Hi Mommies!
You can most certainly "switch" their cycles back if it's out of sync...
They say you should start by making sure day = light and night = dark. So during the day, don't draw the curtains close to make the room dark. Introduce suitable "playtime" routine for day time. Baby needs to associate light with play and being awake.
At night, start with night routine: Bath baby, after bathtime do soothing baby massage, keep room dark with minimum light, play soothing music (I love my BabySense Sleep/Lullaby cd!) and whatever you do - do not PLAY!!! Make night time as calming and "boring" as possible...
And don't mix day & night time routine.
Elmarise cycles got switched at 2 weeks when DH went back to work. He would've come back home @ 6pm and then he would spend a full hour or more wanting to "play" with Elmarise & catchup on time with her that he missed during the day... So by the time I bathed her and soothed her, it all went out the door when Eban got home. So she started associating night with playtime...
It took much explaining to DH and to actually show him from various books that we had to set a routine. So we limited his "boring playtime" to an hour after work, then he bathed her and would give her an expressed bottle for feeding. That way he felt like he was spending some quality time with her.
It sounds stupid, but it's tiny things that can switch a baby's cycle...
I actually want to know from you new moms: did baby's awake time in the womb correspond with his/her awake time outside the womb? Cause so far (from 26 weeks) Larissa's womb awake time is quite managable... She'll be awake @ 9pm, 1am and then again at 6am... So that would be fantastic if I can get that hours after birth!!!! But I'm guessing it's wishfull thinking...
Lauz, did you manage to track down that Nuby nipple gel/balm? I've added a photo of it. I only saw now it's also Vanilla Milk flavoured... hmmm!
Aden - Good luck with your Grade R concert this week!!!! Take it easy momma!
Kimmy, with the winds & cramps, you should also try using the Probiflora pead powder sachets. It is amazing and you just put one sachet into a bottle feeding for baby a day. It's also tastes like vanilla and is quite sweet - like cremora. The drops are horrible in my opinion and 1/3 gets wasted anyway...
Have a great day mommies!!!
I'm prepping for photoshoot this afternoon - SO EXCITED!!!!
