Newborn and baby advice

ScribblingAl I am so glad that things are slightly looking up for you!

Karla is not sleeping at all in the day! At night she is quite good, but in the day, nothing....

She has been awake since 8o'clock this morning... she HAS to sleep now!!!

Me and my mom are going to the baby expo tomorrow... I hope we get some specials on diapers though... and wipes... all I need and do we use a lot!!!

Emily is four weeks old. But has the lungs of a four year old. Yesterday was our second chiro session. She said that after the second session things would start getting better. I don't want to jinx anything, but Emily slept really well last night - about four hours at a time, so she's on about five-hourly feeds. Think it may be because I'm breastfeeding and then topping up with formula as I'm still not sure that she's getting much from me, but she really munches away at the bottle. I know that when you breastfeed babies are supposed to stop when they've had enough but do they do that with bottles too...?? Or else I just gave birth to Miss Piggy, because there's no stopping her.

Emily was slightly niggly this morning but it was such a pleasure compared to what we've been going through. AND she is SLEEPING now, hence me being online, yay! So we'll see how things go. Not counting any chickens yet. Third chiro appointment tomorrow and my first - back's taking strain from having to hold her for hours on end. I swear, if this works, I'm making appointments for all of you

Shame Scribbling , can't imagine how tired you must be.I really hope she settles and that both of you can get some sleep.

Des , would be nice to go with you tomorrow.Just let me know what time you would like to meet up , Jac and then we can maybe meet you there as well.I love looking at all the stuff you get for babies.

Jac , it must be the season then.I feel so stupid now had a major blonde moment I've got a humidifier but forgot about the thing and never enev thought of it.Will start using it from tonight maybe that will help. I am currently using those Bennets nose drops to loosen the stuff and I pour half a capsule of Karvol on her blanket.

Well Liebe is sleeping so I'm gonna have a bit of me time and spend time on my addiction...the internet.

I was wrong about the dummy - the one Lia sometimes takes is a Pigeon one. I just like the idea of her taking it when she has winds because sucking can help relieve them... pity she doesn't always want to take it... but I keep offering!

Ok guys, it is probably just a fluke but after niggling and hardly sleeping from 5 - 10 last night she slept until 2am. Her last feed was 8pm so that is a 6 hour between feeds spacing.. considering she was feeding 2 hourly through the night last week or something, that is impressive yay.

Nicky - when I was telling my doc that Lia's nose is still snotty after her cold - he looked and said that the infection is basically gone so it is probably just seasonal stuffiness. He said that babies born around this time often spend the beginning of autumn with a stuffy nose. He said it is pretty normal and as long as she feeds well and can breath it is fine. He recommended saline and sterimar for babies (which is saline but squirts up the nose so can loosen yucky stuff) and said if it gets really stuff you can use a humidifier. He said their nostrils are just so small so they don't cope well with so much snot.

Des, if you'd enjoy having your mom there.. have her over! Why not!!! I prefer my own space but all of us are different - I think you'd probably enjoy having her there, especially if hubby is away!

Sorry you had such a scrappy time Scribblingal.. those days make me want to rip my hair out. Grr. That is one thing I really regret with my son's birth - that I never took him to a Chiro - I hear it really can help a lot so I'm sure you will be seeing an improvement soon.. hang in there!!!

I also got free tickets to the expo- I am probably going to go on Friday though - will be there probably 10h30/ close to 11ish so my son can see Barney lol. He's never seen him on TV but we've read the books etc so I'm sure he'd love that.. then I can walk around there before/ after and see if there is anything worth looking at. Des, what time are you going tomorrow (or any other mommies) - if I change my mind and manage to get out tomorrow I can keep an eye out for you . I must actually put up a profile pic too.. just take note though guys.. whatever I put up may have extra under eye bags.. even though I've had a bit more sleep I still look exhausted haha.

I hardly do much tummy time with Lia at all - she does spend time on my chest though with me laying back as she prefers that. I take her from room to room, lay her on beds etc and change the scenery - let her kick around. I do let her do a bit of playgym and talk to her and shake rattle for her etc too, tickle her tummy or toes, play peek-a-boo.. but mostly she goes around to shops etc, or park with us... which she enjoys most of the time.

@ScribblingAl - sjoe, sounds hectic - does your little Emily have colic? How old is she now? Sorry that you've been having it so rough, hopefully the chiro sessions will start showing improvements and your sleep will get better! Good for you for making an appointment for yourself too, we often forget to look after ourselves - things can very quickly become all about baby baby baby and we forget that mommy needs tlc also!! Hope things get better soon!!

Desiree, the breastfeeding's going a bit better. Still topping up with formula and at the moment have no clue how much she's actually getting from the boob, but we'll keep on plodding along. At least the nipples aren't so sore anymore. It just takes so damn long because I have her feeding on both boobs at the moment, followed by the formula and I just don't know if I'm doing things right. I guess she isn't dying of starvation, so it can't be all that bad.

Emily slept for a whopping four hours the last 24 hours, so things are going a bit rough at the moment. We've been taking her to a chiropractor this week. Just came back from our second appointment and the doc seems to think that things should start getting easier. Really hope so as I don't think we would make it through another night like last night - it was hell. I booked myself an appointment on Friday. My back is killing me from holding her so long.
