Newborn and baby advice

Hi ladies

so the new child act wont allow for orphans to visit out anymore. I tried asking my neighbour if I can 'borrow' her baby ( ) and she said I must come with the granny or she'll try leave work earlier and come along.

I'm a bit disappointed as I have been there for her since her pregnancy, bought her a camping cot, car seat, medications the baby can use, clothing, nappies etc etc.
i supplied the food for the baby shower too.
she calls me at all hours of the night to come check the baby and usually it is such a minor thing like a blocked nose..

anyway i guess it's her baby and her choice.
so des, she may come with - sorry!!
i guess it will be a bit awkward as she doesnt know anyone!

Hi ladies,
Well it was icy cold last night in JHB! How are you all coping with your babies in this weather? Last night after Connors bath, I dressed him in his cozy big pj's with leggings underneath, and a beanie! This with his heater on and the monitor only registered 19• in his room, I wonder how cold it would have been without the heater? Anyway, after his feed and bath he thankfully had a good nights sleep, so I'm thinking he was nice and snug!

@Claudia - the ladies in your group sound totally bonkers, if I were able to have exclusively breastfeed Connor I would have carried on for as long as possible! Good for you!!

@ScribblinGal- I'm not sure about the formula - I never re-used the leftover milk, I always made a new bottle - I read that you should not re-warm leftover formula milk - but who knows, I agree, its sucky to waste!

@ Scribblingal - I think you may be talking bout me:) I'm using cloth nappies. Its going fine, I have myself into a routine and I figure I've already saved myself probably about 300 disposable nappies, so thats making me feel better about the massive outlay - I'm using mother nature nappies which were R105 per nappt and I have 16 of those and then 8 normal square nappies (for when I run out). I wash every second day and it works out that I am doing 2 more washes a week than before I had james. I hand them out or on a dryer indoors because I dont have a tumble dryer( dont want one either they chew electricity). The wetwipes and liners that I use are flushable, so at each change he liner and wipe get flushed away and the nappy goes in a nappy bin waiting for a wash. When I go out I normally take one nappy with me, but I keep two disposables in my bag, so I can change once, but if he has a really poopy day I still have contingincys (the cloth nappies are bulky so its akward to take a lot out with you!

On another note I go to a moms group on a thursday, but I am thinking about stopping. I'm now the only one still breastfeeding and I cant believe how strange all the other moms think I am. Today I had sooo many comments directed at me about how its not easier and they think I'm crazy etc... never thought choosing to exclusively breastfeed would be contraversial at all!

as for the formula...i was helping with triplets who did exactly the same thing. sometimes only have 30ml and other times 100ml. so what the mom does is:

make a 120ml bottle. and they drink as they want every 3 hours. so they can have as much as they need but only get fed every 3 hours. the bottles are just closed with the lid and set aside for the next feed.

she use to store the bottles in the fridge but now it's winter it's too cold (as she doesnt want to warm bottles) so they just stay on the kitchen counter.

the little one sometimes only finished that 120ml after 3 feed, so 9 hours.
personally I feel that is too long.

if you are going to re-use formula, keep it in the fridge between feeds and do not keep it longer than 4 hours. that is my opinion. others say as long as it's in the fridge, it's fine for 12 hours.

I have a question for you ladies who are bottle feeding: Have you ever re-used formula? Because I'm topping up, sometimes Emily has 100ml and sometimes as little as 40ml. It seems like such a waste to throw away 80ml of formula and i'm so tempted to just keep it and feed it to her later... Does it tell you not to do that on the tin because they want you to use more...??

Also I distinctly remember one brave Moomie telling us that she had bought washable nappies. Who was that and how's it going? I'm dying to get some but am not sure if I could keep up with all the washing.

I seem to be struggling to get a baby for demonstration tomorrow so if I come babyless, someone will have to offer their baby!!
an it has to be a strong mommy that can endure a few moments of screaming/crying for the demonstration!

@Meags - Don't stress about if it will work for our babies or not! You can't do anymore than show us what you were taught, that's your job done! We all know babies are unpredictable and each one decides wether he/she likes something or not.

I think we'll all just enjoy getting together (and maybe a biscuit or two
