I loved my NVD with no drugs. I had myself, my hubby, doula and midwife in the room and wasnt subjected to any invasive proceedures. I dont have a scar, and after I had delivered the placenta I got up and went for a shower on my own. I did tear a bit, so I was tender down below for a bit, but this was not excrutiating, and nothing that a few painkillers couldnt fix. I also took a stool softener afterwards to make it easy to go to the loo (when you feel bruised down below its easy to hold it in and become constipated)
There is no way I would choose to have a section, its an option only when medically neccesary (BTW my doc had told me that I needed to have a c -sec because my baby was too big, but I chose to challenge him and birthed a 3.9kg baby after an 8 hour labour with no complications. My tummy was gone within 2 weeks, but unfortunately I did put on a bit more weight than I should have so am still sitting with about 4kgs to shed before I'm back at prepreg weight.

I would never choose an operation when it wasnt needed - personally I think you need to be something of a masochist to choose someone to cut you open, no matter how much more convenient it is:)

Sorry to hear your c-sec birthing experience was so horrible.

I do think one's attitude plays a huge part in your birthing experience. Everything you described is kind of how a c-sec is done (minor areas could have been made a bit more comfortable if one asks for it), however you experienced it as terribly traumatic because you were forced to go through with it.
If one chooses (like me) to have a c-sec, all the procedures you described can be quite tollerable if you are possitive about the whole thing. If I was forced to have a natural labour, chances would be that I would describe the whole procedure equally as traumatic as you have described, because I didn't want a natural birth.

So, I think it all depends as to what you want and expect out of the whole birthing experience as well.

regarding the wind, they say now, and it worked for me, that if you chew gum as soon as you can it really takes that the wind away and helps your tummy get back to regualar.

They no longer cut the muscle they separate and move it.

Nelira I can relate to you not being able to reconcile the surgery with the birth. I also couldn't wrap my mind around Dylan being mine. Like I was just handed a baby. No feeling or anything, but again I wanted natural so I would obviously be sad about the c section.

Interesting trivia...

How many ladies actually know that they never
cut through the stomach muscles when doing an elective c-section? According to my dr (and wikipedia) they "move" (obviously stretch a bit) the muscles out of the way. Obviously they do cut your skin layers and womb, but not the tummy muscles.

ok so what is there left to say except due to life/death my sus also had natural 1st then forced c-sec and wow did she cry when i told her i must have one too she said dont worry it will be fine we will talk after

so after i phoned her and said wtf how bad was it and she said thats why she cried as it was to her the most embarrasing and horrific thing she had to endure but didnt want to scare me

so ja if its life or death and u have no option just know what to expect and it wont be so horrific but if its not DONT PLEASE DONT think its nicer/easier etc than natural its major operation and u putting your life in anothers hands - so 3x higher fatality for u and baby under c-sec compared to natural

anyhoe i will admit my experience was intensified due to me not wanting it but u cant really intensify cut off-muscles, open scars, washed by others, 6 wks recovery, thats reality and as a last thing sneezing/coughing become the most painfull thing in the worls for a wk LOL
