For emotional reasons, I decided to go for an elective c-section. I believe considering my past traumatic experience it was the best decision for me and baby. I was also up and about really quick and healed quicker than what I expected. I had a very positive birth experience and feel very satisfied with my decision.

However it does sadden me that other people (society, not all moomie moms) won't even consider giving me a medal for my choice of child birth. I guess I just hate that it is often made out as an achievement the way you gave birth. I think that might also be the reason why many mom's who wanted to go natural, but ended with an emergency c-section feel so dissapointed with themselves. It as if there is this pressure from society that a "real woman" does it natural without painmeds, and if you can't do this, you have somehow failed as a "woman".
Before you stone me...I know that all the pro-natural mommies don't mean to be judgemental, and you are not, it is still an issue from society in general.

Gloeiwurumpie, you read my mind and reiterated exactly what I wanted to say!

Heheheheeh Joli, I don't care what people think anymore. Last night was a big eye opener for me. I am done with trying to please people. I am done with putting other people's feelings first... (Not that what happened last night has anything to do with this post, but yeah, think of me what you want, NATURAL was teh best way to do it for ME. I don't expect to be "rewarded" for the way I choose to give birth, though. But hey, judge all you like, I don't care - someone elses judgement won't get me down today. I just think if you can judging me for having a natural (no 6 natural births) it is because of some hidden reasons of your own...? Oh don't mind me, I have pms :-) Yeah, I am having a bitchy day.

I just want the moms to know the true risks of c section. The doc will explain the risks of naturual birth, but rarely the risk of c sections and sometime these risks only manifest later on. I am that 1 in 8000 who had a serious complication. It changes things forever.

If you are aware of all the risks and are informed and still want a c section then I support you.

I hear you Aribeth - and me as pro natural mom always just feel like I should shut up about my primitive, primal, no-drugs births because somewhere, some pro-c-sect mom might take offense... and I'd rather shut up than upset anyone. Makes me think of a joke my gp made when we discussed natural vs c-sect. He asked me, So what is considered a natural birth in Sandton? I said no I don't know. So he said: A c-sect with out any make-up on. I thought it was so funny.

Thanks enchanted pixels. I have a friend who gave birth to overdue twins naturally, each twin was over 3.5kg, and i have a friend who is tiny, about 50kg who gave birth to a 4.7kg baby. I just feel really strongly about it. Docs are too knife happy and moms are too eagar to go under the knife.
