WOW Girly thats getting quite complicated

Kaelyns on a schedule that works quite nicely for her and us

5am - Milk feed

7:30am - Porridge (either nestum first cereal, nestum banana or nestum cold apple & Cranberry)

10am - Milk feed

1pm - Lunch 3 ice-cubes of fruit (so far she has had apple, pear, banana - tried avo bud didn't like it)

3pm - bottle feed

6pm - Veggies (normally takes the equivalent of a full purity 1st jar and looks for more) She has tried - chicken and apple (loved it) butternut, sweet potato, carrot, geez i cant even remember oh mielie, etc

7/7:30 - bedtime bottle

All bottles are about 230mls (or i let her breastfeed if i can) and all solid feeds are followed by water in her sippy cup

Last week Kaelyn also had two nights of really really bad sleep, but its past now, she started sleeping well again, basically friday night we made a point of throwing out her bedtime schedule as best we could, we took her out and kept her distracted... she just decided to fall asleep on my lap eventually, but it helped

The clinic sister gave me the following eating guide for 6-9 months:

6h00: Milk feed
8h00: Cereal/Fruit
10h00: Rooibos tea or mix with fruit juice
12h00: Pureed fruit, yogurt or vegetables
14h00: Milk feed
16h00: Rooibos tea with rusk
18h00: Meat plus 1/2 cup vegetables and potatoes
19-20h00: Milk feed
Evening: Milk feed

She says she must be having something every 2 hours.
But now only 3 milk feeds during the day, as apposed to Kaylee's 4 or 5.

Also says the following:
White bread: Toast the bread and let baby chew or suck on it.
Wheat-based cereal: Mix with breastmilk or infant formula
Vegetables: Beetroot, cabbage, potato, sweet potato, broccoli, peas, cauliflower, spinach or soup
(Peal, steam & mash. Many babies enjoy eating peas without them being mashed. Let them pick them up in their fingers) (This also good for fine motor development)
Plain yoghurt: Yoghurt can be served as is or mixed with pureed fruit or jelly
Rice and pasta: Boiled and soft
Cheese: Grated or cottage
Lentils: Soak and then boil till soft enough to mash
Chicken, beef, lamb, port, fish: Roast or casserole. Mince and mix with gravy to make it soft.
Egg yolk: Boiled and mashed.
Milk feed 600mls per day.

Mix 2 vegetables together eg pumpkin and potato, green veggies
Add grated cheese to veggies and stir through
Add cotage cheese or marmite to veggies
Mix cooked rice with vegetables
Mix cooked pasta with vegetables
Mix vegetables with cooked red lentils
Mix beef mince or chicken mince with vegetables
Mix mince meats with rice or pasta
Mix tinned fish (tuna & salmon) with veggies
Experiment with different flavours and sauces

Also says to make a white sauce / cheese sauce to mix with the veggies.

Shew but that's a lot to think about!!! And really got to get creative too. My freezer just isn't big enough.

I think some of these things are too advanced for K - example the pasta being boiled and soft. If I put something non pureed into K's mouth and it sits on her tongue, if it doesnt slide back down her throat she doesnt like it and she gags and then throws up.
Veggies I'm surprised about all these gassy options like cabbage & cauliflower.
K isnt really interested in toast or teething biscuits but I try give her at least once a day.
I have not ventured to trying egg yolk yet. I must buy a yolk seperator cos I suck at it. Where can I get that?

K's schedule is changing but I'm not sure how quickly I must change her to the above schedule.
She has milk between 5 & 6, 2 hrs later I give her cereal, 2 hrs later its a milk feed, 2 hrs later its yogurt (I try give her rooibos but not interested) 2 hrs later milk again, 2 hrs later lunch, 2 hrs later milk, 2hrs later supper, 2hrs later milk and then its bed time.
So the new schedule says to drop 10am feed and give rooibos tea but K doesnt drink it. And same with 4pm.
My only concern is that if I reduce her milk during the day she'll drink even more at night.
Because right now there's a 4hr gap during the day between feeds, and at night only a 3hr gap!

Eileen glad the cramps are getting better now. K had a really bad night on Thursday, and I have a feeling it was the laughing cow cheese I gave her with her supper. Although she was happily awake, I'm too scared to try again, dont want another night like that.
Congrats on the crawling attempts! That's huge progress :) Before you know it she'll be crawling all over the place!
Ditto on hair on my neck, its very frustrating cos I do love how my hair looks down but 30mins max and I get frustrated and it goes up again. But I dont look good in short hair, my face is too round so I cant go with a short style.

Robyn woot! And that you got it on video is awesome! Now the fun starts hey! Was she showing any signs of doing this before or was it a sudden change?
Have you tried the fruit puree with yoghurt instead of on its own? I buy the double fat plain yoghurt from woolies and mix it with fruit and thats her mid morning snack.
Shew so more and more crawlers suddenly! Your babies are developing ahead of schedule I thought crawling only starts at 7 months!

Kaylee is now cutting her first 2 teeth at the bottom. They are a little bit out, not all the way but way more than before. Lets hope they keep coming out and dont go back down again. She is wearing her teething necklace (Thanks Charnenay!!!) and hasnt been too niggly.

I have cooked up a storm of baby food today. Chicken & yoghurt, peas, potato & cottage cheese (which makes it very sticky so not sure if K will tolerate it...) and gonna finish off with some sweet potato. When I have more space in my freezer I'll make mince and I need to go buy some butternut. Any other suggestions? I must also try tuna with veggies, but I dont really know from a taste point of view what veggies goes with what meat. Any suggestions welcome?

Hi all,

Girly, so happy you cancelled the studies and feeling better. Sometimes it's just not worth the stress. Though as woman and supermoms we don't want to let go. We can mos do it all, and never want to let anyone down. Exhibit A staring at the laptop!

Stress and sleep deprevation makes sure there's a constant supply of meltdowns on this side too! So you're not alone on that one.

The food journal is going well, nothing gets past me! Everyone have been told that I need to know exactly what goes into Iz's mouth (grandparents!!!!!). We've had 1 1/2 days without cramps or vomiting :woohoo: . She is strictly on mommy's food and her milk.

I was so proud of my nunu yesterday at ballet, there's a daddy who's baby is 7 months old and he was waiting for his girl. So we always chat about the babies and as I was talking bout her non-existent attempts of crawling, Iz decided to try all these crawling moves! :P Out of nowhere, going on her knees! She's never done before! Hehehe.

Jeaninie, ouch for the measles! Strongs hun, luckily they only supposed to get it once in a lifetime.

Robyn, nice catching her antics on video. The sessions I go for you'd get at any beauty salon I think. Slimming sessions. Electric Muscle Stimulation, 30 minute sessions is about 1000 situps, 3-4 hours in the gym. It really does work wonders with cellulite as well, kinda got nothing left on my thighs :woohoo: .

M2m I know excerise works, but I'm way too impatient, that's why I'm going for the sessions to give me a kick start....then I'll continue at home with tae bo, cause time and money for gym right now is out of the question.

Girly, I hate hair in my neck, even 1 odd hair irritates the living daylights out of me!

Me and the 3 girls went to see Never say never - Justin Bieber in 3D this morning while DH went out on the boat. Awh it was so nice, really inspiring, especially for Abby in persuing her dreams. Really got a lot of respect for that cute boykie  . Luckily I booked online to get the back isle seats, cause me and the girls just love music too much to sit still  . Iz slept 3/4 through the movie, and also checked out the oulike boykie on the huuuge tv when she woke up. :woohoo: It was lekker having some chill time with my girls. Before the big rush started again. :S

Hope everyone is having a wonderfull weekend!

Morning ladies

OMG - I walked into Dakota's room just now and she had pulled herself up on the side of the cot (I can't remember who said their child looked like the Grudge boy - but I def saw remnants of that too!) She had her hands on either side of her face and was trying to chew on the cot. When I walked up to her, she was just on her knees but then actually stood up on her toes!!!! (and I got it all on video!) Woo Hoo :woohoo:

Dakota is sitting nicely and has started to crawl (in her own rudimentary way, but she can cross the length of her cot and a bed and even her nursery if she wants)

She has only just started wearing 3-6m clothes and still wears alot of her 0-3m (altho they are abit short but baggy cos she's 68cm & 6.5kg at the mo')

I'm now giving her Chicken and veggies but she doesn't like apple or pear puree so I give those to her with cereal as a dessert (but she loves apple & grapes in the mesh feeder)

Eileen - pls give me more info on this machine and the treatment you are having - I'm desparate to lose cm's (that that worried about weight, just size!!) :(

M2M thats hectic hun! You seem to cope very well with it all!
Yes we must get together for coffee sometime. But you are always so busy :) And I want to see Liesl again too.
Your Liam is gorgeous! He is very strong indeed!
K is nowhere near doing those things yet, but I think 7months is the early side of 'normal' for crawling, and some only crawl at 9 months so I'm not too worried.

Jeanine shame hun :( Hope you got some sleep last night and if not, hopefully you can catch up today. I seriously love weekends!

Eileen when it rains it pours! Good luck today I really feel for you! I think when all this is passed you must put your foot down and demand some you time, spend an afternoon at a spa or something.
Funny how that is about hair do's, you want to grow it but get fed up so cut it again. My mom spent her entire adult life doing that, and now its just short. I must be honest I cannot stand hair in my face so even when its shorter if I can pull it back I do. Only if I'm going out somewhere is it loose, but even then I take a hair band with in case.
How's the food journal coming?

Kerry she is toooooo cute!

AFM I have cancelled my studies for the year!!! I had a mini break down yesterday, I just couldn't bare the pressure, and was spending every waking moment stressing yet couldnt find the motivation to actually pick up the books during the day, and spent my evenings studying till midnight. But its just not worth the stress and DH finally agreed that I must cancel.
I feel such a weight lifted off my shoulders, now I can enjoy Kaylee and spend my free time finding work, and sorting out the house etc. I'm so over a messy house!

K is not sleeping well at all lately - well pretty much since the week before her op. She is feeding 3hourly at night, and when she does she is very restless when she goes back down and takes a good 30mins (usually in our bed) to settle. So even if I go to bed at 10 (which hasnt been happening anyways) and wake at 6, I still only get 5-6 hrs a night of broken sleep.
I introduced proteins this week, in the hope that it will help her sleep, but thats been since Monday and there's no improvement at all. Talk about sleep regression. It hasnt been this bad since she was a newborn.
During the day her schedule is changing too. She's now starting to skip her 10am feed, so I'm going to start giving her tea instead, and she's going 4hours between feeds during the day (go figure!) and something to eat 2hrs after each milk feed. Started with yoghurt this week as well.
And she's starting to stay awake longer (3hrs at a time) and then nap for 1-1,5hrs at a time, but not every time, sometimes only 30mins.
So everything i've gotten used to I now need to adjust again.

Shew I cant keep my eyes open. Jeanine I cant begin to imagine how tired you must be.

Eileen speaking of cortizone and severe asthma...I can relate,i have what the call Asthma TRIAD - it is severe bronchial asthma, nasal polyposis, and intolerance to aspirin and related chemicals, also known as Samter's syndrome and to top it all i have various allergies...

i'm currently on 40mg Pulmison cortizone tablets, Symbicord (cortizone inhaler/reliever), nexomist (nasal spray), deselex tablets (allergies)....
and seeing a pulmonologist and ENT every 3 months to check if all is still ok...

i'm actually going for a sinus reconstructive surgery next wednesday. bout every three years they have to reconstruct it due to the growths (polyps) in my sinusses.

answer lies in exercise exercise.... :silly:

shame jeanine!! poor lil man, strongs, my monster had it in December and Liam didn't get it TG!!

hehe babyproofing our homes...our's are still relatively baby proof from the fisrt one ;-) but must say we are bit more relaxed with number 2
