Newborn and baby advice

@Des - thanks, she's changing by the day at the moment! I'm definately up for a get-together, what about a saturday morning breakfast or visit to the botanical gardens? Would also love to see Connor, he is geniunly one pretty little boy!

@Claudia - She has slept much better until thursday a week ago. One night it just all suddenly changed (even though we were sticking to the same routine). If I look at the list there are quite a few that I can check, but not all, so maybe I should wait. The other option would be to start topping up with formula, but my thinking was that if the solids works out I will never have to give her formula. But I think that might be a better option. OK, change of plan. From next week I'll start topping her up with formula and see if she sleeps better, until she seems a bit more ready to eat.

@Pinky - have you started topping up with forumula yet? And how's it going?

I think BLW is cool, I just don't get why some people feel so strongly about it, maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I have to read the book to understand. In my mind eating shouldn't be a issue eather way, so I'll be taking the path of least resistance.

@Adri - oh my goodness, Kara is so gorgeous - I can hardly believe how much shes changed since that very first get together at my house - aaaaaaah!! well done Mommy! we really should get together again, so we can all see eachothers babas again!!

@Claudia - lol, if I go through your checklist, and I answer it from Connors point of view, all I can say is yes yes and yes again, he he - and I can definitely see that now that Connor is 6 months he is "enjoying" the food - and the new textures

We're going away to Clarens for the weekend, can't wait! Im also going to be trying some yogurt and avo for Connor this weekend. I must admit I made a booboo last Friday, gave Connor a finger biscuit, really to see how he did with hit....and although he devoured it, it was defs too much sugar for him and he was restless for the rest of the night - a sugar rush perhaps? So..no more sugar, lol - well, let me not say ever, but certainly not soon, he he

@ Adri, has your Lo ever slept through??? These are the signs that I was given on being ready for solids:
Does your baby watch you with eager anticipation when you eat? Maybe he even opens his mouth, or tries to grab your spoon? Besides making you feel guilty as you enjoy your dinner, this behaviour indicates that he may be ready for solid food.
Does your baby seem hungrier than usual, appearing dissatisfied after his usual milk feeds? Once you've ruled out teething or illness as possible causes, you may find that he needs something a little more substantial to satisfy his growing appetite!
Is your baby waking at night after previously sleeping through? Or, if he was waking at night anyway, is he now waking more often? This can be a sign that he's ready for solids. And it's very tempting to get baby started on solid foods so that he'll settle at night and "sleep like a baby"! (Where did that expression ever come from?) But be careful! He may be waking more often due to teething, or some other discomfort. If you introduce solid foods too early, it can have the opposite effect on your baby to the one you seek. His immature digestive system may not be able to cope. This can mean an upset tummy for him ... and even more sleepless nights for you!
Can baby sit well, without support? This will make swallowing easier. Not all babies are able to sit unsupported at this stage, though. So it's important that you provide the proper support when feeding, if this is the case.
Does your baby have good head control? This is important, so that your baby can turn his head away to refuse food.

I've decided to do the babyled weaning thing so not really going with them, but I do know that solids do not end night wakings...

I know that expressing is hard, but kudos to you for doing it:) I'm so glad that I dont have to:)

The carseat i have says 8 kg. but im not using it yet, want to get the most out of the little one. and i feel she is growing up 2 fast and dont want to move her to the big seat.

@Des - they are supposed to sit in a rear-facing seat for a year!! Don't know how Kara will fit in hers for after another 8 months though, she's already filling it up.

And about all the types and brands, I know what you mean!! I think I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Hi Ladies

So good to see pics of your little ones growing up and meeting milestones!! They are all so georgeous!

Kara is turning 4 months on Saturday and is starting to become a real madam with big smiles! She weighs 6.8kg and is quite strong...can't wait for her to sit!

Breastfeeding still going strong - at a cost- I have to sit in a stationary room at work to express . She's not sleeping very well at the moment, so I might start her on cereal or veg in a couple of weeks, I can't see any harm (got the babysense feeding book and they reckon anything from 17 weeks). Not sure if she's quite ready, but won't push it, if it doesn't work I'll stop and try again in a few weeks.

Still finding it hard to be back at work, miss her SO much in the day!! I'm busy compiling a little video about our journey so far, will post it on fb once I'm done.

I've been thinking about the car seats!! Connor weighs a ton in the car seat and carrying it is Missiosn Impossible - and I also think that he dislikes it because its rear-facing, althought I know this is safest for now. From what age/weight are the forward facing car seats to be used from? And..have you seen how expensive they are? and there are like a million to choose from, I wouldnt know where to start, honestly!
