho, he seems to be sleeping again. And becoz of the non stop feeding previously, my boobs are full! Oh well we hve our one month ap tomorrow, I'm eager to see how much weight he's gained. I'm still struggling with the lack of sleep, can one ever get used to it? Joybaby, would love an update :-)

Hi ladies
Argh -I typed a whole long post last night and I just saw it didn't go thru!

Belaine-you can try the Emla patch-it is a mild anesthetic which is marketed at kids' injections. I've actually used the cream myself and it really works well -not sure about the patch, but am thinking of using it for McK (didn't use for D but I remember how I felt her pain! )

Welcome to all the babas!!!! Is that everyone now?

I've had quite a hectic week, even tho DH worked from home to help me
D was sick the whole week (post nasal drip, coughing up a lung every night, on antibiotics, even a suppository every night! )
So DH was kept busy with her while I fought off the need to go to a dr for antibiotics myself (have another bad chest infection-coughing up green gunk)
So nursing a new baby while you can hardly breathe is not easy!
Shame, DH did very well but I think he couldn't wait to go back to work this morning!

Besides being sick, I also got a hectic rash all over my body (I'm talking from my ankles, up my legs, back & stomach, on my arms and up my neck, to my cheeks & chin, even on my scalp!) Must have been the combo of the antibiotic I was on the week McK was born and the epi

But McK is such a good baby-she has a set night time routine already-feeding at 21:00, 01:30, 04:00, 08:00
She sleeps well during the day too but doesn't seem to have a set day time routine yet.
Her umbilical cord fell off on Fri and she was born 3.55kg, 51cm tall, 32cm head
BF is going pretty well-she doesn't feed as nicely during the day-doesn't empty the boobs properly so she needs a 'top up' sometimes which throws out the routine
Plus I'm having the same issue as with D-my right boob fills up faster and has more milk than my left, so it gets really hard and sore ( like right now!)
I am expressing during the day but its sometimes difficult to get the timing right so I have milk for her when she needs to feed

Of, and DH is going to Jhb on Wed & Thurs ( ) but my mom said she will come pick up D Wed morning and take her to school and pick her up for me and then her to MIL on Thurs

D is such a good big sister-helping mommy change nappies! Always wanting to hold and kiss McK -so cute!!!!
