@Vendah

I see! Then it's a bit of a catch-22. You're in your mother's house, so you can't exactly be rude. You've gone home to be taught how to take care of the baby, so you can't complain when she's showing you her way of doing things.

*sigh* I honestly don't know what to do. I don't think I'd stay there for that long, it's still 6 long weeks. Maybe I'm just too stubborn or whatever, but I still think I'd do things my way and not allow her to take over completely. Advice is always appreciated, but jeez, there has to be a line somewhere.

Hi Vendah,

I think it's time to say something to your mom, but be careful how you do it otherwise she'll be hurt. As far as my understanding goes, in your culture it's very normal for the grandmother (and other family members) to be very involved in the new baby's life, so your mom probably doesn't think that she's doing anything wrong.

But you're obviously a modern girl, and in my opinion, a granny is supposed to help with the household-stuff so that the mom can take care of the baby. Is there a subtle way that you can ask your mom for some space? Otherwise it may eventually lead to a big argument.

Your mom sounds like she's trying to help, but any decisions regarding the baby should be left up to you! When your mom does something that you don't like, how about trying to say something like :"thanks mom, but I would prefer to....".

And at the end of it all, don't let her bully you. You should always have respect for your mom, but right now the relationship with your child is more important. If you tried to speak to her nicely and she's still offended, then so be it. Time is precious and babies grow up fast, don't lose out on this special time.

ps: when is your mom going home? If it's anytime soon then you can probably just suck it up and try to deal with it.

Hi ladies

Just wanna vent, eish guys I think my mom is really overwhelming I can't take it anymore she really doesn't give me space to breath, she always wants to take the baby from me. As I type she took her after I finished feeding her ( before I even bibbed her) and put her on her side of the bed ( so it's me, her in the middle then the baby next to her). I love spending time with the bby at night especially after feeds bt she never gives me a chance. Also She insists on giving her water nd the baby is breast feeding perfectly nd I was told not to give her anything bt breastmilk. Eish I am frastrated

Hope u r all good

Hi Mommy4,

How long does she sleep during the day? Don't let her sleep for more than 3 hours at a time, wake her up to feed her. Otherwise she will be more hungry during the night, to make up for the feeds that she missed in the day.

I'm also battling to sleep during the day, my little boy's longest nap is from sometime between 9am-10am, he then sleeps for about 3 hours. But I can't go to bed and fall asleep at 9am, no matter how tired I am! I'm at my most tired around 3-5pm every day, but then my daughter is home from nursery school and no chance for a nap then :cry:

If you want to start with formula, they recommend that you start with an ordinary whey-dominant milk. Forget all the special types and soya milk, unless your baby has a specific problem or allergies. The 2 starter types are Nan and S26 (not S26 Gold, just the normal one). They both have roughly the same composition, some moms say that Nan gives their babies cramps, and others say that S26 is too rich and makes the baby constipated. You'll have to try and see what works for you, but keep the baby on the same formula for at least 5 days before changing to another type otherwise she'll get an upset tummy with bad cramps. Most hospitals use Nan, check with your hospital but I'm sure it will be Nan.

Hey mommies long time. Just a quick correction my baby was born on the 23rd not 22nd Die and she was 2,7kg her name is Bunono (meaning handle with care)Phawoluhle(meaning good mark) she's got 2 names.

She's a darling during the day she sleeps and I even forget she exists, but at night a total different story :( she can keep me up for hours and they always say I must sleep during the day when she's sleeping, but I can't even if I do it will be for a short while. Unfortunately my phone can't download a picture.

I'm currently breastfeeding, but I need to know the good formula milk and I didn't ask from hospital which milk were they using coz my baby was feeding well on it. So I don't know whether I must go back and ask from them #sighs#
