question-circle What worked for you - what didn't?

I bought a chest of drawers (nappy changer) from furnicraft for about R1000 instead of a compactum and it works brilliantly. I have a changing mat on top and I change nappies, change clothes and bath LG on it.
I use cloth nappies as burp clothes (thanks to the advice of someone on PF). I've found that the woolies ones work best. The colibri ones fray terribly and the glodina ones are a bit thick.
Edgars have a triple pack of baby bath hooded towels which are fantastic. I think that if you buy the triple pack you basically get one free instead of buying them individually.

I used the following nappies :
Huggies size 1 : 84 nappies
Pampers size 1 : 140 nappies

This was in 3.5 weeks.

Pampers size 2 : 658 nappies
Huggies size 2 : 22 nappies
Panda (from dischem) : 50 nappies

Haven't kept track of the no 3's but as Justine said you use ALOT. Still using them. I used a ridiculous amount of nappies because my LG used to cry everytime she wet her nappy and the only way to calm her was to change it. I had a drawer FULL of wet wipes (+/- 1400 if memory serves) and used them ALL within about 2 months. So yes you can never have enough. I like the TLC ones from Clicks best. I would buy a variety so that you can try lots of different types. Now I use very few wipes as I only use them for poo nappies and we only have 1 of those a day now.

You can never have enough wet wipes. The huggies pure is awesome when baby is small as it is just like a clothe. I am using the pigeon wet wipes now. They are fairly priced and you can buy them in bulk.

I used the following nappies:

Pampers no 1 100x nappies
Pampers no 2 3 x packs of 74 each
Huggies Gold size 3 (have lost count as they use alot in this size) LOTS LOTS LOTS
Pampers sleep and Play size 3 just as many as he used those at school
Huggies Gold size 4 so far 4x packs of 54 each.

I had bought 3 boxes of Nuk breast pads and if I used 10, it would be alot as I didnt leak at all.

Joyous Dylan used a carry cot as his bed for 7 months. We bought the really big one and it was awesome. Dylan can still fit in it now. Treehouse and babyroom have them and all the covers are removable for washing. Money well spent and I could take it out for him to sleep in.

I love the pick n pay wetwipes or pigeon and they are well prices and yes buy lots of them.

don't buy too many packs of newborn nappies as they tend to outgrow these quickly and shops are nearby.

I liked pigeon breastpads but my boobs didnt leak much.

If you buy breast pads, buy the more expensive ones! I loved the Pigeon Premium ones. I threw like 3 x packets of breast pads away as they were hurting my boobs. Nuk was one of them. Your boobs are very sensitive and the edge of the breast pad can hurt you.

Joyous, my friend bought both the washable breastpads and the disposable ones. She HATED the washable ones - said they were so bulky you could clearly see them through your top! It was so obvious you were wearing them. The disposable breastpads on the other hand we discreet and totally not visible to people looking at you.

As far as wetwipes go - my motto is that you can never ever have too many wetwipes!

My SIL used their carrycot for about the first month or three quite a lot, but after that it starts getting too small for baby. Her baby was born in the middle of winter so they used to put him in there wrapped in lots of blankets on their bed (their room was the warmest) or later in the carrycot in the pram next to their bed. But their carrycot came free with their pram. I am going to borrow theirs but probably wouldn't buy one new as you don't use it very long (unless you buy the really big one from Treehouse).

Girly I bought that preggie pillow from Baby City - the long one that can then be used for breastfeeding also.

I absolutely LOVE it - been sleeping so much more comfortably since i bought it. And it can be used in so many different ways. Best thing i ever bought!
