file Burning the midnight oil together

Hello night moomies :) my little munchkin went to bed early, just after eight, so now she was hungry again which is quite unusual for her. Now she thinks it's party time - sigh, she thinks must've skipped the relevant chapter in the Baby Sense book again when she last read it. She only fed three minutes again though. I can see myself getting up at three to express as she stimulates my milk production hectically with her wild night mini feeds. Nikki, forgot to reply yesterday: I'm getting hungry too in the middle of the night, blame it on the breastfeeding. In fact, I'm starving right now but too lazy to go downstairs. Girly, K is doing so so well, you can be really proud. Sounds like a brilliant paed. What's his name and is he at Panorama? Need a new one for Lilly once we've moved to that side. About the fights with dh: we had a couple of hectic ones as well but it's already getting better, hubby seems to understand more and more how tough it can be to be with baba the whole day. I really shouldn't complain, he's extremely involved and does a lot to relieve me in the evenings and on weekends. Yet we do have our moments. I suppose there's no relationship in the world that doesn't take strain once a newborn is around. I hate fighting with Lilly being present too though!! Ok, I think it's the white noise cd for us now, somebody's way to awake for that hour. Later mommies x

evening ladies. Been another rough one from 6:30 till 10. I think its my fault though. I obviously miss the transition from calm alert to active calm and then she just wont go down. But i must say the transition must be so quick and subtle cos one minute she is fine, the next not.
Maybe I will get it right next time.

Spoke some things out with DH. It was very tense and I still dont think he gets what Im saying but I am sure Im not alone and will just have to deal with it because I cannot take the fighting. Its not like us. And I especially dont like fighting around Kaylee.

We went to paed today for 6 week check up and to hear him say on more than one occasion just how happy he is with her progress made me happy and proud. I spoke to him about the reflux. Its better since wd stopped the meds. He does not see a need to medicate as she is picking up weight nicely. He also said not to let anyone tell me its got to do with my milk or take something to change my milk. He is very pro breast feeding which suits me perfectly. We have been blessed with a lovely doctor.

Well i thought i was going to sleep now but appears little madam has other plans. She fed every hour to 1.5hr since 5pm so mommy really needs a break. I hope it means she will sleep well tonight.

Till later!

Thanx Yaz & Claudia. I'll try it today if she still doesn't wanna nap in her cot.

Men are just clueless sometimes. My DH used to think I had it easy being home, until his company said he can work from home on Tuesdays. Then he realized how much work goes into looking after a baby, he's de one who said we r getting the nanny next month ;(

have a relaxing day ladies :)

Hey ladies, sounds like you all had tough nights. James went through again, so it seems like he is doing alternating days now.

Shame Girly, surely if you are only employing her 1 day a week you can just say you dont need her anymore - she sounds nuts. That said, try and get Kaylee used to sleepig through noise - it will make your life a LOT easier. As for your hubby and you fighting - like we said on your 2 month post, this is common. My hubby and I only stopped fighting ALL the time recently and for all the reasons yo are complaining about. Men dont realise how hard it is at home with a baby:)
Also try bathing Girly as soon as she wakes from her afternoon nap, so that its a while before she gets put down for he night and rather try a calming activity before bed. I bath James at about 5h30pm, then change and read a story and feed, before bed. At KAylees age I was still swaddling and rocking!

As for spoiling your babies (this is my opinion, not the absolute law) I think this was invented by some stupid person yeasr ago - no other mammals ignore their babies basic needs like humans do. Infact Baby chimpanzees (closest relative to humans) sleep with their mothers untill about 4 years old. They nurse when they need and are carried around. No adult chimps still sleep with their mothers. There is a little evidence to suggest that forcing children it=nto parent centered routines affects their confidence later in life. Whether true or not I fought to try get James to do what I wanted him to do and it made me miserable. Then I stopped. I used to put him in my sling when he was little and do house chores like that - he started sleeping well. When he bacame too heavy I started rocking him to sleep. He used to fight the dummy so I stopped forcin it and decided to use me as his dummy. I stopped watching the clock and started feeding him whenever he was a little irritable (it always calmed him down - note I breastfeed, dont know if the same applies to bottles) or every 3 hours during the day if that was sooner. I could do all this because I dont work a 9-5 job, but he is now 5 months, he sleeps through te night, and I can put him down while still awake and usually he will drift off to sleep on his own (if he is calm), so for all that I have done, he doesnt seem to have been spoilt.
(please also note that I believe this for babies, not for toddlers who are pushing boundries)

Just quickly catching up now that I have a bit of me-time hehe. Managed to put Lilly down after round three last night at 23h30. She then woke up past 3 but only wanted to feed for 2 minutes, all niggly on the boob. After that she was of course wide awake but I was so tired I thought: NO, not now and had a word or two with her lol! I swaddled her hard and said "it's enough now, Missy! You are going to sleep now!" She looked at me all flabbergasted. Not sure what worked in the end, but she did go back to sleep after our little conversation lol.

Girly, now that my brain is properly working I would suggest you "retrench" her - like Deja suggested tell her you can't afford it anymore. Maybe offer her a "package" so she won't go to the CCMA. Does she have a contract at all? If you are officially employing her there are certain guidelines you have to follow when pursuing a rentrenchment, it's all on the Labour Guide Homepage.

W.r.t. bath time: bathing stimulates Lilly so much that we only do it on the weekend during her awake time in the morning. We will introduce a bath and bed time routine once we have moved and she's past the 3 month mark. I top and tail her thoroughly every day, sometimes twice. They don't sweat or anything so that's perfectly fine.

Patty, I'm trying to do all household chores in the morning when Lilly sleeps from her morning feed at 5 or 6 till about 8h30/ 9. For a couple of days now I have also been able to put her down on the bed or on her doughnut or bouncy chair while she's awake and quickly vaccum the room or whatever I need to do. She'll tolerate that for a few minutes and keeps herself busy with looking around and following Mommy with her eyes :)

I'm not worried about spoiling her by carrying her around - I don't believe you can spoil very young babies. And I'd rather have her sleep properly for 2 hours or more on my arm, chest or in the wrap than having to handle her when she's as over tired as last night cause she never napped in the afternoon. When she's really fast asleep I sometimes manage to roll her off me and put her down next to me on the couch where she'll sleep for longer when I'm lucky. My Mom reckons it's sweet vendetta as she apparently carried me around for 9 months lol!

Hope everyone will have a good day!
x

hope you get some shut eye soon!

Forgot to say hi to Elaine yesterday. You most welcome to join in!

Yes i have read baby sense and attempting to read it again. I keep everythin dark and only switch bed side lamp to change her then it goes off again. Also dont make a sound. It looks like she will go down now. Last night was a first. Usually after a feed and a change i put her on my chest to make sure she is calm and not niggly. Then i put her down and thats that. Wd struggling to get her to sleep after her bath though. It seems to wake her. I follow the feed bath feed but the last 2 nights she is awake from 7:30 till 11. So we take turns to get her to sleep. One thing though is that wd cant put her drowsy into bed she wont go to sleep. So sometimes we put her im her swing till she is sleeping then move her. Gotta figure this one out.
