Newborn and baby advice

So last night, after bathtime, I normally give Connor a 50ml top up feed (it helps to settle him before bed time) anyhoo - so, everything went as per usual, bathtime was nice and I followed our normal routine! Then ...disaster, ha ha, instead of me feeding Connor his feed and settling him to sleep, hubby did it as he had not seen Connor all day and thought it would be nice! Anyway, not 10mins into the feed, something upset Connor and he just started crying - hubby didn't know what to do - I came and took over and in about 10mins Connor was all relaxed again and sleeping! Wtf?? Is it possible that Connor just wanted me to do the feed?? That he's used to me putting hime down for bed and not daddy??

Also, Connor seemed to feed less but more frequently during the night, 2 x 3 hour sessions and w x 2.5hr session - is there a growth spurt at around 6 weeks?

Welcome Pinky!!! It's normal for babies to sleep longer at night , you do not need to wake her.You are luck to have her sleep such a long stretch at night.We all wish for it.hehe

My nipples had this stinging pain when I breastfed and sometimes afterwards not sure if that is what you are talking about.I express all my milk so I did it from the day my milk came in , that was 2 days after Liebe's birth.

Jac , wow you are so lucky to get a smile , Liebe was six weeks on Tuesday and it doesn't seem to me like she wants to smile.I'll just wait patiently. I hope you have a better day than yesterday!!!

Des , I feed Liebe just before we go , so that she sleeps most of the time. At the shops I will prop up the bottle with a blanky and she will feed like that.I just watch her mouth every now and then as she messes a lot. If she's got wind I will take her out and burp her.

Ladies , we need to do the get together thing and not forget about it , it will also help with the cabin fever which we are all suffering from and meeting you all would be really nice!

Well I'm awake and worrying about liebe's vaccs today , I want to start crying now already. Seef is at work so I am going alone and I will probably have to hold her and watch the needle.Ahhh can't think about it now.

How much does your babies drink at night , Liebe only woke up at 03:45 (fell asleep 23:30) and had like 50ml and was happy to sleep again until 05:30 and then she had another 40ml , it's really weird , she's sleeping now so she can't be hungry , but she takes half of her feeds at night???

Hi ladies

I suppose this is the thread I should start chatting on as we all are new mommies with small babies!!

My LG is sleeping well, sometimes at night she doesn't wake up for 4 hours... I am not sure if I must leave her or let her sleep for that long... in the day she wakes up every 2 - 3 hours...

She is picking up weight really good, in our first week she picked up like 500 grams and weighed more than they normally weigh at the end of week 1, so that is probably a good sign that my milk is good and that she drinks enough!! We are going to weigh again on friday, then we'll see what has happened since.

How long does it take for your nipples to stop being so painful? She must latch on right because she gets enough milk... I use a nipple shield on my one side but not on the other... they say you must not use it too much other wise they will reject your breast... what do you ladies think? And when would you guys say is the best to start pumping out milk so hubby can also give some milk?

Jacadebra - you are sooooooo lucky to have Lea smile!!!! How old is she now? Connor will be 6 weeks on saturday,but he hasn't smiled yet!!!

Hi girls, Connor is having a nap so I have time to post!

Jacadebra, I also get grumpy when I don't get out - over the weekend, we went out for a bit everyday, we just dressed Connor snuggly, bundled him into his car seat and voila!! But, I guess when you have a sicky baby, its indoors time hey?

Question ladies - I've been out to shopping centres with Connor lots now, but always between feeds so that I can be home before he wakes up for his next feed. Have any of you had to feed your babys while out? Where do you do it? I'm bottle feeding so it should be easy, but it makes me a little nervous - how do you handle it? Also, I was at Clearwater shopping centre on the weekend, wow, what a stunning mother and baby changing room, I didn't use it, just checked it out!

Hubby is on his way back from CPT as we speak...he just went for the day, yay, I get to have him home tonight!!

PS Lia gave me two big open mouth smiles today while wide awake (not those usual asleep ones which people say are due to gas lol). I almost melted... too darn cute. Have to try and get her to do it again though!

Hello Ladies.. I've been a bit grumpy thus avoiding posting. Still been reading when I have a gap or free hand lol. I think I'm also grumpy because I've got a bit of cabin fever as I haven't left the house in DAYS due to cold weather and Lia's nose.. so yeah.. need to get out a bit SOON.

Mommy21 - I also found the newborn woolies stuff fitted the best as my girl was also small 2.82 - but she has already outgrown them!!! She is in some of her other newborn stuff but she doesn't fit into the woolies stuff.. can't straighten her legs. It is amazing how quickly they grow! I haven't had her weighed in ages but she is definitely way over 4kg's already.. and she's 5 weeks old!!

Nicky - speak to them at the clinic - hopefully she is gaining weight at least. They should have some advice for you. I have no clue. Maybe it is the formula.. hopefully not reflux or anything more serious. My girl is spitting up a bit too (not that much though) - but it is just with winds... drives me dilly though because my son wasn't really a puker and lia HATES having her clothes changed.. she screams. Oi vey lol. Sorry that sleep sucked so badly.. babies really are unpredictable.

Des, the 6 week injections is the old schedule.. that my son had.. now they have the 8 week schedule but I don't think it is rolled out everywhere yet. The govt also covers some of the vaccines at some places - if not you are in for a R1600 bill or something at 8 weeks.
I also feel like I'm eating a ton today.. amazing how I still manage to stuff my face with one free hand when Lia is in my arms.. lol.

Ooops got to dash again... Lia is calling and the dinner I'm trying to cook for tonight (while my toddler sleeps) might be burning.
