Shame Girly, hope those teeth comes out soon poor k. Are you putting anything on her gums? The Ashton & Parsons worked great for Emily, but she only kept us out of sleep the night before the first tooth actually made it's appearance, other than that teething has been easy for her. So, I hope Kaylee's fussiness means that there is a tooth very close by and that the pain is short lived. Not nice to see them so miserable.

As for the walking ring, we are planning on using one. I have Emily in one now but it is currently a rocker that gets converted to a walking ring when she's ready. Right now, her feet doesn't even reach the floor yet, so we still have it set as a rocker.

Personally, I think that as long as you restrict the amount of time they actually spend in it, it can't do any harm. I can see how it might hinder development if you plan on having them in there for every waking hour, but other than that, I personally don't believe its going to do any damage. My sister had both her children in walking rings and her daughter was crawling at 6.5 months, her son started crawling at 8 months and both of them were walking before their first bday. I have plenty of other friends who have also used a walking ring and none of their children had or have developmental problems. I only have 1 friend who never used walking rings with her 2 children and they did not develop any faster or slower than any of the other kids. So, it's all the same to me, just preference.

Girly, how did Kaylee do at the daymom? Who did you eventually choose and are you going to be sending her a few times a week to get used to her so long? And, how's the job hunt going? anything promising yet?

Emily is now using the big bath and she LOVES it!! She is practically crawling in there already I have to hold on real tight. I have her in a seat and mat combination that I bought at Woolies (will post a pic tomorrow). As for food, I have started cooking and freezing vegetable portions for her and she is finally eating must not have liked the Organix and Olli jar food too much. I also bought a different cereal because it's the only one my nephew would take, so I thought I would give it a try and yip, she also prefers that one, so she has her breakfast without a fight now as well

Hey girls

Just checking in quickly.

K is teething ferociously this weekend, nothing will cheer her up. Waiting for the ponstel to kick in this weekend. And in laws on their way for lunch to spend time with her. Afraid theyre not going to have much fun. DH has her now cos I'm just exhausted, she woke up quite a bit last night and was like this yesterday as well. My poor baby I just hope these teeth actually come out soon.

Kerry sounds like a predicament. Unfortunately our parents aren't always perfect and have their own agenda's or needs to fill. You need to do what's going to be best for your girl. There are some great day moms who will respect your routine / wishes and who maintain a high standard of care with their children so they can get good referrals. She is clearly not respecting your wishes and going behind your back to have things her way. Seems to me like she's playing dress up rather than looking after LO. Sometimes you gotta be cruel to be kind so you should probably sit her down if you want things to work out.

Those of you using walking rings whats your motivation for this? My paed strongly advised against using walking rings, as then they get used to strengthening their legs but their arms become lazy and this will impact on crawling? My friends used walkers instead once baby was strong enough for one (around 8 or 9 months).

I need to go buy a feeding chair for K for feeds. I usually have her in the bumbo chair but she pulls herself out of it now and hangs over the side so its impossible to feed this way.

Anyway better get going, and relieve hubby again.

BabyK - Dakota was born on 26 Aug (will be 5 months on Wed!!! I can't believe it)
It was a 25 hour labour with a failed epidural (I had to have a second one, just as I as had to push!!)

Charnenay - we actually didn't have an issue taking her dummy away since we took it away so early

KerryA - I'll try the powder (doesn't seem like Teejel is working very well and she hates the taste of it)
I'll get a walking ring and see how she likes it - she can hold herself up nicely but just needs some support to stop her falling to the side

Shame Kerry - that is terrible I can imagine my MIL doing the same things if she were looking after Emily though. She would however listen if she found that it was indeed affecting the child (like with the exczema) it's really sad that you have to consider a day mom when Kaelyn does have a grandmother who is available to look after her, but I would have done the same.

If it were just little things that did not compromise on safety, I would say, "let it go". But, hearing the high chair and campcot incidents, I would rather recommend that you get a trustworthy, competent person to look after her. Probably going to cause lots of tension, but she brought it on herself.

Okay so i have had enough... excuse the gripe...

So the MIL who is looking after Kaelyn isn't listening to me, in fact it feels as if every time a make a special request not to do something she goes out of her way to prove me wrong!

The first day we gave her two bottles of defrosted frozen breastmilk and a backup bottle of fresh milk which she probably wouldn't need but just in case she did, if not i would use it for her pr-bed feed. we told her to please use the pink bottles first as they had been frozen and wouldn't last to the night feed... We get there to fetch her and Kaelyn has been fed.. 1 fresh bottle, 1 frozen bottle and a full bottle of rooibos tea which she took upon herself to make, because Kaelyn who doesn't drink the stuff was thirsty!!! So i was officially down a bottle of precious breastmilk because the thawed milk was indeed off by bedtime.

Day two we see her put baby in the campcot with the baby changer thingie there with a huuuge pile of towels on top... we tell her that its a health hazzard as baby can reach the changer and may get suffocated.... she says just let me see you off and ill take it down... we get back to fetch her and its still there

Day three... we have asked her not to put Kaelyn in the second hand high chair she has bought for her as she cant sit on her own yet and the straps are missing... get there to fetch her and for some reason they have moved the highchair to the kitchen table.

Day four huge fight about her not listening to us.... threaten creche, shes angry coz everytime we fight we threaten creche to get her to listen... no admission that shes done wrong but she says she will listen so we give in...

Before she took Kaelyn we told her not to worry about washing K's clothes as they have to be washed in special baby soap because Kaelyn still gets exzema

Day five silence.... but i happen to notice on the clothes horse in the back room there are 5 little babygrows hanging, I shrug it off and say nothing as its eggshells as it is... but on the weekend I find poor baby's legs starting with exzema so out comes the fancy cream from the paed to treat it

Monday hubby phones her and she says Wheres the exema ill sort it out... We discover shes been putting Kaelyn in clothes shes keeping at her house and before we get there changing her back into our clothes... but thats not the problem shes been washing said clothes in normal washing powder!! and also K is wearing about 4-5 outfits a DAY.... grrrrrr what does MIL think shes a blinking DOLL or something?

she almost accidentally told us yesterday that even though shes been asked not to bath Kaelyn she has been doing it. Managed in the nick of time (too late actually) to say "change"

Okay end of gripe

Were going to see a daymom this evening, we don't know how much she wants to charge as she wont discuss over the phone but i am really hoping it all works out because my poor little K is getting the raw end of the deal!

Cols - thank, Kaelyn started by resting her hands then for about a week kept pushing on it with her hands which was frustrating coz she pushes the bottle out of her mouth and then cries, then she just got it right i guess. She also wrestles me for the spoon most nights... but if i give it to her she tips the food off and then only gets it to her mouth

Good luck with the studies, i decided this semester i am not so brave!

EileenB - Kaelyn has a knack of knowing i am eating even when she's out the room... lol great diet plan though i must admit! Good luck getting ABZ back down to earth, i bet its pretty tough! So 6 day difference, seems bigger doesn't it. Luckily Kaelyn sleeps at night... for now.

Charnenay - Kaelyn has a little doggie... but i didn't want to get into trouble so at night in her crib she has a teddy soother blankie... so now she will grab whatevers handy and rub it against her little face... so if she wants to sleep and all i have is the burp cloth she's happy with that.

RobynC - Have you tried puting her in a walking ring yet? Kaelyn also hates the sitting thing i thought i was doomed to hold het till i tried the walking ring... she loves it... had to take the toy bar off at first coz it overstimulated her but two weeks on and she loves it now. as for the fist in the mouth... rub the ashton&parsons powder on her lil gums and you will get a good sized break from that and the niggles... and i found at night when i put K to bed i put a tiny bit of teejel on her gums and she sleeps better

Babyks mom - yeah the epressing thing gets so very very tiresome doesn't it? I am gonna try keep it up as long as i can, for now.

girly, Emily also lifts herself right out of the bumbo and seems to turn her head all the way around when we try to feed her - everything else is more interesting than her food right now BUT when she sees us eating, she goes NUTS!!! She screams for our food but refuses to eat her own Think I am going to have to start cooking vegetables for her, I am giving the Organix and Olli foods at the moment, but she really just isn't interested. Give her something out of your plate though and she opens her mouth wide for that, but for her own food, she pinches her lips so tight together!!!

At what age do you plan on introducing meat??

Robyn - did you struggle after taking the dummy away,I'm very curious.
