About the placenta... this WAS actually something I was considering... But not to grill the thing and eat it! They actually have a service nowadays where you can send them your placenta to have it "capsulised"... they make the placenta into a powder and then put it in capsules for you.

The benefits of taking the placenta is amazing - especially for PND and breastfeeding.

Only thing is - the only company that does this in SA is based in Natal. So above the R3k charge, you still need to special delivery the placenta to them. And I think depending on the size and quality of your placenta, you only get between 600-1000 capsules.

Then off course there's the "fear" that it's not your placenta, or it's just placebo's etc...

So we decided against it.

With Elmarise I never got to see my placenta, as they immediately sent it for analysis. My placenta had already started calcifying and it's routine to then send it to the lab to figure out why, especially as El was born @ 37 weeks.

With Larissa, I would just like to see this wonderful new organ I grew that basically was my little girl's life support in utero! Have you ever seen photos of the placenta? It's amazing!!! The veins on it almost resemble the branches of "the tree of life"...

But yeah - I would just like to see it...and maybe poke it!

On the J&J topic - I'm a huge fan of J&J and love the smell!!! But we were advised on numerous occasions with Elmarise, that even the top to toe wash, is to harsh for a newborn skin. We were advised to rather use the Elizabeth Anne's Purity Special Baby Wash. It's mild and very delicate in their newborn skin. Baby's skkn is only fully developed @ 1 year... I also heard that the Top to Toe can cause cradle cap with newborns?
But yes, we're stocked up on the Special Baby Wash.

Babyshower day!!!! Yay! So 2 more people conveniently "had to cancel" yesterday... funny how it's always the same people though?! The same person who also cancelled 2 hours before our wedding! Hubby gets annoyed with me that I still waste time on her, but I think now I finally realised it for myself... She can go to hell!

Well I better get the quiche in the oven, otherwise my guests won't have a brunch to sit down to :-P

To all the ladies having their baby showers hope you have an absolute blast. Yesterday I was surprised by the ladies at work with a baby shower and here I thought I wasn't going to have anything. Got so many clothes and blankets, which I'm really grateful for, need to unpack it all today and see again what I got coz I really was in shock and didn't expect anything!

My place is going to be drowning in presents as it was my LG's birthday yesterday and her party is tomorrow so there comes even more presents!

PP so sorry about hubby that's not what you need, especially not now!

@Zandri - sterkte! I'm sure it will all be ok. I was thinking it might be preeclampsia, but you were at least seeing your doctor. Take it easy, at least it's being monitored.

@Lauz - yes, there is talk about the J&J products containing carcinogens, but it's not worth the worry. Aside from the fact that they have re formulated their range, the concern was about one of the ingredients forming formaldehyde as a byproduct and the concentration was negligible. I honestly wouldn't be overly concerned, most of these things are smear campaigns. As you said, do your own research and decide for yourself what you think is best, but ALWAYS take posts about that sort of thing with a huge pinch of salt! Especially if it originates in America 'cause they make a fuss about the most pathetic things.

AFM, busy day! Thankfully got fast tracked at SARS... Unfortunately owe them even more than last year And sounds like FIL is trying to guilt DH into apologizing (as predicted). Haven't heard all the details yet, but my poor husband ended up with a stress migraine

I remember with L when i was admitted due to premature labour they also gave her steroids for her lungs. Im glad your dr is taking extra precautions to keep you both safe!! Holding thumbs baby can stay in his little jacuzzi until your due date.

I agree with Lauz on the placenta, the hospital can chuck it, I really don't have any attachment to it what so ever!!!

Well that's a perfect weight Zandri, I believe with a friend the gynae gave her lg a shot of cortisone at 34 weeks to help improve the lungs to develop incase of early labour or emergency csection so at least if he does come early his lungs will be functioning without any problems!

As for the high blood pressure wow that is high, glad it has come down and is sitting at a nice rate. Just take things easy! Thinking of you

Zandri, thinking of you. How big did baby measure? I agree with Lauz, if it is pre-eclampsia then best they monitor it and keep an eye on you. And you know you are in good hands.
