Hi ladies

I'm taking Dakota for her next weigh-in & checkup on Thurs, so will see how she's grown over the Christmas period (not as much as mommy has though!!!)
At the last check (beginning Dec) she was 1kg under the ave, but 2cm taller than ave, so hopefully she has picked up more weight (she def feels like it!)

At the moment she's on a 3, 7, 11 routine (ie 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm - but misses the 3am feed, so sleeps for 7/8 hours during the night)
She used to sleep for about 2-3hrs between each feed, but now she only sleeps for about 1.5-2hrs and plays
She's very good keeping herself happy - will play with her dolly or talks to her cot mobile (very sweet - lots of baby-talk/cooing etc) and loves grabbing her feet. She's also now sitting nicely in her bumbo seat.
She only sleeps on her tummy (otherwise she gets distracted on her back and won't sleep) but because she is rolling over so much now, we have to put her sleep wedge next to her so she can't roll over onto her back! But she can get very grumpy when she's tired (shampies!) otherwise, thankfully(!!!!) she is a very contented, happy little girl

I am wanting to keep her off rice cereal until 6months (if possible/recommended)

KerryA, I hear you on the 'discovering feet' part! Iz also discovered her feer bout 2 weeks ago and won't let them go!

Last week my eldest daughter was trying to change Iz's nappy, but gave up, cause she wouldn't let go of her feet.

Girly i just made about 20mls milk and then mixed in porridge to right thickness and when she stops eating or turns away from the spoon i thow whats left out... i am now using 50mls milk and shes just about finishing it.

I put her in her walking ring... lol granny got it for her for christmas, its got a bouncing mat at the bottom... she loves it

RE the consistency, its not really an exact science, thick enough to stay on the spoon but still a little runny... sort of like yoghurt.

Kaelyn discovered her feet on holiday... she now holds them most times... makes it easy to wash her bum but hard to get the clean nappy on. :-) but its too cute... she even had the one in her mouth the other day...

Good luck with the job i am sure something will come up. :-)

Girly, I'm also doing BCom, actually didnt do well last year because of the pregnancy so trying to get back on track. I'm finishing off 1st year and have done 1 x 2nd year module already.

Regarding cereal what I did is I made up a bottle of formula and added a little at a time until I got the "right" consistancy. Evan doesnt like his cereal too runny... It's trial and error with that. In the begining they push the cereal out because they're not used to the texture but soon enough they get used to it. I also started off with a little cereal in the morning and then some at night. Evan started to sleep until 5 am then he started waking in the mddle of the night for milk again I started him on veggies for lunch. He now has a whole jar of purity stage 1 for lunch. I found the veggies made him a bit gassy while he was getting used to them. Carrots make them a little constipated. He LOVES carrots and sweet potato.

I give him the cerelac rice stage 1 and add milk even though they say you can just add water. The nurse told me to do that to make sure he still gets his milk. He was preferring his solids to his milk but now he seems to want his milk again...

It's easier to feed them when they're facing you so in the begining I put evan in his car chair, now I have him in his bouncer chair :)

I give Evan a bottle of milk when he wakes up - anytime from 3:30 - 6:30 am. Then he has his cereal at 8am. Milk at about 10am. Veggies at about 12pm. Milk again at about 3pm (if he'll take it) and then cereal for dinner between 5:30 - 6:30 pm bath, milk and bed.

That was the routine we had before he went to school. Now he wont take his cereal at night so its bottle, bed & waking at 3:30 am again :(

I wait for him to let me know when he wants his bottles and veggies.

I also felt kind of sad when I started Evan on solids. It just feels like they are growing up too fast :(

Take photos and video, it's so cute to watch them!

Good luck and let us know how it goes....

ps I'm on FB, i've sent you a pm :)

Hi all,

Glad to hear everyone is doing good. I got some bad news...I resigned last week as we decided I'm going to be a SAHM for a year. Now the company wants me to work my months notice. I have to start monday. They said I can only work till end Jan. But still.....I don't want to leave my baby girl! My heart is very sore.

All 3 my girls will be going to my mom till school starts. So Iz will have her sisters with her. She adores her sisters. My eldest is like a 2nd mommy to her. And by the time the girls have to return to school, she'll be used to granny. Then the girls will join her at grannies after school.

My heart breaks for my baby, she already had separation anxiety at 4 months and only wants mommy. But I suppose we will survive hey?

Girly, how did the solids go?

So we are starting cereal tomorrow!

Can I ask how you guys introduced it to get an idea?
I called the clinic sister today who advised to do it like this:

Start in the morning between the 6am & 10am feed, using one spoon of cereal mixed with milk, this makes around 4baby spoons full. After 3 days increase it to 2 spoons. Carry on like this until you're using 4spoons of cereal. This is considered a full meal.
When on a full meal for a week, start introducing it late afternoon between the 2pm and 6pm feed again the same with just one spoon for 3 days increasing to 4 spoons.
When you've been doing that for a week you can introduce yellow veggies at lunch time.
None of this is meant to replace milk as milk is the main staple especially until 6months of age.

Only thing I'm not sure on is how much milk to use per teaspoon?
I wasnt sure what cereal to buy as I know some use cerelac and others rice cereal. She suggested rice cereal and I bought the purity one cause its gluten free.

Anyone know re the milk amount?
Anyone doing it any other way?
So we start tomorrow morning, so exciting! But a bit sad at the same time. My little girly is not so little anymore.

Kaylee has officially discovered her feet and plays with them all the time. Just a couple days ago she played with them 'by mistake' but now its definitely intentional. It's so cute!

I went for an interview at that shipping recruitment agency today. It was fairly standard type of interview for them to get me onto their database to find a job for me. She told me I shouldnt have trouble finding a job in my salary range, but it may take some time as jobs are still fairly scarce. And that I may need to consider contract work to start with as many companies are going this way now to protect themselves from retrenchment costs if the economy turns again.
The company I'd really like to work for, 1 cos they're close by and 2 cos they are big and multifaceted just recently went through retrenchments so she doubts they'll have posts open but she will contact them.
The types of companies I'm looking at working at are mostly situated in town, montagu gardens/century city and the new airport industria. Nothing close to home, but hopefully I dont have to go back into town.

Righty, I have yummy watermelon waiting for me, and the last bit of my wine hmmm... Had cupcakes tonight for first time since my pregnancy cravings!
