Hi,
The vaccines will come from your medical savings, ours is also covered. But on the private schedule each vaccine is close to a R1000 or more. One vaccine is R1800 (think it's the measles one, not sure). So the vaccines will deplete your medical savings pretty quickly! On the government schedule you pay only for the clinic (pharmacy) fee, which varies. On this side the first injection is R1300 private but R75 on government schedule. Since the two injections are the same, I rather want to keep our medical savings for doctors and specialists that we may need in the future.
I'm using Nan, S26 is pretty much the same, both are starter formulas. I decided on Nan because that's the same that the hospital was using.
Many people use soy milk, my best friend's baby was on Isomil from the start and she was very happy with it. Soy milk is usually only recommended for babies with lactose intolerance, you'll know your baby is lactose intolerant if his poo is green (like grass green). If your baby is breastfeeding well he is not lactose intolerant, because there is lactose in breastmilk too. Personally I would just start with Nan or S26 (not S26 Gold, just the normal one), because he's been breastfed so far and the other formulas may make him constipated.
Dehan was 2.88kg at discharge, so that's 2kg in 6 weeks! He doesn't look fat though. Will see what happens this month, I weigh him every week.
