Hi ladies - iv'e missed out on sooooo much here!!!

I'm going to try and catch up on everything...hehe al 30 odd pages

How're things going here???

Mama and baba are doing great!Had an appointment on 16 August and all was good, baba measured 9weeks on the dot although my calculations set age at 9w5d..so hopefully by next scan on 13September he/she will have caught up in the growing department...
And finally the bloatedness and sick/nauseous feeling in the afternoons have started to dissapear - jippeee!!!!!

Furthermore all's well on this side of the world...I remember someone asking me where Mafikeng is....well...Mafikeng is a smallish town 20kms from the Botswana border near Potchefstroom (2hrs drive) and Rustenburg (2hrs drive) and about 3hrs drive from JHB towards the west....hope it helps!?

Hi girls

Wow Mistymom, seems like things are going great on that side :) REally hope you get that good job with nice pay!!! When will you hear??

Meags, ah man thats a bit of a mess with the whole US thing :( And even if you go after birth, at what time is it ok to fly with a newborn?? And those damn flights are sooo long that hubby cant even jump on a flight as soon as you go into labour! But dont worry too much now, Ive found that these things work themselves out over time!

I think the first year of marraige is about adapting to your new life... remember you now have two totally different personalities trying to co-esist in a household.. and the romance kinda moves out the door, so all this combined just make it interesting times. I believe the first 3yrs of any relationship is the hardest :)

Joli, as for the downs, it needs to be done between 11 and 13 wks. They will do the nuchal measurement, thats where they measure the thickness of fluid in the skin at the base of the neck.. or something like that.. with downs babies there are lots of fluid there so you want that measurement to be as small as possible. Also they check that the nasal bone is forming well, with downs babies the nose is very flat, so you want to see a pointy nose :) Then they do the bloods at the same time. It picks up hormones in your system only present in downs babies. The blood results together with the measurement gives your risk.. that part where they say you have say 1:300 chance. They also take your age into account with the risk.

The scan at 20 - 22wks is the anomoly, where they check the organs like the development of the heart, brain chambers, diapraghm, bladder etc etc. With ours you could even see his little eyebals :)

So Maryke will most likely do the measurement on Saturday but I think you need a gynae referral for the bloods, and without the bloods they cannot determine the risk. But ask her on Saturday, maybe she will say that if the measurement is low you wont need to go for bloods?

Enjoy your scan tomoz :) Dont worry bout the english man, Im sure you will be fine, your english is good! And if you really battle Im sure they will understand some afrikaans words!

Rakker, then Congrats is in order!!! hehe.. going off the pill too early :) sneaky ;) Ill add your date as the 28th April to our list!! Our kiddies are a month apart (first ones). I remember you from the March mommies group.. and I remember now he was born earlier :)

Wow we are practically at the end of the Edds for our groupie.. but I do hope we get some more mommies over time!

Cath, ahhh Im so glad your feeling so well :) Welcome to the *honeymoon period* hehe

Ok speaking of honeymoon period.. mine is not going so great ;) My libido is on a all-time low  Poor hubby! And now that heartburn is with me at night its even worse! Was the same with last pregnancy.. why do some women get so lucky as to have peaked libidos??!!!!

Shols, why dont you just go ?? A lot of ladies go just for the fun, I mean you want to have kids sometime dont you?? Just say your planning to get preggie soon and want to start getting a feel of whats in the market.. and then in a few months time just say you didnt even know you were pregnant at the time! (works everytime) hehe

Have a great Friday!!

hey, I wanted to ask and forgot . . .

Im from durban and i know a lot of u ladies are from jhb and capetown but was just wondering if there is anybody that is going to the baby expo this weekend?
Ive heard its going to be a good one.

I would love to go - but unfortunately since i haven't told anybody about the pregnancy - it makes having to go a little difficult for me.
Ive already heard that a friend of mine that had her baby about 3 months ago is going and a friend from work who is planning a baby would also like to go so now im more afraid of going and having to clash with them and then explain :( abit disapointed.

Hello lovely ladies

Good to read all your news! Sorry for those struggling with their dh's all I can say is to thine own self be true.

I don't believe in generalisations about men i.e. men are spoilt, it's 'normal' to be emotionally unavailable, come home late, be inconsiderate and selfish. It's not normal. You don't have to kick and hit someone to be abusive.

We all know what it feels like deep down to be loved and cherished and respected, and we all know what it feels like to be not. If it's not happening either you feel you deserve less than, or you don't - and if you don't you take action. I am happy to see the ladies in this situation taking action.

For those with ms - I am now 13 or 14 wks - Meags, you asked what Maryke said, she said 12 wks 3 days last Sat (which would be 13 weeks, 2 days today) Nicky Clarke had it at 13 weeks 6 days today so I guess I'm nearning 14 weeks...and the GOOD NEWS is...

I feel great! About a week ago my nausea went, my energy is BACK, I am happy!!!!!!!!! My husband has been such an angel, going to bed early with me (sometimes 7.30pm!! Although he reads and I conk out) and I've been able to stay up til 9pm, do fun stuff, work hard, etc etc I really feel like I have come to life again! My ms was like a permanent unpleasant mantle - not TERRIBLE, but just permanent. And the tiredness! I mean we went to a trout farm at about 8 wks and it was such a terrible experience - just sick and tired the whole time so thank GOD that is past! I think I'm also starting to show. We have already named our baby William LOL although we don't even know if boy or girl I am certain it's a boy and my dh speaks to him every morning.

I feel so happy and blessed. My MAYO CLINIC book says this is the 'golden period' long may it last! I haven't picked up weight except half a kilo BUT that's because I was overweight to start with so apparently that's quite normal, doc is happy.

Yesterday was 6 months til due date according to Dr Clarke's calculations which I prefer as they are sooner LOL! :)

Hang in there lovely ladies, soon you'll get to 12 wks + and it's really a nice feeling. REALLY NICE!

Oh, PS, what has made a BIG difference was getting our scan on DVD and showing our family and friends ESPECIALLY as William was so active and he LOOKS like a little boy (or girl LOL) so that's made it VERY real for us and f&f.

Cath

.. was your first born earlier than due date? ..

Yup, he was born on 34 weeks 6 days. Healthy as can be, weighing 3.02kg. And of course due to my high(er) age (I am 37), the risk for premature birth is also higher.

:cheer: Thanks for making me feel so welcome. I did 2 HPTs yesterday and both positive, but I didn't want to believe it untill I got the bloods result. Of course that was also positive with hCG of 790 or someting (porridge brain already set in...). I am still in shock as I thought I got the timing right. Seems I ovulated early and a very eager sperm survived for at least 2 or 3 days... The bad thing is that having another baby was on the cards, but not just yet. I wanted to find out whether I will be permanently appointed from 1 October at my company first. Hopefully that will still happen (changes are good).

Another bad thing is that I "forgot" or "delayed" to tell DH that I already went off the pill... Had a hard time trying to explain why I never told him. I was waiting for the right moment, which now seems very stupid. He wasn't upset about me being pregnant, though.

Anyhow, my due date is actually 28 April if I use date of conception and not first day of last period as this happened just more than a week after my period started. That's why I was so shocked...
