well using the ebm was a disaster.
now he wont take the formula again.....AAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGG
so no more ebm until I get back from overseas. in the meantime I have found someone to donate the milk to that will expire while I'm away. her child has spinal muscular atrophy. so feel good that its going to a good cause!!!!!
anyway some facts on ebm...
the soapy smell does not mean it is off/sour. it generally means one has a high lipase content in their milk (the enzyme that breaks down fat).
it is fine for the baby to drink this. there is no harm. just that some babies wont drink it because of the taste.
when defrosting ebm...
run under COLD water and gradually increase the temp of the water so that once its defrosted, it is warm to drink. if some of it is to go back into the fridge, then do not warm all. so defrost totally in cold water.
it most likely will get that soapy smell after 4 hours...so best to use the ebm within 4 hours of defrosting.
best way to defrost and prolong the time that the milk wont taste soapy is to defrost in the fridge over night.
now had I know ALL this....i would have rather frozen my milk in portions sizes according to his feeds....instead I have made each back like 200ml. so it means I am going to be spending my days defrosting milk. initially I thought I would just calculate how much he needs in a day and take all of it out and defrost then keep in the fridge. but now that I know it starts tasting soapy after 4 hours...well it means I'm gonna have to defrost before each feed. WHAT A PAIN!!!!!! AAARRRGGGGG. makes me kind of want to just give it all away
