Newborn and baby advice

Hi there... Sorry to hear you are having a tough time... My first day home on Sunday was a total mare but after visiting our breastfeeding clinic here I seem to have got the hang of things!

They gave me a recipe for Jungle Juice which gives mom energy and also helps with the production of milk - so maybe you want to give it a go... I'm drinking loads of it and it works for me...

50ml Weleda Schelen Blackthorn Berry Elixer
1 litre Clear Apple Juice
2 litres Water
1 sachet Blackcurrent Rehidrat
(10 drops Herbaforce Rescue Remedy per glass) - this is not a must but good to help you relax!

It doesn't taste too bad and like i said it works for me...

Liebe's fever was gone this morning but it was 38.3 last night and she was so niggly. She woke at 11, 12 and 1.Felt so sorry for her.I gave her Calpol again for the fever , the nurse said I must give it to her every 4 hours but I only gane her at 12pm and then again at 9pm last night.It's really scary when they have a fever ,but you just have to rely on the meds and give lots and lots of love.

I gave her Calpol ,it's like the Panado syrup but tastes like strawberry. When you buy it they say it is not recommend before 3 months but the nurse advised me previously if you give a smaller dose there is no harm. So they say that you have to give a 3 month old 2.5ml and I just gave Liebe 1.5ml which is more than enough and hour before the time.

I'm so looking forward to the get together!!!

Oh my goodness, our little thread has been busy today, how friggin cool !!

Welcome Scribblingal! Not all the girls here are breastfeeding, some, like me, are bottlefeeding because the bf just did NOT go as planned!! I couldn't get Connor to latch, because my nipples were inverted, so I had to use nipple shields which, honestly, just stressed me out because they were so finicky!! Then, when I gave up on that and tried expressing, that all went horribly pear shaped, no matter what I tried, the expressing didn't go as planned and after 3 weeks of EMOTIONAL struggling, I gave up and switched to formula, I just didn't have a choice! I'm happy with my decision though, I'm doing well, Connor is doing well and that's all that's important! Whatever you do, good luck to you, and don't be too hard on yourself and please don't feel pressure to perform as this perfect picture of a mommy - do the best you can because that is good enough, and chat to us whenever you feel like it, we are all going through the same things!!

Jacadebra - I'm with you, we also had a bad sleep deprived night, after sleeping well until midnight, Connor woke up every 2 hrs...eeeek, I was sooooo tired!

Nicky - sorry about being sick, hope u guys feel better soon!! How is Liebes fever doing now? What did you have to give her for the fever? I must remember to have meds on hand for when Connor goes for his vaccinations, oi, not looking forward to that!!

Ladies, sooooo today was the big photo shoot and it was AWESOME!! Connor was like a real little pro-model, ha ha, acted like the perfect little baby, I was so proud of him!! I got to have hair and makeup done and clothing styled for me, he he, it was great, I felt very pampered!! The shots looked so cute and they are definitely going to print - apparantly, its for their August issue and its for the topping and tailing sectio of the Newborn guide!! They took a few other shots as well which might be featured in any upcoming issue, soooo, I will just have to buy every issue and check it out, if I see our pics, I will let you guys know!!

Ok girls chat again soon - and PLEASE let's arrange our get together, for all the new girls, I want to have a get together at my house in Randburg for all of us! It will be good to meet everyone, and have a nice relaxing lunch and drinks and just socialise - and because its at my house we can all just relax and feed our lo's when we need to, no stress involved, ha ha, it will be like a big old baby festival!!! Let me know if u have any free dates in May or June so I can get busy with the arrangements!

Bundle of joy , someone gave me this advice when I was still pregnant about bottle feeding. If you baby is feeding than share the feed , 5min on breast , 5 min on bottle and finish with 5 min on the breast again.Depending on how long you feed just devide that by 3. I'm not sure it it will help but it was advise given to me.

Pinky if you stuggle with the dummy , dip it in gripe water. Sometime Liebe cries and the she wont close her mouth when I give her the dummy as I soon as I dip it in the gripe water she closes her mouth and just suck away.

Jac , I seriously need to learn some songs . I know nothing. I wish I could sing to Liebe , I only get to Twinkle twinkle little star and then I don't know.

Gosh I have such a bad headache , think it is because I did not sleep well last night and got up early this morning.

Going to a fun fair tomorrow so no sleeping late for me again....

Its so great to read all your daily stories.

Luke is doing so well, he is 1 month today, think he may be going through a growth spurt cause his feeding routine has changed this week, its a bit over the place. Also seems like he is shortening his feed time, which is strange I thought he would want to feed for longer as he gets older, but maybe he is sucking harder so getting more milk in?

Have taken him on quite a few outings since his birth, he just sleeps through.

I need to introduce the bottle shortly as I am going to one of the soccer matches in June and he will need to be bottle fed (espessed breastmilk) by whomever is going to babysit him. Think I will try to give the bottle at 1 feed every now and then to get him used to it and hopefully it will work. I don't intend on stopping breastfeeding so am hoping he won't get confused, any ladies have advice?

Karla is so much easier today than she was yesterday!!!

At last I got her to suck her dummy... she has been struggling to suck it since she was born... she gags when it is in her mouth but now she gets it right!!! yeah!!! Now she can self soothe...

Scribblinal... I also had to have an emergency c-section and was extremely dissapointed... I know how you feel. Breastfeeding is definitely not the easiest thing to do and my nipples are still killing me, but I just persevere. Good luck with it and if it gets too stressed for you and you LO then it is not worth it. I agree, try eglonyl, I had friends who used it and it worked wonders. Also you get that Jungle juice that you make that can also help with the milk production! Good luck and strongs girl!!

Well as you see I wasn't on here last night cause I have a SICK HUBBY AGAIN... and Liebe got a fever from the injections and this freaking gland in my neck is so swollen and sore I can't even open my mouth to eat. We all felt sorry for ourselves and played sicky family.hehe Hope the stuff I got at the pharmacy will work.

Mommy 21 , glad you got out of the house , and I'm so jealous of you having your hair done.hehe. You'll feel great afterwards. Good luck with the moving ,I would have also gotten someone to pack , I would just not have enough energy to go through it.

Jac , I only burp liebe for about 2min then my arm start to pain.Hehe. Sometimes when I pick her up to burp her the burp will come out. As for in the middle of the night , well I lay down on back like in my sleeping position and I would just put Liebe on my tummy ,on hand rubbing her back and the other under her chin until something comes.I'm a very bad mother when it comes to the middle of the night.Thanks for telling me about the nappies , liebe is still on number 1 huggies but she growing really fast. If I close the nappy the two stickers touch each other so I think she is still ok.

Pinky , I'm glad the leaving her to cry from Baby Sense is working for Carla. I tried it with Liebe , left her to cry , then if she didn't stop gave her her dummy and left and she would just cry again. I eventually just gave up. As the baby gets older you will hear different cries , Liebe gives like a scream when she is sleeping and then just stops and then when she is tired she's got another cry so before I get up I will first listen and see how long the cry goes on before I will go to her.As for the sore nipples , have you tried to dry them , sometimes your boobies leak and it leaves the breast pad damp , try blow drying your nippels just a little bit or walk around top less in your house . I used to do it when I was still able to breasfeed.

Beansmom , wow your little girl is really growing. Congrats.I remembered how proud I felt when we first took Liebe to be weighed and she picked up weight.
