file CEASER VS NATURAL BIRTH

My friend who had a emergency c/s last Jan was reminded at the time that had it been 100yrs back, and they hadnt done anything, both mom & baby would've died. Baby wasnt engaging but waters had broken and it was a long process before they decided on a c/s. It gave me a new appreciation for gynae's, who are saving lives a fair amount of the time when we take it for granted because we are so set on our plans. She'd wanted all natural with water birth, but in the end she got what saved her & her baby's life.

I have no experience of either, but the way I see it at this moment in time (more or less 4-6 weeks before my due date), the miracle of making , carrying and birthing a baby be it vaginally or through abdominal surgery is such a big thing that the method of delivery so to speak is of least relevance to me. Just to have a healthy child in my arms at the end of all of this I will be blessed.

We have to make informed decisions and be happy with our choice of doctor / midwife We can prepare by means of hypnobirthing, or getting abdominal bands. In the end it's up to us to be with a doctor that we know has our best interests in mind and accept that they have trained for births of whatever kind for years and years.
It's good to be aware that things do happen in both scenarios that could cause their own health problems afterwards which is really unfortunate and sad, which no one can relate to but those mom's whove been through it and therefore probably more passionate about facts and figures and we have to respect them for it.
But we cannot live in fear of our choices nor have to defend them. If one or the other was adversely worse, the medical industry would've put a stop to methods already.
I just want to appreciate the gift of life :)

I am so annoyed with myself for posting my last post. I really wanted to refrain from posting such negative details, but I get really irked when people downplay major surgery.

I have spent the last 18 months researching the pro's and cons of c section vs natural (for myself after my complications) and in all honestly unless there are risks for the mother and baby, a natural birth is safer. I understand studies do not always show the true picture, but a pretty good one.

The fact is that maternal and infant death rates are not higher in countries such as the uk where c sections are only offered in emergencies only.

It really is your choice and complications such as mine are rare, but when you are the stat you tend to do everything you can to get the info out there.

Moms who had natural will be for all natural (if all went well) and moms who had c-sections will be for for c-sections (if all went well) but my observation is that those who had both experiences still tend to go with natural.

I do think a c-section is (compared to all go well with c/section vs natural) is much more painful. My sister had 3 natural long hard labours and 1 emergency - really emergency - there was no time for even an epidural, they had to put her out totally and when her baby was born there was no heartbeat - he was too big too be delivered vaginally so went into distress (his head was 39cm and couldn't even be measured on the scan, but she was adamant that she would birth naturally). Anyways, she's obviously grateful for the c-section and that her child is fine, but even she says, that the c-section was much worst than the natural births.

I'm petrified of needles, so that's why I am petrified of a c-sections, but I'm open to both. You never know what's going to happen. I had my birth plans written for both births.

Sadly that can also happen with Natural. My cousin refused a c-section, refused induction even at 42 weeks. She gave birth to a 5.5kg baby, torn horrifically and started hemorrhageing. She also lost her uterus.

Her mother had 4 c-sections and 4 beautiful children. (and this is back in the 70s and 80's) I think each case should be looked at individually and not at a whole.

Okay I had an emegency c sec but it was no
Different to a regular one. Baby was in severe danger
Not me. My uterus did not contract at all. It
Could have happened regardless but the extra blood loss
From the c section (about double to that of a natiural
Birth) did not help me. I lay there bleeding to
Death after a c section and lost my uterus.

We tend to think about complications as immediate
But consider that a c section increases future
Complication regarding fertility and future
Pregnancies.

I got very very very X1000 tired whilst in labour,(labour started 10pm though) I did not do anything (and I had my baby at home) I just breathed (alot!)
Dont worry too much about pushing, this is the short part and your baby will come regardless.
It's worth it.

:)

If your considering this, ask Nefertiti to help you prepare.
