Juanita, so sorry to hear about your friends That's a really tough situation to be in, especially while you're pregnant and don't need extra drama and politics between friends. Your baby room is SO exciting! We have to start soon, going to look at curtains and baby quilts tomorrow before I make up my mind on the color scheme.

Kimmy, regarding breastfeeding, with my LG I bought a tiny little tube of Lansinoh nipple ointment. Its really expensive but I applied it as of a couple days before c-sect and thereafter just before and after a feed. I never got cracked or bleeding nipples, so it may have been the reason. Breastfeeding was quite sore in the beginning, but just because my nipples were sensitive, not due to bleeding. Also, I never leaked, and have not started leaking in this pregnancy (yet) and I breastfed previously for 6 months with my LG. Hope it goes well again, but just to agree, NOT leaking doesnt mean you will have issues.

Zandri, I totally agree with you, having a house full of guests (because that is what they will be) is NOT going to be fun, and this time, I'm simply not having it. I have asked both sets of parents to respect our privacy until hubby goes back to work (he's hoping to take 2 weeks leave) so that we as a family can get into a routine and bond with baby. So far they have been supportive of this, and since I'm not favoring my own parents over his, there's no reason for them to fight. I said that they can all come and stay at the house while I'm in hospital, and see the baby during visiting hours and help out with my LG1. This will give them three days in which to visit and see baby, and I'm relying on the nice nurses at the hospital to throw them out if they overstay their welcome during visiting hours But when I come home from hospital, me and hubby and LG1 need our space and privacy please. My mom will possibly come visit after two weeks, to "help" (I'm already dreading this) and I will see how I'm going to dodge that bullet still...

Pillpusher, with my LG I used normal detergent, but the special hypoallergenic StaySoft softner. This time I'm just going to use vinegar instead of a softner. It is much better for their skin, especially if they are sensitive, and it gets rid of any residue from the detergent that may cause irritation as well.

I'm also suffering from little sleep. Getting up 4 times a night to go pee. And since we have a whole zoo sleeping in the room with us (1 cat and 2 dogs) it goes like this:

1) Wake hubby and let him know to hold the cat cause I'm about to get up (cat sleeps next to me and if I get up, so does she and then the one dog chases her)
2) Get up and fall over other dog (the one that doesn't normally chase the cat)
3) Go pee
4) Catch cat and stop her from drinking out of the toilet
5) Put cat back with hubby. Tell him to hold her.
6) Stop one or both dogs from drinking out of the toilet and send them back to their respective beds.
7) Reinforce the respective beds order
8) Get back into bed and try to get back to sleep
9) Repeat an hour later

Also, my LG is just potty trained and still calls us at night to go and help when she needs to go. The cat whom the dogs REALLY dont like sleeps with her in her room, so when she calls us, it is a whole different dance to keep everyone safe and happy.

Exhausted. Really exhausted!

@Stelliesmama - also feeling like a zombie! Even when I get an ok amount of sleep, the last two days my eyes have felt sore and burny like they're dried out from being open too long! My legs are also cramping, fatigue type cramps. It's hard to explain, but it's the kind of body pains I get when I'm tired.

@Zandri - good luck! I know my parents waited to visit when my nephew was born. My mom didn't want to overwhelm my SIL. But she also made sure that she did what she could to make things easier when they visited. We've told family that we don't want ANY visitors for the first 3 home days, UNLESS we call and ask them to come. Just so we have a chance to settle ourselves. And it's ok to cry if you need to!

Another one for STMs, a thought occurred to me last night and wanted to ask. Your opinions on baby specific laundry detergent? I was thinking about the need to wash all of El's spoils and then suddenly wondered if I should wait until I buy some special detergent or just go ahead and use what I have. I always buy either Skip or Omo ultra liquid which is supposed to be gentle on fabrics anyway.

@Juanita - Love that your baby room is under construction. Wish I could at least re paint ours but we technically do not have a baby room. We have two spare rooms in our house which both have double beds for when the family comes for the birth. So due to limited space we can't really change one of the room into a baby room yet I am really dreading a house full of people when I come home from the hospital after the birth.

I've had so many fights with my husband about this and my opinion was that only my mother should stay with us alone to help me trough the first week or so be he feels that his mother and father have the same right to stay with us too, he doesn't understand that a house full of people will be extremely overwhelming not to mention that I am a first time mom and having all the parents in one house is a huge effort on my part because I have to cook and entertain and clean OH and I will be recovering from a c-section

I am really not looking forward to the week after birth - Horrible because I can't wait to see my beautiful baby boy.

Sorry perhaps it is all the hormones but I just feel like crying

Hi ladies

Thank you all for your advice on the medial aid - I have finally managed to sort all of them out - do not upset a pregnant woman! I got all the procedure codes from the different specialists and ensured that everything is covered by my hospital benefit, there is no co-payment for the birth. Thank goodness!

@Juanita - I am so sorry to hear about your baby shower. Something like that would really upset me. It's YOUR day, people should put their issues aside! My MIL and friends clashed a lot at my Kitchen Tea earlier this year, so I spent the first 2 hours consoling everyone at my own party. So my DH and I have arranged our own Co-ed baby shower. We're having a spit braai and the entrance fee is nappies - hahaha. I have created a registry at Baby Group and Baby City if any of our guests feel generous.

Leaky nipple ... mine started at 26 weeks My gynae says it's normal but I must not stimulate it for obvious reasons. It's not bad - can just see it in the cracks of my nipple.

The insomnia has kicked in the last 2 nights. I have been up from 1:30am. I definitely jinxed it as I bragged about how wonderfully I am sleeping over the weekend to my friend. And BAM - now I am a zombie at work.

I am feeling sooooo pregnant at the moment. I feel huge and I still have 11 weeks or more to go. I waddle, grunt and groan - like a real old woman. It feels like the moment I hit the 3rd trimester I got all those symptoms.

I suffered terribly from heartburn (even before my pregnancy) so it only aggravated it. My doctor however prescribed something for it (will let you ladies know tomorrow). She took it herself through both her pregnancies, so perfectly safe. It's one capsule a day - BUT if I take it before breakfast I only need to take it every 3rd day and I have absolutely NO heartburn whatsoever. Been such a lifesaver.

@PP Good to hear you could exchange your nappies and could get the sterilizer you wanted!! Always nice when you can put a voucher to good use!

AFM still feeling a bit sad about everything that happened yesterday. losing a close friend is never easy but i do know that some people have to leave our lives in order for us to grow. Doesnt make it easier though.
My MIL saying now that i should have the babyshower at my house on the plot. i love her enthusiasm but there is just NO FREAKING WAY!!!! Having loads of people that i have to entertain is really not my way of a nice relaxing weekend.
And lets be honest, we have so little weekends left before our little bundles come....

@Kimmy, your not the only one with insomnia. i cannot sleep with this terrible cold, i keep on dreaming im suffocating and then i wake up in a cold sweat. i have the most disturbing dreams and inbetween i still need to pee atleaset 4 times I really could do with just one decent nights sleep!!!

Sorry, im having a bit of a down day hence all the complaining. Today really was one of those days where i shouldve been better off in bed!!

@Juanita - it really is difficult when friendships become strained or completely lost when you're going through a major life milestone Hugs to you. I think what makes it worse is when you're trying to decide on who to ask to be godparents and then wonder if the same people that you are so close with now will still be there in a few year's time.

I was very impressed with Baby City yesterday. Decided to go after work and see if I could exchange the size 4 nappies that I had. No issues at all. I found that their prices weren't bad either – I've been looking at the specials and keeping track of prices online (PnP, Makro, Takealot) and in general have found that Takealot had good prices. Baby City's are about the same, but for the Huggies size 1 they have a banded pack which has two packs of 42 nappies and a pack of wetwipes for R150. The pack of 66 size 2 nappies are also R150. So I got those, then used a gift voucher from my stork party and the R30 off discount voucher from the Babysense seminar to buy a microwave steriliser (Snookums, fits all sizes and brands and is on special for R150 - normally R200) and a sleep positioner. So after everything only had to pay in R10

Otherwise am suffering for having pizza last night, heartburn this morning!
