Funny story.. when my mom was pregnant with me, she said that one of her biggest cravings was oranges. She'd buy a pocket of them & just chow them down. She ate so many that it actually did become a problem & doc told her that she was taking in too much vit C..! Ideally if you're not sitting with a pocket of oranges/naartjies infront of you then its fine :)

Thanks ladies. I was really worried. I've started using panty liners.

I've never heard of the jaundice thing. Interesting...

My previous birth was an emergency c-section after painful labor pains, so this time around, I'm going straight for c-section.

StellaK, you have so much useful info to share, that's why I love this group...

Ctelly I don't think that there's anything wrong with taking it, the nurses said just to be on the safe said I should get an OK from my Doc, I called his office and he wasn't in...

StellaK I tried explaining the whole Jaundice thing to my granny & she wouldn't hear it lol you know old people

Angie, i think that might just be an old wives tale.
citrus will be the best source of vitC for the winter, you can really eat it.

Jaundice is due to the baby's liver not fully developed when born and in some cases (especially smaller babies) the tiny little liver cannot keep up with breaking down the toxins.
nothing you eat will influence this, as its only a matter of the liver developing.
well, this is what i know about it anyway.

and there is still alot of time to prepare for your baby. i think the best is to wait till after you baby shower and then you only buy what you still need.

there is alot of mixed things about the flu shot. i heard its ok/safe, but i'm a bit sceptical so won't get one

nice Ctelly, i didn't know game will also exchange.
i know baby city will exchange anything without a slip as long as the stock it and it has not been opened.

and yes, they grow extremely fast in the beginning. i will always recommend to only buy the bigger sizes if you want to stock up on nappies.
the nr 4 nappy you will use for the longest time. i would say if you want to stock up on nappies, buy size 3 and 4 (and more 4 than 3)
and people buying nappies for baby showers will buy the small ones anyway.

G was using the nr4 nappy by 3 month old already - but he was a big baby and he gained alot of weight fast.
this is the nappies i used before G started to fit in the cloth nappies:
3 packs of huggies 0, one big pack of nr1, one pack on nr2, then 1 and a half pack nr3.
from 3-12 months he used nr4 - here and there in between the cloth nappies (i use about 1 pack of nappies in 2 months)
the nr 5 nappy now at 13 months are still to big for him, but he now out-pees the nr4 nappy so i have to use the nr5 one.

hope this helps a bit.
its actually so different for each baby, so do not take my experience as the only way. if you are going to have a small baby you are going to use more of the smaller nr's, but you can rather buy as you need in stead of having a whole bunch of nappies that you need to go and exchange

Hi Ladies
Oh My Angie.. i'm eating 2 naartjies a day.. to keep healthy and ensure I don't get sick from all the sick people here at work.. should I stop ? I was also wondering about the flu shot.. did the nurse say why we are not allowed a flu shot ? (or are we allowed?)

Just a note on the diapers.. Game will exchange any pack of diapers for bigger sizes as long as the pack is sealed, you don't have to have a slip or bought it from there. so just keep this in mind before packing out all the diapers.. apparently babies grow quick in the first few weeks so new born diapers may not fit anymore.

baby on the way: March / April 2018

Kiara I'm also going through the same thing. I just use pantyliners everyday.

Wellness day at work today, the nurses said I can only have a Vitamin B shot & I'm not allowed a flu shot...

Can someone tell me if there is really a link between Jaundice and oranges/naartjies? I love them but my granny's banned me from having alot...

You ladies make me feel so disorganised. All I've bought is clothes

i also had a med free natural birth with G and had such a wonderful experience. i did the hypnobirthing course and will recommend that to anyone (its nothing funny, just practicing relaxation and breathing)
here is the link to my birth story should anyone be interested
www.moomie.co.za/78-birth-stories/242084...obirthing-experience

i had a 22 hour labour and the contractions was really bearable for me - i was pretty much halfway through my labour before i really clicked what was really going on and only when my water broke i was convinced that i'm really in labour :tmi: the last hour was very intense but not that painful. it was more that the contraction are just so close together that you don't really get a chance just to take a breath and relax in between

i will again have a med free birth and i am really looking forward to it, especially that i know the 2nd one will not be so long

Kel16, this is more or less the nappies you will change: and its the same for disposables and cloth.
1-2 months - 10-12 nappies a day
3-6 months- 8-10 nappies a day
6months and older - 6-8 nappies a day
this is not taking into account teething times (were you can double the amount) or those nappies you change and they immediately poop in the clean nappy, etc

Kiara, all you can do is get panty liners.
welcome to the joys of the 3rd trimester.
i'm using panty liners for a few weeks already. and also mentally prepare yourself that the discharge might get more as you get closer to the end.

and you might also experience that your breast will start leaking milk as well, so you might need some breast pads even before your birth
