Hi ladies
Well McK is a week old and doing very well
She sleeps a lot-3-4 hours at a time and wakes up only 3 times to feed during the night
D absolutely loves her and just wants to kiss and hug her
Unfort D is sick at the moment and I'm also not doing well (chest bad again!) so DH has had a lot to deal with this week (he worked from home)
My birth story:
Was over 40wks so DH got Thai curry for supper and gave me a foot rub on Tues night
Went to the shop on Wed morning and contractions started at 11:00 (1min every 10mins)
My water didn't break so I called the mat ward and was told to wait til either my water breaks or the contractions are closer
Called DH and told him not to rush home but it will be time soon
At 14:00 contractions were every 5mins so we got ready to go in-got to hospital about 15:00.
Pain was getting abit worse and I was only 3cm so asked for the epi to be arranged early so I wouldn't need to wait 2hours like last time!
Suddenly contractions were 2mins and excruciating so went to labour ward which was just down the passage but took a while to get there as i had to stop with each contraction. Thankfully the anesthetist was nearby and only took 10mins to arrive but it took him 4 times to do the epi as he had to stop with each contraction but eventually got it-was also a semi-ambulatory as I couldn't walk but could move my legs.
Oh, and it was my gynae's birthday and she had another patient in labour at the same time as me-what luck as she was going out for dinner and asked McK to give her at least an hour (

)
At about 20:00 it felt like my water finally broke, so when the nurse came in, she checked but got a weird look on her face and she quickly went out and came back with a senior nurse. (Of course we were quite worried as she didn't say anything but we knew something was wrong)
Eventually the senior nurse told us that the baby had discharged merconium and that it could be a sign of distress but the monitor showed the heartbeat as normal, so we must just wait.
At 20:30 I was 8cm so the nurse phoned my gynae (who was only 15mins away) and when she arrived at 21:00, I was 10cm and ready to start pushing ( she thanked McK for letting her finish dinner)
Due to the merconium, I had to stop pushing as soon as the baby's head was out so they could suction her nose and throat so she wouldn't inhale/swallow too much.
Just as her head came out and I stopped pushing I could see a look on DH's face-something wasn't right! The cord was wrapped very tight around her neck, even my gynae was abit worried, but she remained calm and managed to cut the cord quickly enough.
Due to the merconium , they had to clean out her tummy first before she could feed, so that took what felt like ages, but she eventually could feed. (It took longer cos the other patient was also in labour next door, so my gynae and the nurses were running between the 2 rooms)
