Schatsie - They do put oxytocin in your drip but this has other benefits like contracting uterus etc. If I remember correctly you already have colostrum, which is all that baba needs. My mature milk came in later on that first day, which is very soon. Even the nurses were surprised. This isn't always great as the babas digestive system is still immature at birth and it is easier to digest colostrum. So you may pick up a bit of wind on day 2 or 3 (in baba) but it is just that - YOU DO NOT HAVE A COLICKY baby. Sorry talking from experience here. They made me drug Tessa when I didn't need to! She is right as rain and winds herself now and does not have colic as the paed told me!
Remember they remove the placenta so your body knows to start making new hormones and that you are not pregnant anymore. Your body knows what to do, go with it! Best of luck you are going to be a star Mommy!

Ai Anje - Strongs girl - got no idea how you must feel, but please don't just go for a c-section. Hang in there - try induction or stretch and sweep before just booking a c-section. Thinking of you!

Schatsie and Rakker - I so feel for you ladies wanting it to be over, I was also so gatvol by the end. Having a baba is soooooo much more fun (and all the other stuff) that having a huge heavy gut

Tazzy - Well done girl. That is one super tum. You must be so pleased DH is nearly home. How is Hannah, better? That must have been awful to cope with on your own. Must be cold up your way, even nippy here .......... loving it though!

Betty - How is M now? Shame all these sick munchkins. Good luck for your gynae visit.

Emsmom - Kate sounds like a dream. Well done on the weight gain. I hope your head cold clears really quickly.

Kimika - I am also going the gov route. Whoop whoop for the growth spurt. Just a question? I had heard that giving formula during a growth spurt extended it, is this true? So much info and one never knows what is right.

Afm - Tessa had her first check up on monday with the midwife. (doing this part privately) Tessa has gained back her weight in 10 days and apparently it is usually 14 days so I am so happy that she is growing nicely. I can see how chubby she is getting though. I am sure she is a little squint but the midwife couldn't see. She wasn't too worried and said I can have it checked at about 6 months. Poor angel! Well got my last laser today, it has made a difference if anyone else is suffering and med aid has paid in full. My munchkin gave me 4 hours and then 2 hours sleep last night so I feel like a new person. This is even more sleep than when I was preggers!! Whoop whoop
Getting Dad round this arvie to do some newborn pics, so I have been raiding the house for ideas and blankets and cushions etc. Hope Tessa will be nice and floppy after a feed for us!!

He he Schatsie no they dont inject you with anything to bring on the milk. I know most c-section mommies just produce milk - must be that you body realize there's no baby in your tummy anymore. I didn't produce milk, but I think it was more due to stress - my boobs went super small and I pumped every 3 hours for Callum but couldn't get more than 20ml out at a time. I only started getting milk after they've put me on medicines which I took until Callum came home.

I can imagine how anxious you must be to meet your baby and if doctor say today is D-Day I will be happy with you - can't wait for another baby to be born. And I still remember holding Kayla for the time - the first time you hold your own baby is just the most amazing feeling - I couldn't stop staring at this little being that was mine. Was on such a high - and I really enjoyed it - even tough I was a single mommy at the time - it was all just perfect.

Your mom must be so excited for you hey? Do you have brothers and sisters?

Hi ladies,

sorry can't catch up, we had trouble with our internet connection the last two days, I had some brownish redish discharge yesterday morning, but that could probably be from the internal, I had some strong BH and cramps yesterday as well, but all gone this morning.

I am feeling a bit down and disappointed today and I am finally feeling very ready for her to come. I am actually thinking of a c-sect. Will see what dr says on Friday if L is not here yet.


PS: Kimika, just saw the phodies on fb, I am in awe, everything looked amazing and very original.

Phew, you were quite busy online since last night - nice to get such a lot of posts so early in the morning!

Emsmom sorry that you also have this head cold, it really is not fun! I was planning to spend my ML relaxing and doing very little, but now I really can't anything.

Joli, I completely understand what you and Emsmom are saying about baby having to be in ICU - it really does not make for the ideal birth experience if you can't hold your baby immediately or even for a day or more! I remember Meags was also upset cause she was told not to touch her baby in NICU, it must be horrible!! But on the other hand, dr telling me that he MIGHT do my c sec today is like waving this HUGE carrot in front of a donkey.

Misty and Betty, can't wait to hear what your gynaes say today! Misty I'm SO with you on having waited for this baby since I was a teenager - it has been a very long 20 year wait!! I will never forget the day I did the home PT and had to tell my BF the huge news, followed by the lab blood test the next day! It was such a long wait for the results and then when we got there they said something was wrong, so I was SO upset thinking it meant I wasn't pregnant after all. Turns out my HCG count was just very high so they had to send it away for further tests and we had to go back again later.

Betty, I've had high BP for the last few yrs and have been on meds for it for a few years, so I always thought that I might have problems with it with pregnancy. My gynae put me on new meds the moment I found out I was pregnant and it has been perfect all along. In fact, I probably jinxed by saying to my husband the other day that I'm surprised how well I have been throughout my pregnancy.

OK, so here's a stupid question from a 1st time mommy to be to those of you who had C sections: if you have a C sec, how does your body know to start producing breastmilk? Since there is no oxytocin surge to start the labour, it's also not there to trigger the milk production. Or do they inject you with Oxytocin?

I actually had a fairly good night's sleep - not too uncomfortable and my cold is feeling a little better today. I phoned my mom last night to tell her about my BP and that they need to be on standby just in case. Shame, she got soooo excited, said she was probably not going to get any sleep last night.

So I'm off to the gynae at 1h45 and will keep you posted on what dr decides. I've never been in 2 minds about anything as much as I am about today's outcome.

Quick post - got so much editing to do and it's the perfect weather today to just sit and edit!

Tazzy - sjoe girl - you've got nothing to complain about! Your tummy is so flat and the 'roll' which is nowhere to be seen is probably just from the pregnancy and not the c-section. With each child your tummy takes a bit longer to go flat (if at all). I think I will need to really work hard to get a flat tummy.

So many gynae appointments today - can't wait to hear all the news!

Schatsie hang in there girl. I agree with Em's Mom - you don't want your baby out before he is ready. When in ICU you've got limited contact and it's not nice seeing them there and feeding so long after the birth etc. OK I got to feed Callum only 2 weeks later, but I think even 48 hours later is still not ideal. And the worst for me was that when Callum was taken out, he was whisked off to ICU immediately and I could only see him the following day!

Callum got his 6 weeks injection at 10 weeks and must now go back when he is 14 weeks for the next one. He was misluk afterwards and moaned the whole night. Had fever as well, so I had to give him Calpol 3 times during the night. He was fine the next day. We went private as I didn't still feel like finding a clinic after waiting for the paeditritian who then couldn't see me and I was also scared that the clinic would give me trouble as he was already 10 weeks. Went to the chemist to buy the stuff which was R750 and thought that's not too bad but then about 3 days ago, got an email from Discovery - the amount has been adjusted and the total cost was R1350 - I called and they said the chemist put through a wrong code for one of the vaccines! You girls see the luck I've got with suppliers, paperwork etc. etc. ??!! So yip, that's what the first jabs cost us. Scary!

Callum got 2 injections only - one in each leg - 2 nurses - on on each side and they do it together so it's over and done with. He had to sit on my lap .

Cath - we waited an hour to see our paeditritian and then she had to go out to an emergency - and I had all 3 the kids with me! I was pissed to say the least. She did call to apologise afterwards. I can understand the emergency but I was upset because I got there for my 11h00 appointment and she was running late and only went out at 12h00 for the emergency. When I made the appointment I was told 11h00 is the first appointment, but there were 2 people before me. Argh man, so ya Callum never got the see her either.

Ya I can understand that my client wanted me there, but like DH said - it's not a safe place and really - what was I supposed to do - just leave the car there and try sort it out in the rain after 5 on a Sunday? DH waited by the car once he got there with Callum and he had to wait nearly 2 hours for a tow truck to come and tow the car. Still waiting to hear from the insurance.
