file CEASER VS NATURAL BIRTH

Aspoestertjie:

I think that my problem is that society often condones a woman who isn't able to give birth naturally without painmeds. I think some people are excelent athletes, other great accountants and other well great "child-birthers" if there is such a word, sorry I am so lekker afrikaans). We all have different talents/skills/abilities. My problem is that society makes a woman feel as if she has failed to be a good mother/woman if she couldn't do the natural without painmeds route.

However I do think it is rotten that dr's bulldoze women in thinking they "need" a c-sec so that it fits their schedule.

Julz I thought you were joking when you said this topic had come up again ;-)

Hope there is going to be pain with childbirth no matter which way you do it. Be it c-section with an epidural - you'll feel the pain after, natural with no meds - you'll feel it during.

Probably (I'm guessing because I wound up with a emergency c-section) the least painful way is natural with an epidural or other pain meds. I had an epidural and the most painful thing was having it put in. Didn't feel any contractions. But I'm sure that you will still have some pain after birth.

LG born at Milnerton MC on the 09/12/2009 by emergency c-section.

Didn't we do this one already?? ;)

I enjoyed my c-section personally, but each to their own. Only advice is not to let others guilt or pressure you into something you personally dont want...

Gloeiwurmpie, if you had 6 c-sec, I would also give you a medal.

I had a really REALLY painful natural birth and as such, any person doing it without meds must be extremely special

Natural or c-sec, I think it differs so such from person to person that it is impossible to choose based on other people's experiences. But it does help to read about it.

I am already less scared of c-sec just because a bunch of the ladies here says it wasn't that painful.

For emotional reasons, I decided to go for an elective c-section. I believe considering my past traumatic experience it was the best decision for me and baby. I was also up and about really quick and healed quicker than what I expected. I had a very positive birth experience and feel very satisfied with my decision.

However it does sadden me that other people (society, not all moomie moms) won't even consider giving me a medal for my choice of child birth. I guess I just hate that it is often made out as an achievement the way you gave birth. I think that might also be the reason why many mom's who wanted to go natural, but ended with an emergency c-section feel so dissapointed with themselves. It as if there is this pressure from society that a "real woman" does it natural without painmeds, and if you can't do this, you have somehow failed as a "woman".
Before you stone me...I know that all the pro-natural mommies don't mean to be judgemental, and you are not, it is still an issue from society in general.

No way, I am not special or anything, I just have VERY firm beliefs. And I hate hospitals, and seeing that you stay at least 3 days when you have a ceaser, I just could not face a 3 day hospital stay. Actually, I think a ceaser is much scarier than a normla birth. Most of you know that even when I had appendix trouble last month I preffered risking it and taking anti biotics before booking an operation to have it removed because I am scared of being in hospital, anesthesia and operations. Hahaah I am NOT brave.

I would have much more respect if dr's and patients just came straight out and said they wanted a c-sec!

Why beat around the bush? I am no dr, but I am really not that doff to fall for the excuses.

If I decide to get a c-sec for my 2nd (which I still may as natural can be quite sore) I will be proud of my decision and tell it to the world. But no bullshitting
