Hi Berry

Sorry for late reply... For some reason I don't get notifications anymore and Tapatalk is not working....

Wrt the weight loss, is it any better? This is just what my pediatrician told me, he said to feed on one side until baby de-latches the put him on the other side. He said as he feeds longer on one side the milk gets creamier and richer and when it's to rich he will stop. Then start on the other side. The fore milk is not nutritious enough. It's more for thirst and liquid hydration...

My so drinks 125ml of breastmilk a feed. And 120ml of the formula at night. I was once getting 90ml of breastmiLk at a time. But keep pumping it will come.i was also very impatient when expressing, when the milk stopped coming out I would change sides. I recently just left it for a few mins longer and then suddenly a second phase of milk came out. Maybe try that?

Congratulations on your official marriage!!! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness...

I have made peace with giving him formula once a day. He struggles with burping. It's not easy like breastmilk. Sometimes his tummy aches cos he fusses and wriggles. I'm giving him 1 more week on it and I'll see if it settles and if it doesn't perhaps I will change to another formula...
He sometimes sleeps thro the night or he wakes at 2:30 for feed which is breastmilk...
I give him his last feed around 10ish and it's bedtime but I want to start making bedtime earlier... But if I do that I am sure he will def wake for night feed...

One thing for sure is, formula poo is soooooooo diff to breastmilk!!!! It's super smelly  lol

Hi Ladies,

It's been awhile! How are you all doing?

TCS84 - I have a very sore left boob. It started yesterday. I think I might have blocked ducts. I also think the nipple shield is causing issues for us.

My little girl weighed 3.8kgs at her pead visit 2 weeks ago. Meaning she lost 200g since birth. I was demand feeding - every hour to hour and a half. The Paed was not worried. Said I must only feed every 3 hours and only 10min a side. Then give water in between feeds. Apparently she was only getting the fore milk which is watery and not the fatty and nutritious hind milk. Since then I have been feeding her every 2.5hours for 15min a side. Not giving water cause I didn't want to spoil her appetite or give her a bottle.
I weighed her this morning and she is now down to 3.6kgs! Lost another 200g :(
So the weight loss together with the blocked ducts have made me wonder if she is not emptying the boob properly due to falling asleep while feeding and also the shield possibly causing issues.

I have now decided to pump and then bottle feed and feed her on the breast twice a day and pump thereafter. I want to see if that will make a difference.

Mommies who are bottle feeding - how much milk does your baby drink at a time? I could only express 70ml earlier and she drank all of it.

DieSwartKat: You asked how things were going with big brother. Well he now loves his little sister. Kisses her feet and hugs her all day. Very sweet! I do struggle to make alone time for him. When baby sleeps I have tons to do. How are you guys doing?

Ayla has been sleeping from around 9 or 10pm to 5am every night for a couple of weeks now. During the day she cat naps in between feeds. Sometimes she will have a 2 hour continued sleep. I wonder if not feeding during the night is also contributing to the weight loss? I just don't understand the weight loss as she even has 5 or 6 poo nappies every day which I thought was a very good sign.

I really didn't want to give her a bottle ever so am feeling so down today :( In the end it's whatever is best for my baby and so on, but I can't help but feel like this is the beginning of the end of breastfeeding for us :(

Some good news on my side - My partner and I finally got married after 10 years of dating. We decided to just get registered with a private Marriage officer. Didn't want a wedding or too make a big deal out of it. Felt like we were husband and wife for a couple of years already- just wanted to make it official especially for the kids :)

Also he's has just woken up after 45mins to feed again?? Is that even normal after formula. I thought it's meant to be more filling .::

Hi ladies.

Betti thank you for the advice. Went to the doc. Thankfully It was ok. I think the extra feeding and expressing helped.. But gosh was it bad!
So ladies I am feeling a little upset. I express milk for A bed time feed so he has a full tummy and goes to bed. On Sunday we have his christening coming up and then a wedding. Will be a full day and I normally take expressed milk when I do go out but I won't have enough for an entire day out... So I bought formula in the week and was contemplating giving it to him.. The other reason is also on Saturday last week he went for immunizations and he weighed in at 4kg which is slightly less than it should be. We go back in a month to check weight again. Doc said to continue breastfeeding and he will assess in 4 weeks.
So anyway I decided to try the formula tonight as his bedtime feed. I gave him 120ml now. Ladies I feel really upset to the point that I cried. I feel like I'm failing him but formula feeding. (No disrespect to mums that do) but I don't know why I feel so so bad that I'm doing this... :( I know it sounds so stupid but can't help feel this way.
He drank his 120ml and I'm hoping all is well with no constipation etc. Hubby said if I feel like this I should just stop it. But I feel like I have already tarnished his body!!! Why am I being so dumb??
HELP!!

TCS84...If you haven't yet, make sure you get to the doctor TODAY!!!
When Charl was 3 weeks old I got mastitis. I went to the doctor when it was about 5 days along and he put me on antibiotics. When I'd finished the antibiotics it took 4 days for it to start up again. Waited a few days to see if massage and all that would help...it didn't, so I called the doctor and got more antibiotics...but it didn't help and it became an abscess. TRUST ME...YOU DO NOT WANT THAT. I had to be operated on to drain it and the recovery is one of the most painful things I've ever had to endure.

GO TO THE DOCTOR, TODAY!!!
