Jip, it is above average

Larissa weighed in @ 781g at her 26 week scan, but dr very happy. She's just smaller... Will definitely be a change from a nearly 4kg baby!

My boy weighed +- 800g at the 24 week scan. I will ask the doctor again this Friday at my 28 week scan.

But I just looked at a few examples and 800g for 24 weeks seems above average.

Zandri, what was baby's weight @ last scan?

At your next appointment ask your dr to show you your fetal growth chart.
This will show you exactly where your baby's growth is in relation to the average. They work on an average of more or less 3.2kg for a full term baby - that's the weight for baby they use as well for the 15 - 16kg pregnancy weight gain.

My first girl was always measuring 2 weeks ahead in all her scans, and she was born @ 3.74kg.

As big as she was, DH had to go to woolies to get some newborn as she was drowning in 0-3 months. A week later the newborn was history!

This one is on "schedule" but below the average line. So she will be petite relating to her big sister. I got 2 smaller newborn outfits just for incase.

As for the nappies, i wouldnt worry about it too much. you can go to any Baby City and exchange without a slip. so if you have too many of one size you can just go and swop it for whatever size you need. same with the brand, if you feel like you rather prefer Pampers and bought a whole lot of Huggies, they will be more than happy to swop it for you. This only applies to Pampers and Huggies, unfortunately not to Cuddlers or any of those other brands.

The clothing can get a bit tricky on the other hand, but nothing to stress about!! Leandi was only 2.6kg when she was born so she needed tiny baby clothing when she left the hospital as even the newborn clothing were way too big for her. (my mom had to go buy and wash some clothes as i only had 1 tiny baby outfit) she only wore the tiny baby for about 2 weeks, then started to fit into the newborn. and about 2 weeks later she fitted into her 0-3 month clothing. i would say that if you have about 6-8 newborn outfits you should be good. you dress baby twice a day so whenever you run out, its quick to handwash some babygrows or outfits.

My dr has already told me that this lg will also be tiny like her sister so i got some tiny baby just to be prepared.

Cant really give any input on if you're baby is 3.5kg+ maybe some of the other mommies can help?

@pillpusher - thanx I will definitely start buying bigger sizes as well, as for the nappies I have bought huggies newborn with the umbilicle cord cut out (they seem nicer than the pampers newborn) and I have bought pampers premium care no 1.

I am not really sure which is better and have decided to try both brand in the beginning and use the ones that are best suited to my baby. We also decided to rather put all the money in our babies savings account and buy nappies after the birth instead of buying wrongs ones now or to much of one size.

@Zandri - don't fret! I'm that little bit further along. And DH did most of the work. I've hardly bought anything (aside from basic nursery set up items) because I was waiting until after my shower to see what I would need.

As far as clothing sizes, I think I've got a nice range of sizes. It's often said not to buy too much in the newborn size, but don't underestimate how much you'll need. But that's just from what I've heard, not actual experience so I'll leave that to STMs to weigh in on more.

Also for STMs, I'm looking at nappies and wondering about sizes. I've already bought some Huggies Gold size 3s and 4s (from the Takealot sale). From what I've read, Huggies (specifically the Gold, although those are only from size 3 anyway) seem to be the preferred brand by lots of mommies. I've got newborn (my first nappy) nappies, then I see there's size 1 (2.5-5kg) and size 2 (3-6kg). How many of these packs do you think I'll need? Like with the clothing, every baby is different, but I'm worried about buying the size 1s at this point if El ends up being over 3kg at birth (then she can go straight onto size 2 after the new baby size, right?). Thoughts? Nappies are one of the things I really need to stock up on still, I was only given one small pack at my shower. And I have no idea what to expect from my colleagues (it doesn't sound like they've started planning anything for me and it's 4 weeks until my last day), except for more clothes!

@zandriT you don't need much of newborn clothes, they outgrow them very quick
