Haha Julz you are so right. The paed is like a REALLY expensive photographer.

You summed it up so nicely there regarding the judgements. So true. And I still say that judgement is normal and natural and yes it's annoying and it sucks when it's happening to you. I was judged for my daughter's hair being in her eyes. I was told she would go squint (seriously). But we all do it. So we just have to live with it and do what is best for our baby and ourselves.

LG born at Milnerton MC on the 09/12/2009 by emergency c-section.

Hi Hope 33

Just wanted to reply to your questions:

I had a natural birth with an epidural. I was induced on the evening of the 2nd of July and my LG was born the next evening (3rd of July). I was in labor for about 12 hours and it was tiring and sore but not unmanageable. I eventually had an epidural which I regret as it didnt help completely as my baby had been lieing on a nerve which continued to be sore.

The pushing part (which you mentioned you might battle with :) ) at the end was not long and she was out within 3 hard pushes. I was up within 2 hours of her birth which was nice as I hated the catheter they put in because of the epidural.

The only thing I really hated about the natural birth was the internals to check how far I was dilated otherwise the contractions werent unmanageable.

I had a bit of pain afterwards as I had a episiotomy and the stitches were uncomfortable for a few days.

I would definitely go in more prepared for my 2nd birth and look into hypnobirthing etc. I didnt do much research before so it is really good that you are asking questions now :)

Hope this helps you :) All the best with your pregnancy and birth.

Regarding the pead at c-section, personally I think that IS a money making thing. We did not need a pead at our birth, the nurses and widwifes are perfectly able to look after my baby. I didn't even see the pead to be honest, just paid a fortune for him...

Julz that about sums it up! You will be judged as what you do as a mother... Everybody has a difference of opinion on how to raise their baby or how to have their baby.

So each mom must make a decision on what is best for her circumstances and take the advice given with a pinch of salt :)

One thing that has always baffled me though. If a c section is so safe for the baby why is a paed required at delivery when one is not at a natural delivery.

So here is the deal mommy to be.

The judgement never ends. It won't just be the birth. It will be breastfeeding, cirucumcision (best to just have a girl, but then it's ear piercing), walking rings, bumbo seats, work or stay home, co sleeping or not, sleep training, feeding at 4 or 6 months etc. It never ends. Ever.

So mommy to be, make an informed choice based upon the great research available and based on what works for your baby and yourself and then hold your head up high and say I am proud of the mommy I am and the choices I have made.
