Schatsie and Cath - My understanding of the whole spinal/ epidural thing is firstly no eating or drinking as nausea and upchucking are still common side effects and they can't have you doing that on the theatre table for obvious reason. The spinal involves a local anaesthetic to numb the area and this is all you should feel. Then the spinal is an injection into your spine where they have numbed with a thin needle. The spinal works within a few minutes and wears off after an hour or 2. The epidural is done via a catheter into your spine. So you still get the local jab to numb the area they then use a needle to get into the spine. They remove the needle but a soft catheter stays behind and there is a continuous drip of the anaesthetic into the spine. This takes a lot longer to work, at least half an hour (which is why it is sometimes too late for the natural ladies to have it done!) it also stays in your system for a lot longer ..... I think 6-8 hours.
Now some anaesthetists prefer just a spinal to cover you for the op, but some like to mix the 2 so you are covered a bit longer for post op pain.
I have never heard of just an epidural c/s (not to say it doesn't happen) I just haven't come across it. I think there is a higher chance of partial anaesthetising with epidural, ie left side numb but not the right. Which I would not want in the case of a c/s.

With the research I have done I am definitely having a spinal and I will take the anaesthetists recommendations whether to add an epidural or not.

Oh and I also found out that you will feel everything .... so expect that and don't be freaked out by it. You will not feel pain, it will not hurt but you will feel tugging and movement in your belly etc. I have made peace with that.

Wow sorry for the long essay, hope it helps though.

Karin - How is this for coincidence? I had to run into pick n pay hyper for something today and I ran past the clothing dept and a table that was stacked with tops on!!! They are perfect tops to go with my gym pants. They are thin called tissue cotton. They have V necks and a whole lot of press studs down the front to make BF even easier. R79. They come in about 6 or 7 different colours. Oh the sleeves are 3/4 but it is so soft and thin and easy to push up. So any ladies still looking for tops ........

Emsmom - I am egging the next 2 and a half weeks on so I can be term. :P

Meags - I am sure they are not that bad, I'll go have a look. Need to go get supper on now though!

Sorry for short personals. I'll try come back later and catch up. Lovely weekend to all

AnjeD - yes return those ugly pjs LOL!! I also bought an ugly pair at edgars which i took back after DH said that the poor baby would be embarassed by its mother from day1!

CathM - woud have made the same decision re C section if I got the same news re cord  WOW......MONDAY!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: last weekend of freedom ever (well for about 18 years!) enjoy it!

Fawhaway...Great! 12.30 it is then (will post about it later in thread!). Wow its always great getting freebies! Got a huge bag myself from my moms friend (who had a whole lot of her grandkids stuff). It was so exciting opening it all!

Meags....hope the kitties are a bit mnore settled...ya know the horrors of kitty up tree! WHen ours were littel kittens I would freak out when they went up a tree...was so scared they would fall out! How stupid re battery! I would be mad!!!! TY for keeping us updated with Kaylae...sounds like she is having a tough time with family, glad you are there for her on FB! Re placenta - GROSS   :S

Emsmom - thank you...all better again now. Weird it has only been 1 day a week the last 3 weeks....hope that no more now i AM SICK OF MS!

LucyW - yay re negitive test!! Enjoy your weekend with your friend :)

BettyF - enjoy U2! I saw them in 94 and the thought of going to a concert at 30 weeks needing the loo all the time was a bit off putting....Hope the weather is kind to you! Great that 12.30 suits you!

Claire...lovely pics - thank you for sharing!!

KarinM - hop eyou get good news re house! HAve also been sleeping so badly...funny only during week! Weekends when i do not have to go to work no problems! You are also looking really big and nice and round !:)

wow...you girls have been chatting up a storm! 4 pages of catch up....

Schatsie...dont blame DH! I would not want my boy to drink out a pink bottle! No we ate going next saturday to the one at Milnerton...tyhey smsed me the day after i emailed you! Sorry should have said! Looking frowared to it...hope the goodie bags are as good as they were at netcare! Glad you are feeling a better. Best you did not go to work today! Congrates on 30 weeks!!!! I am exactly 1 week ahead :)

Joli - wow you are a busy lady!!! CAnt wait to see the cake pics! And thank you for the info re birthying clothes! True what you say about the not caring who sees u! MOm always tells me that when she was in labour with me at the end she did not care if the postman or the news channel cam ein and filmed her upclose to put it on th enews....she just wanted me out!

AnjeD - you so right about maternity PJs...they do have them overseas...wish easily available here! Think it was Karin or Betty who said they had from a previous pregancy. Wonder if they got it at a special maternity shop? LOL...ya lets dirty the hopsital gown instead!

KarinM - ya have also got a similar set up re Mr Price sports and also a nice set I found at woolies. Good idea re training bra....think i will be a lot more comfy with my 38D's out the way while i am running around the labour ward (or probably more like crawling!). And yes I seem to have the same soreness you talking about "down there". I have also noticed I AM A LOT MORE "PUFFED UP" (as DH said the other day when he was appling my perineal gel "OMG you should see the size of your clitoris!" Sorry WTMI!!!). Even with the perineal gel been applied (bty a lovely product from motercare bump and beyond range at woolies) i also seem to be a little "sore and burning" when we in that area so think that things are diffentely happening there! (hope non of you are reading this whil ehaving breakfast!)

ok posting before I loose this...will continue afetr a loo break!!

ok had another look...they arent THAT bad...but I am still disappointed.
if anyone is interested you can look:
www.stephanieanders.com
then go to the proofing tab at the top and the password is meagan

ok so some personals:
BettyF - my kitties are doing fine! I have not let them out today yet - but I will. They need to smell the garden often so when they do escape, they know where to come back to!
I am sitting at home waiting for the TV to be delivered...I left the front gate unlocked so surely they will come in and knock on the door instead of just leaving it out there??? we can only hope!!

Claire - your 4d pics are so cute!!!!! precious little foot!

Tazzy - signs of labour:
Mucous plus (but can come out 2 weeks before the time and is not a sign to go to hospital)
waters breaking (go to hospital)
diarrhoea (not a sign to go to hospital - but body is cleansing and preparing)
contractions (generally go when they are 5-10 mins apart. but since you are having a c-section, if your contractions are regular, go to hospital)

KarinM - the battery did arrive in a box...but the delivery people dont even know what was in there, so they shouldnt have just thrown it over the wall!!!
your tummy has definitely dropped - no wonder you feeling funny in your vjayjay!
good tip about the lukewarm bath - problem is there was no plus for the bath!!!!! so I went and bought one yesterday and will bath once the bloody TV has arrived.
enjoy your baby shower!!!! and any news on the offer for the house?

Cath - the maternity photographer gave me details for a masseuse so I'll definitely be going soon. we are still waiting for the company to reimburse us some money so at the moment I cant spend money on luxuries like that though!
the weather here is weird!! it's either really hot, or it's cool. and yesterday it rained. I'd say its very similar to Durban - humid!
I am sure Miami beach is pretty - but we dont live there. the area we live in is not very pretty. well even driving around, most of the areas are not that pretty! it's weird...
as for the food - well we have only eaten at restaurants twice and the food was good. otherwise I just cook - and thats not so good! hehe
I was suppose to meet with some mom's today but it has been postponed for 2 weeks. but I am hoping to meet another group next week sometime.
your DH should be allowed in theatre. he will have to wear the theatre scrubs.

schatsie - yip it seems the cord around the neck was the cause of Tshami's passing. Kaylae says the nurse definitely said 2.9kg, but I am almost certain she meant 1.9kg. because all of Kaylae's scans said the baby was measuring up to 2 weeks behind sometimes so I don't think she had gestational diabetes.

Carla1 - welcome back! you look great in your picture :) as for the hospital bag...I'm 35 weeks (almost) and still havent packed mine :p

Anje - L is a nice weight! since we have the same due date, I am just going to assume Matt is somewhere around the same weight since I have no more scans!

EmsMom - enjoy your photo shoot tomorrow!!!!!
