Hi

My c-sec experience was exactly like 1st timer..
It wasn't bad at all and really not sore..just stiff at some days. Infact I was so busy after my c-sec that I went to Loftus to watch rugby 6days after my c-sec.

I think it depends on each individual

I don't want to cause a fight but my Caesar was not bad at all.

Cathetar was put in after the spinal
I wasn't pinned down
dress pulled below boobs and vagina to knees covered
5 ppl in the room + dh and only 3 below my head
I had a cd I'd chosen playing
my gynae told me exactly what she was doing all the time and prepped me for baby coming out
suppository given next 3 mornings which I did myself
no injections in tummy
1 bed bath which to be honest wasn't bad and they are very quick (the movement is a bit painful tho)
day 2 I was walking around, sitting and laughing no problems.

Hope -I think it defintely depends on your expectations, your body, pain threshold, fitness etcetc. Some people have great experiences some not. I wrote up my thoughts each day after the Caesar which I'll post later. They were "live" so unskewrd by mommy amnesia!

This will always stay such a difficult topic. i had natural after doctors told me i was to small and its a huge baby (just to scare me) my baby was born on valentines day and i could have chose it different.

Ive have read that somewhere the ladies said that they are being felt guilty or left out if they didnt have natural... well if you had a selective c-sec then i supose you feel guitly without us making you feel that way, if you had a emergancy c-sec like julz.. well she is fighting to help all of the pro c-sec mommies see what they are foing to themselves.

I am pro natural and i wear my pre pregnacy clothes and weigh exactly the same and have a nice tummy, and that makes me proud of myself and i have respect for myself for having a 14 hour labour and i have made it!!!!

But nobody is the same and inportant things in my life is not important to the next person thats why they are ok with major surgery.

but i would just want to ask if you have doubts about a c-sec why dont you try trial labour if you in the labour and cant do it ask for a c-sec but if you ask for a c-sec you cant go back. and then you know you have tried.

this is just my opinion!

Julz,
you said it now just much better than me, but I was trying to say what you are saying now. Ditto.

We must remember that our experience is different to what other experience. Emsmom had a wonderful c section as she chose it for her birth option. EP you have had amazing natural births because you chose to have them.

Neiria didn't choose to have a c section and nor did I and this is where the trauma comes into play. Her experience was real and scary and she has a right to feel the way she does about it.

The fact is that regardless of the birth, you can decide for yourself to a point as to what intervention takes place. With natural you do not need internals all the time, or an enema or to be washed or cut. With a c section you do not need to have the catheter placed before the spinal or to have your arms secured etc. This is where informed choice comes into play. Know what to expect, but Nelria has a point. The doctors do not explain surgical procedures correctly.

My gen. surgeon is amazing when it comes to surgery. He shows me a clip, then gives me a leaflet explaining everything. Even before an emergency surgery he still gave me all the facts so that I could give INFORMED consent.

Joli - my dad has to wipe my moms bum during labour... so these things do and can happen during labour. (true act of love on my dads part I much say :) )

They might not happen with every natural, but they can and do happen,
Just like the bad listed c-section things do not happen with every c-section. They certainly did not happen to me. I was covered at my privated, the cathater was inserted after my epi so I felt nothing. my arms were not flat - I could hold my LO right after her birth, I was excited and loved seeing and hearing her.
Yes I was cleaned down there afterwards - only once I think. It was ok, I was focused on my LO not on someone seeing my privates. (which hello by the end of your pregnancy you should be used to by now...)

So good and bad happen with both. Don't let your bad experiance decide what other women should or shouldn't do.

I am also not looking to fight, Emsmom, just trying to correct the wrong facts when you say she WOULD have all that stuff done. It is NOT doen everytime someone has a natural birth. It IS done, jsut not all the time, every time. Just when nessicary.
