Newborn and baby advice

FYI I bought some nappies at Dischem yesterday for R99 - the orange Pampers ones- there were 78 in the bag. they seem to be ok. Just waiting for a poo to see if they hold.

@Claudia_B - Shame girl, good luck!! Sometimes nothing really helps with these things except waiting it out. Hope he gets better soon!

Sigh, James seems to be on the mend. It started on Monday afternoon when all of a sudden he seemed snotty, tuesday he seemed more bunged up and then he started feeling like he was running a temp on tueday night (but my thermometer sucks, its doesnt ever beep to say is reached max which it is supposed to, so I never know if its reading right, plus it was 41 deg on tuesday so I also though it might be that. I gave him some panado anyway:) His chest has been clear...
I have been using karvol, sterimar nasal spray, nebulising with hypotonic saline, and making him sit in the bthroom with me when I shower (for the humidity because I dont have a humidfier (didnt think I needed one in durbs)). Yesterday I went to the clinic so that they could accurately take his temp and maybe suggest what else I could do. He did have a very low grade fever - not enough to worry about going to the doc about, so I gae him more panado and the clinic gave me a natural mucolytic cough mixture to help with the phlegm. Hes much better today, although still snotty, he seems to be breating easier and stuff seems looser so hopefully I'll start to get some more sleep again:)

Claudia - shame it's horrible when they're sick. Have you tried eucalyptus oil in a cup of just boiled water or the humidifier? I found that helped my James a bit.

ScribblinAl that pic is so cute. My clinic told me to give J his cereal at 5/5.30 roughly an hour before bedtime routine starts and when he's neither starving nor dogtired. Start with 2tsp and make it the texture of yoghurt. Also I finger fed him rather than using a spoon in the beginning. He's now on the spoon and raking it like a pro

Bronz - haha chunky monkey! That's brilliant! Well he's tall - 68cm so the right height for his weight but he does look like a little Buddha. I will try put up a pic but I'm moomi'ing from my phone so dunno if it'll work.

Hi there ladies,

After losing my loooong post the other day I was a bit disheartened, here I go again!! This time I'll make sure to copy the text before I submit...just in case.

Let's start to try to get a date for the breakfast, what about Saturday 9 October(or Sunday the 10th - if it would be better for ScribblingAl?, don't know how the rest of you feel about a Sunday morning get together?)

@Claudia_B - I think you were right about the reverse thingy (can't remember what you called it ) as the sleeping problems started when I went back to work and she started having the bottle more in the daytime! My MIL now offers her the bottle more often and persists a bit longer if she doesn't take it all in the day and viola!! - for two nights she has only woken up once now!!!

ScribblingAl, I actually know that she's not ready for solids yet, I just thought as it's either top up with formula or solids I can just as well go straight to solids. I don't have anything against formula AT ALL (I've got a tin ready in the cupboard), I just thought going to solids is sort of like cutting out the middle man Also, I'm very excited to start playing around with food and seeing her reaction. But I guess it's about her and not my pleasure!! So I'll give it another month or so. I also feel a bit pressured by my mother in law staying with us (2 weeks to go), she started my husband on solids at two months (yes TWO!!!) against medical advice cause she reckoned he was still hungry after feeds and I feel that she thinks it's my own fault that Kara doesn't sleep well as I don't feed her properly...or all of this might just be in my mind...maybe she's not even judging me at all and I'm just being paranoid. But hopefully she's back to sleeping like a baby and all my problems are a thing of the past! Emily is SO cute (with the book and the carrot). Keep the photies coming, they light up my day!

@Bronz. WOW, donating milk, that is a very kind thing to do! I express at work so I know what hard work it is, and how selfish I am about every drop that comes out. I agree with ScribblingAl - Bravo! Greame is such a happy baby, I have to drag every smile out of Kara...what can I do to get her smiling more? LOL..that just sounds ridiculous doesn't it?

Ladies who've started cereal, how the heck do you do it? We tried last night - it went ok but I had so many questions. Do you sterilise the bowl and spoon? What sort of consistency is it? How much do you make? Do you mix it with formula? What a palaver!

Finally!! I havent been able to get into Moomie the whole day, grrrr

1st Timer - wow, what a big boy you have!! well done Mommy.

@Scribbling - your little Emily is just too precious - love that little look in her face - that carrot is toast!!
