No Lientjie, she doesn't drink the entire 40 mins. I laughed at your comment that you're not her dummy. I get so desperate to give her as much breastmilk as possible that I sit there for as long as I can take. Today is operation breastfeeding, so we'll see how things go. Thanks for all the advice, ladies.

Oh, wanted to add this - is she drinking the entire 40minutes? If you can't hear her swallowing, maybe rather take her of the breast? I've found that if my LG is still hungry, she'll start swallowing again as soon as I try to unlatch her. But otherwise: I am NOT her dummy!

@Bundle - she's 3.5 months. (sorry, wanted to change my ticker and then forgot to add the new one...)

@ScribblingAl - my LG bf one side for 5-15min, then I change her nappy and then it's 5-15min on the other side. At the last feed at night she usually takes 20min per side, with her bath in between. From the start of a session to the start of the next session, it's anything from 2.5 to 4 hours. She drinks 5 to 7 times in a 24hour period.

ScribblingAl - its good to hear that its going better for you now.

About the feeding time. Luke used to feed for atleast 20minutes, but for the past 2 weeks he has dropped down to 10-15minutes. I think he just sucks better now so getting in more milk.

If your breasts are producing enough milk then I'm sure you can try to stop the formula and just get her used to the breast only, feed her on both breasts, I'm sure you will come right once that routine has set in.

The sister at the breastfeeding clinic said they take the bulk of their feed in the first 10-15minutes. So she recommended feeding 10-15minutes on the 1 boob then switch over to the other boob.

Beansmom, were you looking for a chiro? We've been going to a really nice one, but she's in Joburg and I think you're in Cape Town, right? Emily's doing really well since going to the chiro. She's definitely a lot less colicky and more manageable now.

I've noticed that many of you ladies are on the west rand. Is there a municipal clinic nearby? I'm really close to Clearwater Mall, but I think the nearest clinic is in Roodepoort?

I have a breastfeeding question. It's probably a little late to ask now, but I'm still pretty new at it. How long do you ladies breastfeed for at a time? I'm still supplementing with formula and am thinking of trying to ditch the bottle, but on the other hand I'm enjoying the four hours between feeds - being a little lazy now. Emily currently feeds for anything from five minutes to 40 minutes on one boob. But after she's left both boobs she starts screaming about 20 minutes later, hungry again. At least the formula satisfies her.
