Oh Girls please don't get me wrong with the bottles, we will do what ever we have to to avoid bottles, I just know that my sister had to use bottles as she had major issues with breastfeeding both her boys, I remember being in hospital with her and she was crying about it... my other sister had no issue what so ever. I am just packing it as a last resort. In our prenatal class they also said they will use the spoon or little cup like method and will only go to formula in the extreme case.

I just finished packing the last goodies and added the breastfeeding pillow to my stuff standing at the front door. Even put the little neck support pillow that I received at my baby shower in the car chair so that it won't get forgotten. At the moment all baba's clothes are spread out on the guest bed, I will only be receiving my compactum in 2 weeks... :pinch: this is what happens if you are indecisive and keep thinking that another one cheaper will pop up somewhere... so I just said to hubby I am making the call now and doubt that we will find a cheaper one... it is a 4 drawer sleigh compactum, mahogany, it is brand new and for only R2000. I shopped and shopped and could find 2nd hand ones, but either white or only a couple bucks cheaper than a brand new one. So now we are just waiting for it.

Oh my word.... I just had the worst pain EVER.... like a really really intense menstrual type pain, so bad that I felt I had to just move so I went for a wee....... now it is gone, it lasted for about a minute... It actually made me after the loo go and check that my phone, handbag and car keys are all together.... Girls I don't think this little one is going to wait for Oct! :pinch: :woohoo:

Clueless i was on the Jan2010 forum :)

my lg got serious nipple confusion at 3 months old when we started to give her expressed milk out of a bottle. EVERY SINGLE FEED was a nightmare, be it breast or bottle. long after i stopped breastfeeding i read somewhere that some babies are just more sensitive than others and that when you want to bf and bottle feed, its best to get someone else to give them the bottle and let the baby only get breastfed by you. this will help her to understand that she only gets boobie from mommy and whoever else feeds her will give her the bottle. the problem comes in when mommy gives her bottle ...

in my mind this kinda makes sense ;)

@Lauz - I heard about the BCG shortage, but my antenatal class midwife let us know that it was back in stock at the end of August. Apparently at one of the hospitals they were giving them out to all, but then another one was starting with all the babies that had been discharged without it. The state has stock, but it's specifically reserved for state patients where there are definite TB contacts. At least you won't have the problem that I have where the stupid EC department of Health has decided to no longer supply state stock to private clinics :headbang: Some BS reason, it's the only province that's done this! So I'll have to see what happens with BCG and take it from there. Fortunately with having worked in the system and with my mom being a retired state pharmacist, I MIGHT be able to organise to go in and out at one of the clinics for her shots, but I'd be super hesitant to go to a state clinic if she hasn't received her BCG. I won't have sufficient funds on my medical aid to pay for them privately.

Juanita, I was mostly on November / December 2012 Babies, as my LF was due early November. But she ended up being an October baby (22 Oct) due to the c-sect. Which forum were you on?

I agree with the vaseline (for merconium) as well as the breastfeeding advice! My LG was born at 2.8kg and lost quite a bit of weight in hospital (hubby says she lost approx 1kg  but I think he remembers wrong), but the nurses never even tried to pressure me into formula, as I did have colostrum and she seemed satisfied after every feed, little as it was. I have heard of the cup feeding method, with my Medela Swing they actually supplied a little cup specifically for that purpose. I miss my Medela, I gave it away after I stopped breastfeeding, as we were not planning on having another baby

My LG never got nipple confusion, I started expressing and bottle feeding quite early (about 2 weeks) so that hubby could be involved in feeding, and she never developed any issues. She also switched very easily to having mostly bottle feeds after I went back to work, and then afterward when I weaned her from the breast and went onto formula around 6 months. I know some women who also breastfed exclusively, who had problems with baby taking a bottle, but I think we were just lucky and my LG wasnt very fussy as long as she got her milk one way or another. She never took a dummy though, no matter what we tried, which made for a nightmare in the first couple of months when she had colic.

Good morning Ladies,

So before I could even phone Dischem I got the call to go collect my bag today. So excited!

As for what to pack I found the list I worked off with my first LG over the weekend will see if there is anything missed, one thing I know of that isn't on the list is wecisan powder for the cord, just works so much better than surgical spirits so I'll be sure to take both.

Also I remember being in a room that only had a shower, when having natural birth you meant to have sitz baths think I might just take my bowl and salt with this time instead of walking to another room to do it in. Also what if all the rooms are taken wouldn't want to invade on someone else's space!

Regarding breastfeeding etc, with my LG she was fed a bottle of Nan without my knoweledge it was about 2 hours after giving birth and because I was out cold they gave it to her. How I don't know but I will definitely be taking my own bottles and formula just in case!

Have you guys heard of the shortage of the BCG vaccination that our little ones are meant to get?

I'll be asking the sister on Saturday about it when I go for my antenatal class.
