my 2 cents worth is that a birth is a birth.

whether you have a natural BIRTH or a cesaerian BIRTH, you will still celebrate your baby's BIRTHday on that exact day, regardless how the baby was birthed.

if you are pro natural, fantastic! if you are pro-cesaer, fantastic!

mom's and dad's need to make a list of the pro's and con's of both types of births and then see which list is best for them at this point in their lives. if it really does not suit them to go for natural, for their own personal reasons, then should we not be supportive and happy for them that they do have another option??

and for mom's choosing natural, should we not support them too? it is a big decision either way!

and just for information, you can decide you ARE having a natural birth and something may come up and baby is distressed and you have a cesaer.
you may decide to have a cesaer and suddenly you are in labour before your scheduled date and you dilate so fast, you have a natural birth.

prepare yourself for both situations.

Is it not about the babies! Shouldn't we all be happy and feel blessed because our babies are healthy and thriving???????? - AND NOT WORRY HOW THEY CAME INTO THIS WORLD?????? (Just my 2cents)!

Angie.. surely it's all about the babies?
I am not going to get in to another debate about this, most of you know where I sit on this fence!

But Aribeth is right, it is an operation and when not taking in to account hgh risk pregnancies we are all perfectly designed to birth our babies just as we are to concieve and grow them.

There is evidence that has been collected over the last 30 years that suggests a section can have side effects on infants and children.

I personally don't understand why women spend their entire pregnancy avoiding eating the wrong foods or taking panado in case it passes through the placenta to their baby, then believe that the medication given in labour or during an operation just 'diverts' and won't pass to their baby?

Shooo! Its getting hot in here.

Thought i would just say my 2 cents.

Growing up all i knew was that a child would come naturally and they did. Women even gave birth at home, no hassles. Only heard a few cases where someone had an emergency ceasar and it was like a hge operation

But know things have changed and i only discovered when i was older that some people actually choose to go under the knife  I dont blame them cause im sure they have their own reasons.

So when i find out i was pregnant, i didn`t even have to make a decision as to how this baby will come to earth. Thats god`s decision as much as it was his that i got preggies at the time i did(i didn`t choose the conceiving date either).

So i will let things happen as natural as possible and if it comes to ceasar it must be for a good reason not for fun.

Lol elsa on i don't want a trophy. I almost had a c sec with my son cause i was gatvol of waiting. I don't care which option moms choose. I just don't like c secs. They are becoming the norm in sa and i think its sad. I know how wonderful my births were and i just want all moms to have that feeling. Its truly the most incredible thing i ever felt. No meaning to offend anyone at all. In the end it about baby being safe, i just wish more moms would have more faith in themselves and their own bodies and their own strength.

Kirsten could not agree more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the mom-to-be: I think you should always remember that it is your desicion at the end of the day nobody can make it for you! Get as much info and support from your gynae and make sure he / she knows what your choice, preferences and concerns are!!

Goodluck!
