Marina I suffered with overactive thyroid and had to be monitored monthly by my sepcialist. I was on meds every month which worried me alot. My vist plus bloods every month was about R1000 and some months blood tests every 2 weeks so R572 x 2:( Luckily after the birth of my daughter my thyroid stabilised until late last year it went slightly overactive again. not nearly as serious or life threatening as the first time.

My daughter had to be tested the day she was born and then 2 days later. They had to take blood from my poor screaming baby...still makes me cry. And then they came back and told me they took too little blood the second time so had to redo the test:( I can cry right now when I think about it....

So sad to know this baby will also have to be tested immediately at birth:( Not fair my stupid health issues impose on my children.....

Simone - Congrats on the scan, it must have felt good hearing the heartbeat. I also have a thyroid problem; have been on eltroxin from age of 16. I phoned my specialist to tell him I am pregnant, because apparently one should take more meds when pregnant. He said that it is only in the mid of the pregnancy and should I go for blood test around 4 - 5 months and then he will up my eltroxin to what it should be. I also went for a second opinion on my thyroid the beginning of the year and that doctor send me for a sonar, blood test (x2) and I went to see him twice, was suppose to go once more, but decided to skip that, because we already new that my specialist was right with his diagnosis, that my thyroid should not be taken out, until really necessary. So that is why most of my medical aid is finished.

I also don't feel well today, I think my husband though I was mad this morning, because I didn't really spoke to him, I just tried to keep everything down.

I can't wait for next week Wednesday!!! My first scan

I was feeling so sorry for myself on top of it. I dont know if it was adrenaline for the the scan but today I'm actually feeling a tiny bit better. Not so tired...had some food for lunch! For the first time in ages!!!!

Are you taking any vitamins? Vix told me about vit b6...she said it might help a bit, but I didnt get around to taking it. So worth a try?

Shame just try and rest as much as possible! I'm so lucky in that my mom or brother cooks and they'll entertain my daughter and hubby does everything else for me. So I've literally been a bum this last 2-3 weeks.....

Dont worry...took me a year to pay my gynae as well...maybe longer! After I got a 30% discount I still had to pay in R3000 after medical aid covered their bit. On a new medical aid now so hoping the benefits will be a bit better....though these blood tests are worrying me. My gynae is very thorough...which is great of course....but none of my friends at other gynae's have all these tests:(

I feel terrible today

I feel sick like bad, i'm getting weird smells that no one else is getting and i've got the most bitter ugly kinda taste in my mouth.

I honestly hated this stage of pregnancy even with the first one but i guess it comes with the package hey

i also feel like im going up & down an emotional rollercoaster,right now i just feel like sobbing my heart out for absolutely no reason. Is any1 else feeling this way?.. and as for the fatigue,its killing me.I was in Bed by 8:30 last night and had a good nights rest n yet by 11 today i was yawning and could barely keep my eyes open.

Sorry ladies, i know i sound like a total moan but who else will understand except a preggy sister lol....

Lets not get into the medical bills issue ladies, i am still paying my gynae for my Csec 8 months ago .. he charges above medical aid rates so i had to pay in ... its hectic with somuch you have to pay when a baby arrives. the pead doesnt accept medical aid and neither does the aneathist (sorry abt the spelling)

Morning ladies

Scan went well. heartbeat nice and strong! Doc said: good news, there's only one! So Dh says to me: But more than 1 is also good news??? lol. I gave him the death stare! lol

Gynae going away for a month from next Friday SO I am seeing him again next Thursday before he leaves to make sure everything is okay. I'll then have down's scan while he is gone so at least baby will be checked on in the time he is away.

I have thyroid issues so I have to see endocrinologist in a month, I have a ton of bloodwork to do with down's test that will cost me I am guessing around R2000 - R2500 *insert sobbing face*. will have to pay Cash:( So already I hear the money falling from my pockets!

I was saying to somebody despite hearing heartbeat and seeing baby's little teeny tiny arms moving...this still feels kinda surreal...Dh said the same thing...still doesnt seem real. I wonder why so different from 1st pregnancy???

That being said I am quite excited to move through the pregnancy.

I was so nauseous last night but because my daughter decided to mock and mimic me while I was trying to throw up I burst out laughing and the nausea left me! So maybe MS is on its way out???

Karatemum I only notice now you are due on Christmas day??? Oh glory! My gynae said to me: Wow what bad planning on your due date hey??? lol.

Dh said to me 5 min before that: Simone who is going to come to our poor child's bday parties??? So ya...we really planned wrong...BUt its all in God's time...so even if its just our little family of 4 at the bday party....so be it:)

Next scan is Mandy and then???? 1 June is Marina. Then?????

marina - yup babies cost a lot before they even pop out! The bills from Dr's can actually get crazy.

Simone - Wow shame you have also had some hectic medical bills, it is mad what some Drs charge. I know that last one hubby went to was R500 for a 2 min visit to tell him absolutely nothing. He and I were both so hacked off we even laid a complaint with his head of dept, not that that did anything. But they get away with charging stupid amounts for doing next to nothing, why I don't know!

I hope your sickies gets better soon, shame that's one thing I was very glad when it stopped!
