StarryEyed - I haven't had gastritis before or perhaps I have, but get IBS which I think is very similar. I agree with cutting out gluten and dairy too.
Just stay clear of any fatty fried rich spicy food, but my guess is that you are already doing that. Fruit that I can tolerate is strawberries, papaya, banana, pears and apple (no citrus!). Funny enough pineapple is also fine despite being very acidic. Nuts can be difficult to digest for some people too. Food that is bland is probably best like boiled potato and very plain simple soups and steamed veggies. Beans, peas, cabbage can cause bloating, so I generally avoid those. Tomato can also be a bit too acidic for most people.
Try and drink as much as possible water, it also helps to dilute the acid in your stomach. Don't know if a pharmacy is too far away from you, but perhaps consider getting some "rescue remedy" tablets? Stress makes it worse - I know you are having a bit of a tough time at the moment, I can only imagine you must feeling a bit stressed and overwhelmed. xx

Gloei... The doctor gave me some rennie type medicine... But no diet plan... Any suggestions? Have you had gastritis before? I have looked it up online and apparently the triggers are different for everyone. So I am trying to figure out what it is. I have stopped eating wheat and using spices on my food. meat is turning my stomach at the moment, I cannot even look at it. So the only thing left to test is dairy. I am keeping a food diary and writing down times I eat things and when the cramps start... Hopefully I will see a pattern.

23Aug2014 - First positive test of my first pregnancy (4weeks & 3 days) :)

Newbiemom - I have heard from my many ladies that the progesterone really amplifies all the symptoms especially nausea...Thinking of you!

StarryEyed - I am glad the reaction is gone but I hear you about the gastritis! Did the doctor gave you any medication or dietary plan to help you with this? The ear infection sounds annoying too. Hope you feel better soon and take care of yourself and your sticky bean! xx

Thanks ladies. I am feeling a bit more positive this morning. Gloei... It was so terrifying, I have never ever experienced anything like that before. It did make it worse that the doctor was so far away and I had to take public transport... I am so used to (when I am home) knowing that if there is a problem there are so many people within 2 mins of my house that can rush me to the hospital. but on the bright side... Baby seems to be hanging in there... One of my biggest fears was that the stress of yesterday would affect my pregnancy.

I am no longer itchy and lumo pink so I think my allergic reaction is gone. Just have to try get over this ear ache and gastritis on my own. The doc seems to think I may suffer from the gastritis for a while longer since it seems to be related to my pregnancy. So that sucks! But I am trying to stay positive and in 4 weeks time I will be packing my bags and getting ready to go home... So I am excited for that. I have taken some time off but I am going to have to go back to work tomorrow as I came here with certain goals in mind and I need to finish them.

Newbiemom, I really hope you start feeling better! I am also nauseous but I think it is fairly mild and I cannot imagine it being any worse!

StarryEyed!!

I am so sorry to hear about your ordeal!! All of this in a foreign country with now family and friends around - poor soul!
I can't imagine how scared you must have been when you had the allergic reaction?! It really is such a powerless feeling when your body goes haywire and it feels as if you can't do anything about it. I have had allergic reactions to antibiotics before (not as severe as yours) but the anxiety and fear of death was overwhelming. Not fun.

I hope you are booked off from work? Please take things easy and know you are in my thoughts and prayers!!

(Let us know how you are holding up!)

I have had such a horrific nightmare of a day and needed to moan about it for a bit so please excuse this rant.

Over the weekend, my stomach cramps got so bad that this morning I had to see a doctor. So after 30 mins of tram rides I finally get to a place where they have walk-in appointments. I waited for the doctor... Didn't take long, maybe 45 mins. Anyway, once in there I explained about being pregnant and having extreme cramps and being worried about an ectopic pregnancy. He felt my belly and decided it was gastritis probably brought on by my pregnancy. So he gave me some rennie type medicine. Since I paid 1400 Swedish crowns just to see the doctor... Which converts to R2200... I thought I would ask him to look at my ear which was hurting. He said I have an ear infection and prescribed penicillin. Now a few months ago I had the same problem and I took penicillin and it went away within a few days... So at this point I was patting myself in the back and quite pleased that soon I would be feeling better.

I head home and took the antibiotic... Within 5 minutes my hands and feet were bright red, itchy and felt like they were on fire!! So I panicked and called the clinic... They said I should come in immediately and they sounded worried... So now I have a 30 min tram ride to contemplate what is going on and quite frankly PANIC!! By the time I get onto the tram my entire body is luminous pink, burning and itchy... And my tongue is starting to swell. I was really worried! I was even more worried when the tram stops halfway there to switch out the drivers... So I had to change trams and did not know which one to take, luckily a very nice lady helped me. Anyway, I finally made it to the doctors office only to have 5 people surrounding me and talking in Swedish!! After a few minutes of arguing they shuffle me into the bathroom and instruct me to throw up the antibiotic... Like NOW! (Sorry if this is too much information). Then they lay me down in one of the rooms and make me swallow antihistamines. They explain that they cannot give me anything stronger coz of the baby and they are hoping my breathing will not be affected... Otherwise they have to give me a shot.

Anyway... So now I am fighting an allergic reaction, an ear infection and stomach issues!! This has been an awful day and all I want to do is hop on a plane home.

Please be careful when taking medicines... Before I was pregnant I was not allergic to penicillin.... Pregnancy definitely can make your body go haywire. I hope none of you ever end up in this situation, it is very scary!
