file Anyone else trying for a 2014 baby?

Flowergirl - Yip, also gulped when he said 72K, not sure if it is for one try only, it doesn't seem to matter as it is way out our league. Ah, man, how frustrating that AF doesn't want to come!!! Would love to hear what your Dr says. Hope you and your husband feels better soon.

I think it is wonderful that couples choose to adopt. It is absolutely heart breaking to hear about abandoned babies, imagine just some of those babies can find a loving home.

Carmen - Thanks for explaining the clomid, you know so much about all of this!! He didn't mention for how long I can use it, he only said that I can only take it for a limited time only. Guess we will monitor it as we go along. Those follies sound good!

Nicolette - Hi!! Good to hear from you again. Yes, not sure if it was for one try only. He is exceptionally well priced with all his other fees compared to other dr's, so, maybe it wasn't for one cycle...? Thanks for giving an indication of what IVF goes for, sure other moomies might be interested to know.

Baby dust all!!! *******

Hi GW - I have been so busy lately that I really haven't been keeping up with all your conversations. But I spotted your message now in my mailbox. I was at a FS at the beginning of April - and from what I was told R72 000 is VERY expensive. I was told that even the best/most effective form of IVF (it's called ICSI - intrcytoplasmic sperm injection) is around R35 000. I was at the Aevitas Fertility Clinic at Vincent Palloti. He mentioned that they are very budget conscious - and they probably also manage to keep their prices down because they are so busy. I could not believe how many couples were in that waiting room. I know it is still expensive - but at least a little easier to swallow than R72 000.

Hi GW

I also ovulate on my own but the FS prescribed meds for ovulation.
I think they use it to time the cycle, to ensure follicles.
6 months of fertomid is long, usually there's a break after 2 or 3 cycles.

So sorry that the nice follie is one the wrong side.
The cost of IVF is crazy!! I always thought it would be about R40K.

Well at least you know what's happening in this cycle. hope next cycle it's on the right side.

I'm cd 12 today, went for LH from Friday, results all low, which is good. Did a test this morning as well. awaiting the result. If no surge, then I have to inject the trigger shot (Ovitrelle) tonight at 10pm and we'll do AI on Wednesday. Probably between 12 and 2pm. Lining still on the thin side, but FS isn't concerned.
scan showed follie on LHS 17mm- follie on RHS 22mm.

sticky baby dust everyone!

So frustrating GW!! I would like to hear what he says about what the fertomid would do in the case where you already do ovulate. Sorry about the dud cycle :(

Wowzer R72K!!!

I am also feeling very despondent. CD39 today and still no damn AF  not sure what the hell is going on. I just called my doctor now, spoke to her receptionist so waiting on her to call me back. Ive taken quite a bit of time off work lately, so not sure what I will do if she asks me to come in..............

Had a terrible weekend - DH and my LG both ill!!!! Got very little sleep, have a terrible headache today and overall, just not a happy chappy :(

My mind started drifting towards adoption as an option. I know its extremely early days, but toying with the idea. On my own for now, not yet such a strong possibility that i would consider it to justify a discussion with dh.......

But yea - thats where I am at.

Hi all!!

Carmen - any news?

Ok, just got back from die FS.

I am on CD11 today and went for a scan. We saw a 16 mm follicle on the left side (wrong side, no tube) and nothing on the right hand side.

Asked the doctor about options forward. He said the textbook treatment for my situation (only one fallopian tube) is quite aggressive and he isn't comfortable with the treatment typically suggested as it has serious side-effects and expensive and a 30 times higher rate for twins or triplets. He said all that we can try is Clomid combined with Fertivor (thins cevical mucus as far as I understand) and then I have to come in on the next CD11 for a scan. If we see a follicle on the right side with a tube he can give me a Ovidrell (spelling?) triggershot when the follicle is the right size to release the egg. The other option he mentioned is IVF and mentioned the cost of R72 000.

He gave me a 6 month script for the clomid (fertomid), not sure if he thinks it is safe to take for cycles, I guess he will monitor the situation. He did mention that should I ovulate on the wrong side, the clomid is basically wasted, but we have no way of knowing by CD5 (when you start taking it) whether if it will be on the right side or not.

I am a bit baffled about the clomid. I read on the internet that all it does is is to help you ovulate and that is all. But it seems that I do ovulate on my own, what will the clomid do then? (Should have asked this when I was at the dr....)
Think I will phone again and just ask to make sure.

Anyway, feeling a bit down and wondering if I was ovulating the past few months on the wrong side...

On the bright side at least I know that this month is a dud and that I shouldn't even have any hopes and next cycle we start fresh.

Baby dust to all. :)

I am wrong or are there a couple of ladies ovulating soon?
